What would you need to buy this game?

Like many people here, I'm upset by how disappointing SCS seems to be, because I was honestly hopeful that it would be a fun game.  The screenshots I see still look really cool to me, and I'd really like to enjoy this game, but I simply will not buy it until they add in a few features that I consider critical.  I suspect I'm not alone in this, so what features would you need to see in a patch or expansion pack to buy this game?

For me, I'd need more transit options (at least rails and highways).  If I think of it as a sandbox city designing program, instead of an actual game, I could have fun with it (much like I play The Sims 2 sometimes just because I like building houses, even though the game itself is horribly boring), but not without proper transit.  If they patch this into the game, or release a gold edition that includes a transit expansion pack at the current price, I will buy it.

I have a feeling this thread will head south and go negative fast... I'll start, I guess.

They need to add a lot of stuff... I mean a LOT of stuff in order for me to buy SCS, but this game wasn't intended for me so life goes on.

Now, the question comes to mind; what is worth less? Those quintillions of useless AOL discs sent out via mail, or an SCS disc?

SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

For me to like the game , EA would need to-

  1. Hand over to Maxis
  2. Start from the ground up
  3. Tell us in blogs what their up to
  4. Show us early development screenshots
  5. Develop it for 3 years while continuously listen to the fans
  6. Implement everything from SC4
  7. Implement many interesting Fan Ideas
  8. After 2 years, show us screenshots of a fully, unbelievably realistic environment
  9. Never NEVER sell the game out to a Multi-National
  10. Assue us its harder than ever but still massively enjoyable, even to a new SC player.
  11. Release the game without a whimper of over-marketing
  12. Sell the game with a complimentary SCS disk that you can smash with a sledgehammer
  13. I go home and don't get off the game for the rest of my life its THAT awesome...
  14. They release the BAT tools a week later

Its a long shot, but worth it.

Money 3.gif

Even then, nope would not buy it. Clearly the fact that buildings can be rotated 45 degrees, but roads can't; to me this of itself is a clear indication of not caring about the released product. So no, won't be buying it regardless of what they decide to do with it.

For those who haven't yet purchased it, but might if they add something.quote>

If they add a free copy of SC5 to it & all that it would encompass, then yeah I'll buy it 3.gif17.gif

if they add a copy "cities unlimited" or at least a beta of it...9.gif

now thats impossible right? yep, me buying the game would be impossible...me keeping a copy of the game (even for free) would still be impossible

HOW CAN YOU LIKE A GAME WHEN OBVIOUSLY THOSE WHO WERE BEHIND IT CLEARLY HAVE NO LOVE FOR IT?

I'm going to the store right now and buy an extra copy in your name. I'll be sure to let EA know that "you" bought one. 4.gif

It appears you're correct, I was hoping there were enough people here like me who see the potential for a fun game that we could have some constructive conversation.  Please feel free to lock this thread if it keeps up like this.

To add more constructive conversation, I'd also be happy if they added some interaction with The Sims 2.  I was actually surprised not to see it in the first place, since it seems like such an obvious companion to the everything else in the direction they took the game.  Even something as simple as a one-way import of your neighborhood, with sims and houses intact, would be really neat.

What would I need to buy this game? First off they have to delete all the existing code they have for this game, then rewrite it all from scratch... this time while actually listening to SimCity fans

Well, first of all I wouldn't buy it at all now because my computer won't run it; my video card isn't good enough. So first I'd have to buy myself a better video card.

If the current game, as it is right now, were about $10 or $15 US, I might go ahead and buy it. It doesn't look like a horrible game, but it doesn't seem to have any depth. I can imagine myself playing it for a few days, but after awhile I would get tired of it and then it would sit on my shelf and never be played again. It looks like an entertaining game, but not one with enough depth and replayability to spend $50 (plus tax/shipping) on.

To pay $50, so many things about the game would have to be changed that it would hardly be the same game any more. One of the worst things has to be the lack of transit options. I know that a lot of people have complained about this, but I feel that they have a point. Adding more transit adds a lot of variety to a city, and it just really needs more. The social energies are an interesting concept, but in order to add the social energies, so many other things have been sacrificed that I don't feel the game is worth it. I've read that the game is "too easy" many times, which means I probably wouldn't like it. Zoning was one of the great things about the previous games. They developed depending on how you played the game, and since in this game you just plop down everything where you want it? Sure, you can get cities that look great, but I don't have the patience for that.

SCS, as it is right now, just doesn't seem like my type of game, and it would need a lot of changes before I'd be willing to pay $50+ for it.

Oh, and I forgot terraforming.  That was one of the things I really loved about SC4.  And the disasters are limited, which is also disappointing.

Yes, thank you for the constructive post, FieryUnicorn! I have to say, I agree with you completely. Everything I see about this game screams "budget title" to me. I would even go so far as to say I'd pay $30 for the game (although it sounds like I'd probably still be disappointed), and if I found it for $10-20 in the budget bin, it sounds like I'd be pretty happy with the purchase. As it stands now, they're charging $50 for a glorified building block sim, and that just doesn't seem right.

Things That SHOULD Be In This Games

    1. Add More Mass Traisnt (Different Trasnportions).

    2. Put The Zones Back.

    3. Make it Look Relistic. ( I Mean Heavily).

    4. Give It Back To Maxis!!!!!!!!

    5. More U-Drive It Missions

I do think this is a fun game, but certainly should not have "SimCity" in the title. I have been an avid player of the series since the very beginning, and while I do like improvement and new directions, this game goes past new directions to the ponit of creating an entirely different franchise. I like the whole idea of the "Society Simulator," After playing with this game for a few hours, I have been having fun with molding my people. But as stated, this is not a SimCity title- not at ALL. So I think they should make this the beginning of a new franchise, SimSociety, and come back with a REAL SimCity title.

On another note, I simply could not see paying $50 for this title. I could see $20-$30, $30 if it came with more content. Though I will keep playing

I think SimCity Societies is a perfect name for it. It has a feel of SimCity to me. It's made by a different developer but I think the did a decent job. Plenty of room for improvements, but that's how it usually goes. If you think of a city they really aren't as big as in SimCity 4. Highways are usually handled federally, some schooling, policing etc. Subways and more traffic options sure would be nice, but I find making pretty cities is fun in this version. If people got over getting let down about it not being SimCity 5 like I did and have fun they might make the next version have all our desired additions.

What we really need is SimNation.

Did anyone ever play SimTown? it kind of reminds me of that (I was VERY into the sim games, I have almost all of them)

In SimTown, you plopped all of the buildings, and had to keep the sims happy. Now, this game has a broader concept, but they are very similar. And don't get me wrong, I like this game, I think it's fun.

EA might have put in "some" efforts into developing the game, but whatever it is, it does not worth 59.90 for the game. It says 7+ for the game on the cover, but to me, it is a 3+ for the game. I feel like an idiot playing the game. I have uninstalled the game after 30 minutes and put the game to RIP...sigh...

For less than 10 Euro I might buy it just to see if my bad opinion resp.my prejudices about it are right or wrong.

(AFAIK the current price for SC4 DeLuxe is 12 Euros)

Right now it offers way too less to me for a full price game.

I solved all my problems with SCS. I took a print out of the "Exception dll error", a url to SCS site, the url to secure rom, my register tape and the opened game to WalMart. They tried to tell me it was a law that they could not give a refund. I told them they were confusing an agreement betweeen the seller of the game and the manufacturer of the game. An agreement is not a law. After twenty minutes of convincing a clerk and a manager that the game was defective and asking for the name of the clerk, the manager, an address and phone number to the CEO and President of Wal-mart and the threat of a law suit for not backing up defective merchandise I was given a refund. Would I buy it again--not even out of the bargin bin. Maybe if they recalled it and worked on it until it worked for everyone---nah, not even then. I already have a copy of city life sitting on my shelf gathering dust because it will not load past 98 percent, so it is unplayable. I was not going to be suckered again. If EA was planning on a hot new francise, boy, they are off to a bad start.
