Apple recently announced an entirely new iPod lineup, with everything but the shuffle getting a major overhaul.

The new lineup includes the shuffle, a new, smaller nano with a much larger screen, the new "iPod Classic" which seems to replace the iPod Video, and the all new "iPod Touch" which features a large, iPhone style touch screen, built in WiFi, internet support, a built in music store, and an iPhone style interface. It comes in 8gb and 16gb versions, priced at $300 and $400 respectively.

Apple also announced that it will be dropping its 4gb iPhones, and reducing the price of its 8gb iPhones to $400.

More info at Apple.

all the new ones look alright, but the new nana looks just plain odd and ugly... too short and stubby.

But really, $400 is getting a bit too much...  what ever happened to help the poor?

honestly, I think the new nano looks like it's fat 3.gif

It needs more colours....there's just not enough colours.

Though I do like how some of the colours look on the shuffle, and I do sorta like the all metal design on the iPod classic, since the current design shows smears and fingerprints all too well...though with the shuffle's new colours...they seem to be more towards women over general men when it comes to colours.

As for the new iPod Touch, I want that! It has all the features of the iPhone I want, and no excess or the need to get a contract with AT&T, and the 8GB iPod Touch costs $100 less then a 8GB iPhone and it doesn't need a contract(already said that. :S).

I know people are going to dislike them for the next couple of weeks, but there were a few negative reactions when the second gen shuffle and nano came out, so I know over time, people will like them...

Heh heh...I found out about this on Sunday when I walked into Best Buy looking for an iPod and just happened to run into someone who knew that these new ones were coming out.

I was hoping the Touch would have more memory. Nice looking, but kinda useless to me because I have more than 8 Gigs of music and more than 16 Gigs of everything put together. Plus, that price is kind of high. So yeah, I think I'll just stick with the iPod Classic (which now comes in 80 GB at the same price as the old 30 GB).

I love the look of it, I have a prada phone and love touch screen gadgets, but $299 for 8g and $399 for 16g, I'll just stay with my 30g 4th generation iPod for the minute thanks.

IMO, the prices aren't horrible, I remember paying in the ballpark of $300 for my 4gb Nano a year and a half ago or so.

It's horrible and I'm very, very disappointed. I have an iPod Mini and I love it. I was considering buying a new one and after seeing these sickening, pastel-colored things, I'm just going to put a new battery in my old one.

Besides, I don't need video or wireless or anything else like that. My Mini is just fine. And it's a pretty color too. Did I mention that I hate pastels?

On the other hand, the iPod Touch is really cool. But again, it's too much iPod for me, so I won't be spending money on it.

I'm not usually one to get crazy about technology, but the simple idea of listening to your music when you want, where you want was just to good to pass up. But that's really all I need. Besides itunes and the ipod, I don't really use any other apple products; so no, I'm not an apple fanatic.

In a related story, when I bought my 2gb ipod nano, I got two stickers with the apple logo. I stuck one on my calculator and funnily called it the "icalculator". But that's not the joke. Just about everyone, even my friends, thought I had an iphone. Good times, good times...lol

I would love an iPod Touch. Hopefully I can save enough to buy one. 3.gif The Classic iPods have just too much space for it to be worthwhile for me.. I don't have 40 000 songs to put on my iPod..

But the Nano's.. why couldn't they have just kept the nano's like the first gen. ones, instead of destroying the design so it can play videos? IMO, those were the best iPods they'd ever made, the first gen. Nano. Ah well.

A 16gb iPod will hold 15gbs of music 3.gif Thats because the software takes up 150mg or so I believe, and factor in that you never actually get as much memory as is labeled.

The average song is about 4mb's, but of course if you have a lot of long songs you'll be able to store less, and movies, photo's, ect take up room too.

    1. The nanos look funky.

    2. Nobody needs 160Gb of music/video storage. Steve, you've finally gone overboard this time.

    3. I personally don't really like the split screen. There's an option to disable that, right?

Aside from that, this would be a good time to go to best buy and get a older ipod on discount. Shame I don't have money to blow on a 30 Gb 5G. My 4Gb 2G nano is bursting.

I just gave the page another look and if you look closely at the itouche's screen you'll see a blue icon near the bottom that says "videos".

I personally think it's sad how Apple has completely taken over the mp3 market. I hate when a single corporation monopolized an entire sector. Don't get me started on Microsoft, ironic because I'm using a Windows System. Mind you Apple hasn't completely spun ot prices, still.

Besides that, the new line up dosen't look half bad.

When you say "died," what do you mean?  That the battery no longer charges perhaps?  Either way, you might want to see about getting it fixed.  And don't bother going to Apple for it.  They make great products, but their customer service is pretty bad.

I waited to see what the new iPods would look like.  After being thoroughly disappointed, I took my iPod Mini to have a replacement battery put in.  Only cost me $40.  I could have done it for $15, but I wanted to make sure I had a good battery in there.

They also mentioned to me that most iPod problems are rather easy fixes, despite what Apple tells you.  Look into it.  4.gif

Well... As you all might know, I hate ipods with a passion. Don't ask why, I will not explain. But, the touch idea is cool. Touch screens in general are cool, like Nintendo DS'. And a built in music store sounds pretty darn convenient.

I won't buy one of course, or I'll just wait for Microsoft to make one 2.gif

apple barely ever fixes things, my friend's ipod cracked because it was new and what not, and this was before the recall, and the people at the apple store wouldn't fix it. i lost my headphones so my brother and i went to the apple store to get new ones, and they're like, 'balhtablhabblh sorry no'.

The new Nano look like a Credit Card with a screen to me 3.gif

I saw one in the Apple Store today and it was almost interesting enough to buy one... but not now while the prices are high...

I gotta give Apple credit... at least they are trying to get their best line up ready for the Christmas Shopping Season...

The ipod touch is awesome. In fact i am typing this very response on it. I have a friend who works at apple and they can sell it early if they want. The battery life is far better than the ipod video. Its amazing how much a touch screen streamlines many functions. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

    Ok then:

So anyway I've also seen this iPod and come to the same conclusion as always

Continue to berate it as iScum with iTunes being iScum the Second.

Having both used iPods and Creative Zens and own both at one time or another (right now I own a Zen Vision M 30gb) I still am in the firm opinion Creative for now create better quality products.

iTunes are know to be a pain in the ass and with Zens just plug into flash drive, and allow Windows or the Zens software transfer mp3 files with one say click of the mouse. Also makes downloading LEGAL mp3 files easier knowing I won't have problems running it on the Zen.

And yip, video quality is superior to iPods as well.

As  for iPhones, no good here while the network is still pretty much crap and Vodafone gets their act sorted out as the main carrier for the iPhones here in NZ

Ooops this wasn't a iPod bashing thread

    Ahhh well
