SimCity 4 was fun, but I always wanted to play it in 3D. Seems like this gives me the chance" If I was 10-15 years younger that could easily have been me. Back then I didn't spend much time reading on games to be released, I was too busy with the games that had been released. I would probably have bought it the first day I saw it in stores, then after a few hours put it on the shelf to never play it again

I imagine that a lot of SimCity fans has bought this game expecting SimCity 5

Is it that bad? IMHO yes, it is This one is pretty much the opposite of what I want to see in a SimCity game - I don't like cartoony graphics, I want to be able to make realistic looking cities - I don't like the special actions your buildings can do. Why is it my job to tell the religious people when it's time to "talk to the people" or whatever? I couldn't care less about that. There's at least one buildings special ability that increases the income of a certain building, you just have to use that ability once per 24 hours for it to work... like it's not easy enough to get money already? - I don't like the simple economy, it's pretty much impossible to lose money - I don't like the simple transit, I want to be able to make railroads, highways, avenenues, roads, subways, one way streets, etc - I don't like that roads can't be in an angle - I don't like the lack of RCI. Need jobs? Just plant a workplace! Need workers? Just plant some resident houses - I don't like the lack of zoning. Plopping down every building one by one feels like work. Why do I need to decide where to build an ice cream shop or movie theater? - I don't like the lack of growth. In SC4 it was always fun to see the first skysraper getting built, then later the second skyscraper got built which was even taller and so on. The random growth is what makes it fun The only "positive" side is that you can make different kinds of cities, but it's not something I personally see as positive in this case, as the different kinds of cities are IMHO uninteresting. I want to be able to make New York, Paris or Rome, not a clown city or big brother city

What would I need to buy this game? First off they have to delete all the existing code they have for this game, then rewrite it all from scratch... this time while actually listening to SimCity fans
-
The societies part of SC:S is the only interesting part about the game. I like both SimCity and The Sims, but as far as I can tell SC:S fails to incorporate the features that makes those games great Seems like most of SC:S are also TM fans... coincidence?
-
Pros - Not sure Cons: - Why is it called SimCity when it has nothing to do with SimCity? What if someone makes a Doom 4 that takes place on earth in 2015 where you have to fight zombies? Same thing IMHO - It's 3D... I prefer detailed graphics over 3D - Transit, where did that go? The only thing we've seen are two-laned roads - No zoning - Cartoonish graphics Question marks: - The different cultures might make it interesting, but could also turn out to be a disaster (it does remind me a bit of the different cultures in City Life, which is NOT good) . The mixing of cultures sounds interesting - Would be more interesting if it was possible to make one city look like New York and another one like Paris, instead of having the choices between an industrious city and candy land or whatever - Hopefully modding can save this game, but AFAIK we don't know exactly what is possible and what is not
-
If the 3D graphic can be just as detailed and good as SimCity 4, then yes I would want it to be 3D, but when the graphics a of low detail and overall much worse looking than most other games, then no. I would love to see a game like SimCity 4 in 3D, but I guess we'll have to wait till 2012 before that'll be possible
-
The reason I hate SC:S is not because you wont get more than 10,000 sims in the city, but because of all the other missing features and stupid candy graphics IMHO it could be interesting to have a small town, but only if it's done more realistic, which SC:S is not Though having less than 10,000 sims is one more reason why it shouldn't be called SimCity. SimSocieties or SimTown 2 would be better names

They want to see how well it would be if Simcity went in a new direction, and how different things might work out. I do agree though that this game is probably just a filler and a SC5 will come out someday.quote> But what if SC:S ends up selling lots of copies, then we might never see SimCity 5

EA CEO calls video games 'boring,' complicated

Originally posted by: baertooth Have you seen this? I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw it. But alas, it's not a city simulator. This is how I was hoping Simcity 5 would be. http://creative-patterns.com/spip.php?rubrique27?=en&Game=1 quote> I saw this a few days ago, it does look great. This is how I expected graphics in SimCity 5 to be like But what's up with the "video" section? It's just one image file with a few smaller images inside

What I would have done: Make different difficulty levels that has a huge effect on how the game is played. On easy you don't have to worry much about pollution , long community time (sims don't mind traveling longer distances), water pipes, power lines, etc. While on the most difficult setting, it will be very hard to get sims to live close to even the slightest pollution (so watch out for air pollution from cars), sims don't want to spend more than 30 minutes to get to/from work, etc And then there of course should be a custom setting This way everybody gets what they want. Those who's never tried SimCity before will be able to (on very easy) to get a huge metropolis within an hour, while SimCity veterans (on very hard) can have a hard time getting the same thing after days of play Those who hates having to build water pipes doesn't have to, while those who likes the extra strategy can still use it

Originally posted by: John-SJ I voted don't care. EA and TM have taken SimCity in a different direction with Societies. I like the currnet zoning system, but I am more than willing to see how this new direction pans out. So, I will wait and see.quote> Haven't you played City Life? There you can see how annoying and ugly it is without zoning

With 3% who either doesn't care or are happy to see it gone, it sounds like everybody agrees on this subject
