It looks awesome, certainly unique, but they're gonna build that in Leningrad?  If I was taught correctly, isn't the city built on a swampy river, not very stable foundation (or is this just russian propaganda)?  Good luck with that...

anyway, here's my subtle project:

With modern technology and enough cash you can built anything anywhere. But half of the city is almost to ready to take up arms to prevent this construction from taking place - biggest public opinion revolt in a city and probably country for last 7 yeas. People believe it will ruin skyline and so does UNESCO, Russian association of architects - who boycotted the competition for the project so only foreign architects were participating, Foster and two other "stars" had publicly resigned from commission created to judge the entires... Well project had enough drama already to fill Shakespearean play!

Then again, other half seem to like it to death! so it's gonna be wall on wall!

It is some say that it is same as to built Skyscraper in Venice, but then again Venice is essentially dead city - no offense, but it's role is reduced to be a museum, the St Pete can not be that. It has 5 million residents to feed!

And, as saying goes, what woman wants - woman gets!

And here is that woman:

spbgovua3.jpg

Valentina Matvienko - The Governor. Some ieven prophecise her to become first woman president of Russia one day.

Hey, local.live has some medium resolution pictures of Leningrad, which is new.

Well, I agree with you about Leningrad being a working city, I mean the historic downtown of it is actually used, as far as I can remember.  But I was told that the tower would be built on more or less good ground, which isn't in the dead center of the city.  I was also told that the buildings get a bit taller in that area and surrounding areas (mostely apartments) compared to the 4 to 5 story high center.

edit: yeah, the website shows that the tower is away from the actual center of the city (but still on waterfront).

http://www.ohta-center.ru/ (under the location button, ??????????)

I personally like the design of it and it looks pretty, but the city picked isn't the best.  I'm greatful that it isn't being built in the historic area of the city (well, if it was it would probably sink!).

Good luck batting it, make sure you include the whole complex. 4.gif

I really love that Ohta Center.. Looks a lot like the Chicago Spire building planned for Chicago's waterfront.

@ILL Tonks: haha, yeah, the video that I posted lost a good two thirds of its quality... it was nice smooth and had a better aspect ratio (1.6)

@Patriots_1228: well this isn't something that can be explained in a couple of words, but basically I gave a target camera a path constraint, animated the path's elevation along with the location of the camera target.  Afterwards I tested for a smooth transition in everything and it worked out fine, except rendering took a good 15 hours.  3ds max has some good built in tutorials that explain how to animate pretty well (from simple animations to paths, iks, bones, etc), so I suggest to look there first.  Opens up  whole new worlds in 3d --> vectors and motion (not to mention time).

Haha, I'm rendering one right now that took 36 hours so far and is predicted to take another 15 hours (well, I think it's more like 24... the prediction is a bit off on this one)

Maybe if I use network rendering engines (mr supports this 4.gif) I can make it much faster.

This is a screenshot of my CACC Chrysalis Tower Version 2 in perspective view and in a zoom 3 render. This tower was completed some time ago, but I had some issues with exporting it. I'm not sure why, but the most recent export I did took over 5 days, until eventually i gave up on the export. But anyway, here's what it will look like.

Come see what's cooking in my BAT Workshop

Nice tower nyc06!

I coughed this up in 2 minutes... mainly because I didn't do the building, I saw it on another site and couldn't resist its bleakness... added a couple of stars, some cryllic slogans and you have yourself a Commie building!

chp.jpg

edit- ah, crap...couldn't seem to export it to Gmax properly... meh, i'll make my own imitation I guess.
