Curved Roads and New NAM

At SC4devotion I've been reading about a curved road project--I believe that curved roads would revolutionize the look of SC4 and it's something I've dreamed about for years.  I hear that they will be part of an updated NAM, due out soon.  Does anyone have more information on that?  I tried a forum search but did not discover anything.

I have been away from SC4 for a while because I have been so busy with work, but curved roads would probably bring me back.

Regards,

David

Man, I am really excited about this. I guess I'll while away the time by returning to another interest, a truly realistic marina. I know next to nothing about creating custom content, but I'm back on the trail....

I'll keep my eyes peeled for the release of those curved road pieces. All I've seen in development are rural pics, but I think the potential for use in urban areas is terrific.

That is quite brilliant!!! Two questions is it possible to zone areas around the curves and are there some planned for highways because the curves on that have GOT to be the worst anywhere in SC4!

bearmans:  To answer your questions, yes, it is indeed possible to zone along the Wide Radius Curve puzzle pieces.  As far as Highway ones go, part of the problem is that the Highway is a 3D network, so that considerably complicates things in terms of making the pieces.  It would almost be as complicated as building a new interchange.  However, the RHW is an entirely different story.2.gif

Krukedogg:  Check my sig--there's a direct link to the STEX entry for it.2.gif  And you need the NAM with the optional ANT Plugin installed.  If you're not sure if you have the ANT Plugin installed Check to see if you have the file "NetworkAddonMod_ANT_Plugin_Beta.dat" in your Plugins\NetworkAddonMod folder.  If not, you'll need to reinstall the NAM.

Though you may just want to wait for the new NAM to come out, if you know what I mean . . . 2.gif

MarcosMX:  Well, you know we NAM types don't/can't give release dates.2.gif  We like to surprise people . . .

I can tell you this will be a rather different release than in the past, and it's a lot closer than anyone realizes, if that gives you any idea.

I think these are great. How close can we zone to the curve? Are there multiple pieces per curve or is the curve one big lot?

BTW, I wonder if Tarkus means tomorrow..... The way he's been talking on the RHW thread. it's possible.

*Edit: I so called it. 9.gif

DO HIGHWAYS! Highway curves are needed, the in-game are so unrealistic. And as a bonus with most people's play style, the extra tiles taken by these curves are usually empty already.

Larger curves for the Maxis default highways are inherently more difficult to make than those for roads, avenues, or even the RHW. This is because Maxis highways use 3D models; any new curves would have to be BATted, which requires extreme accuracy to ensure they line up with the straight pieces. The other networks are simpler since they use flat (2D) textures, and so they take much less time to make.
