Instead of posting for yourself in your own forum, let's post together for everyone to see at once. I don't need to hear how there is already a forum like this and not to double post. There must not be if they don't have a similar title.

If everyone started posting in one thread, the thread would be so busy, that no one would be able to easily read it.  There would be literally dozens of conversations going on at once.

When everyone has their own threads, it is a lot easier to keep track of conversations.  And it's easier to keep track of the projects you want to keep track of.

Good point, but I would hope people would use this for pictures and a little information. not to have a conversation. Which is what messaging on here was to be used for. If people hate this idea, this post can always be deleted.

Well, this forum isn't for teasers, or to show pictures off, it is for people to show what they're working on so that other people can give critiques.

It's also for fun, since talking about BATing while doing it, and having conversations and that kind of stuff is fun (at least to me).

This has always been the purpose of the BAT - Open Discussion.

If people would like to post in this thread too though, that's fine by me.  1.gif

I wonder how I didn't come on this earlier!  3.gif  I think it's a great idea and I like "show us your..." threads.  They can give off great ideas!

Anyway, here are some teaser shots from my thread, The Wonderful World of Caustics (link in my sig, in case you're interested...):

I also think this thread is a good idea.  Just a place where people can quickly catch up on BATters' progress without wading through multiple threads and pages of critique.  It would also be ideal for those who (like me) don't want to maintain a full BAT thread on ST.

Alright, I like this thread. Good idea. Guess you've forced my hand... alright, alright, I'll show what I've been working on. Guess I couldn't shroud it in secrecy forever.

Keep in mind, this is my first BAT, be gentle! Roof shingle texture is just a placeholder for now.

    oakst1.jpg

It's my parent's home in Manchester, NH. Thanks to Mr. Glamazon for the porch detail. Here's the swingset my Dad built in the backyard: (The big yellow slide was the hardest part to model!)

    fort1.jpg

And here's a preview render. I haven't scaled it up vertically yet, final result might be a bit taller. I'm also not sure I've got the scale quite right, I modeled in feet and inches and converting it I had to scale up the whole model a bit, not sure if it's perfect yet. Here we go:

Not bad at all Benvolio! Besides the shingles which you're aware of might I suggest picking a new driveway texture? That stock photo doesn't do your bat justice. You might want to add a lip around the chimney top and maybe a few small roof vents. I'm really impressed. This is a very detailed first bat. I have been around for a while longer but I would have no idea how to make that slide. Great work.

These are looking great, now I can't wait for them.

But while we are all waiting, let me also throw one into the inspiration pot.  I know, I have a thread buried somewhere, but I'm not quite ready to rework and update it into a general creation thread.  But here is definitely cool, and this is the one item I have closest to finishing:

    Casino Club teaser

This is the charming "Mayan" Art Deco Casino Club, the handsome 1927 home of the local elite German-American social club found nestled along the Riverwalk in San Antonio.  It remains a work in progress, as I am currently fussing night lights around the shaft of the tower, and I still need to add rings of glittery lights to the colorful crown.  In reality this building doesn't really light up much at all, but who says we can't add a little pizzazz.  It will front the street as many popular wall-to-wall BATs, but it won't be flush on the rear wall as this building backs against an alleyway.  If I am clever enough to figure out the modding, it may work as a short diagonal, though the angle will be shallow (architectural angles are usually laid out proportionally, and once again I just happen to find a building with the proportion that coincides with the geometries of the axonometric perspective such that the building makes a face flush to the game's viewer angle *groan*).

I wonder if the entry dedication is recognizable.

Oh, don't hold your breath, as I am slooowww and plodding with BATs.

WOW! Odainsaker, That is such a beauty! There are many who can help with diagonal modding, just make sure to ask around 4.gif I think Krio and Prepo are very good with helping in diagonals. I do hope you release it! 9.gif

EDIT: Great BATS aswell autovino, zero7, josefmayor, benvoliothefirst, Thank you all for sharing!

    Nice work Odain!

On the subject of classical architecture. I have been dieing for some West London Retail for AGES now so i decided to model some. Starting with 188-196 Regent Street, Hamleys Toy Store. I have a lot of detail to do yet on the front facade (also those 1st floor windows look grey and empty, as with the ground floor).

    Odainsaker, it's looking great!

There are a few mistakes, and some things that need to be added, but this is the basic model of the Penobscot Building, from Detroit, Michigan.  Updates for this and other buildings from Michigan will be in the Barry Sanders Project thread.

If we started giving out advice in this thread, think about how complicated it would get, lol.  Look at how fast individual threads are, or how fast the forum has become in general.  I think this thread will overflow.

The screenshot I posted actually has a smaller area than 800x600, but either way, I'm not fussy about the sizes as long as the space is being used for something.  Horizontal scrolling is to be avoided though.

Patriots:  It will be more incredible later!!
