Here's some pictures of the downtown of Ocean Side, my best city. (population in the 4km x 4km square: 699,708. Est. pop in entire city: 800,000. Total metro pop (est): 1,200,000)

Downtown Ocean Side from the east.

Downtown from another angle.

And from another angle.

oceansidefeb175911172210358ef.jpg

Another angle. The country club is in the way of expansion, but when I tore it down, the sims started complaining. So it'll have to be built around.

oceansidefeb175911172211060bn.jpg

Some skyscrapers branched off from downtown, and development in this area is expected to increase more rapidly than development in the downtown area.

oceansidefeb175911172206722ax.jpg

And from another angle.

oceansidefeb175911172211612yn.jpg

The Herman B. Haupt Memorial Bridge, which connects Capital City Island with the mainland, and downtown. About 6,000 people take it to work.

oceansidefeb175911172215568xk.jpg

Royal Square. This is where rallies are held, and where the Head of State gives speaches.

These are pics I took yesterday. Next time I play this city, I'll grab a night shot.

How do you change the angle? How do you get a popukation so high? seems to me most maps are way too small...

Well, this is my downtown, residential part - not the CBD.

cryvt.png

But I have a question. It maybe is a dumb question, or a question which has been asked frequently, but how do I get such high office towers in my CBD? (Image above isn't my CBD, but in my CBD I have some higher buildings, but not as high as on the first page, for example.) My city counts now about 160,000 people, is that enough?

@westy177: Nice!

@Tahr: You have to get very large cities before you see giant high-rises. I usually don't begin to see taller buildings until at least 400,000-500,000 in my cities.

wwetom1, that's an awesome shot! Do I see a lot of custom lotting and a Maxis texture replacement there? Anyway, good building choice. I also like how not everything is pure eye candy and bling - but that makes it all the more pleasant to look at for my taste. :)

My favorite suburban office district I've created so far. Its the second largest office district behind my core city. The suburb has largest collection of financial institutions, has a large convention center surrounded my many hotel chains, and features a country club plaza that also features high end retail like Louis Vuitton, Versace, and Hermes.

I like seeing other people's downtowns! haha Great job everyone!

This isn't quite my downtown... But it was supposed to be! To the left of the photo is the downtown, but it used to be the airport. I figured it would be better to build on empty land than build over expensive land (in theory). So the initial downtown space turned into this midtown which is just kind of like a jumble of infrastructure... possibly on of my accidental most realistic areas that I've made haha

We, stardust, are the oddest observers of self (a.k.a. the universe).

I'm just a group of atoms typing this.

What do I know?

@kellydale2003

I think alot of the realism comes from how well you adapted to the terrain using multi-level height's and hills, etc. That's what I actually strive for each time I begin and so often end up just flattening things all out and taking away any chance of having alot of character. Looks great, all those little details!

Yes you do! I've relotted most everything.

I've started a new city. I'm just going for a general European (not too dense) city, but are there any particular cities it looks like?

If I may ask, where does the center park come from? Is that a bat, or clever use of park tiles?

I believe it came from a university pack; it's a college quadrangle (it's one lot).

It's really funny because I re-modded and re-lotted all of KS_JPN's superb skyscrapers for personal use, too - and my Worldwide Plaza lot looks quite a bit like yours. :D

Something that I am currently working on. Barely finished.

And the city's name is Twilight Bay.

The downtown(north to the right)

blackportnov29321353928.jpg

....connects to this satellite downtown to the north of the aforementioned downtown

newcityjun7151358170204.jpg

To put it in context, both pictures are from my own CJ and is connected by a commercial strip following the path of the avenue. One is more 'touristy' while the other is on the 'office' side of things. City population is 56.500 spread over 2 tiles

*Note: Top pic shows old photo, 2 new R$$$ condos have been built to the north of the park(where 2 mansions are side by side) and 2 of the tenement buildings(the ones that are not grey) have been replaced by R$$ condos.

Here is some development in downtown Ellis around the intersection of King St. and Central Ave.

Love this downtown, what are the diagonal buildings in the center of the image? (with the blue/green glass windows).
