Jacqulina Hi, Jacky! Yep, it's a regular Tom and Jerry show, and this time, Jerry doesn't win!

patriots_1228 Thanks. And, ummm........ Flying Elvis? I don't want to be a hound dog, but... are you all shook up? :-P

Jacqulina Thanks! Glad you like it. The new style for Lake George is English. Of course, the rest of Devonshire will be something else. Or maybe a hybrid. We'll hafta see!

Narya Thank you, m'lady! I forgive you for your absence... if you have a BIG slice of that chocolate cake for me!

DioAngel Thanks, Linda! Now, you are officially SIC... a sister in comedy! Welcome to SHT!

Shadow_Assassin Hey, Funny Bones! Glad you like it. The hint in the reply banner I had a bit earlier... a way too subtle hint... was the city view of Oxford picture. Foreshadowing English style development to come. I am not sure about tea. I already have chocolates locked up with Busscastle. Maybe custard?

Krio Hyvaa houmenta! Glad you like the English village. Too bad Mr. Cheesesnatcher was not around to enjoy it!

Homeandaway Hi, Alex! Thanks. I am glad you like it. BTW, I like your avatar. Who is that cool cat?

Thanks for visiting Schulmania... our topic summary lines are still 78% sentence case!

The bunnies declare their solidarity with the mice. We would like to see proof of the general's "explanation." Motchiri is ready to nibble kitty tails if the situation does not improve.

Jacqulina Hey, J! Glad you like the tombstone! New stuff is coming soon. We will begin exploring Georgetown.

Homeandaway Hey, Alex! Thanks for coming by. I think Blackie and the Supreme Wirdle would love to meet sometime. They have something in common! (besides being cats, that is!)

    pyybaroutwn3.jpg

DioAngel Hey, Linda! How's it going, SIC!? Glad you enjoyed your tour thus far!

patriots_1228 Alfred - I hope you are an Elvis fan!!

IDS2 Cool! Who do I have to bribe to get one?

Zelgadis The spokesbunny released a statement today fully endorsing the Admiral's position...

    Bugs%20Bunny.jpg

To all doubters, he was heard to remark... "What's up, Doc??!!"

Shadow_Assassin Maybe some tea perhaps. Do they have to grow it or just drink it? I don't think the STEX has any ploppable tea farm tiles!

football_fever Actually, they have had streets for a while. I had to, or they would never grow any houses. But, no "roads" with lines on them. At least until they invent the car!

    Devonshire: Curious About Georgetown?

    lakegeorgeseallj9.gif

Let's explore the village of Georgetown. Essex Lane is the scenic little street across from the church which runs to the cliffs. The Cliffs of Mohair run along the eastern shore of Lake George. The townsfolk enjoy strolling down Essex Land to the cliff's edge and throwing paper airplanes. On a windy day, a plane or two can go halfway across the lake! Essex Lane is part of the small commercial heart of Georgetown. Most businesses are on Essex Lane or on Georgetown Road across from the church. Everything is a short stroll from home in this small village.

    essexlanewideview1be0.jpg

In this wider view, businesses can be seen on both sides of Essex Lane. The large building on the left side of the lane is Georgian Mews, a popular gathering spot and hose supply store. The stone building on the right corner is the local office of the Bureau of Feline Affairs. Feline-in-Chief Mittens was recently appointed to head this office. She received her promotion soon after her spectacular successes in customer service during the holiday season at Busscastle Chocolates.

    essexlanemewsez7.jpg

This angle shows the majority of the commerce in town. The Mews is on the right, by the cliff. Next to the Mews are the paired homes of Dawn Dusk and her sister Twilight. They are the proprietresses of the Mews.

    georgianmewsessexlnhp8.jpg

The Georgian Mews, one of the most successful businesses in the area, offers hospitality and great service to visitors from across the realm. The Dusk sisters recently received the first Devonshire Golden Monkey, a trophy from the mayor, for excellence and customer satisfaction.

    essexlane1yz2.jpg

There are mostly shops across the lane from the Mews. The bookstore is at the end of the street (to the left). There is also a market, health care center (doctor office and pharmacy) and general merchandise store. The fine home of Dr. Wisbey's large extended family also sits on Essex Lane.

    essexlane2gn4.jpg

Essex Lane is a great place for a peaceful stroll, or some serious shopping. The Bureau of Feline Affairs has a gift shop on street level, so visitors and townsfolk alike can get lovely cat-themed trinkets for their homes, or perhaps some cat treats for their feline companions.

As we head north from Essex Lane, up Georgetown road, we come across the remainder of the business district. Georgetown Road then meets Georgetown Circle. From the circle, the road continues its meandering around the lake by veering left; turning right on the circle leads down the quiet Yellowhat Lane.

    georgetownroadcbdms3.jpg

Anchoring the corner is the BFA office. Several other businesses line the left side of Georgetown Road.

    georgetowncircletownhaluc9.jpg

Georgetown Circle, the busiest intersection in town. Over 800 wagons and carts pass around the circle daily. The Town Hall presides over the circle, serving as a divider between the remaining commerce (left) and residential (right).

    townhallneneighborhoodrz1.jpg

Georgetown Hall (left) serves as the seat of local government and has a comprehensive school on the upper floor. The Public Safety Agency operates from here, helping to keep villagers safe and secure. The rear portico houses a small museum and the grounds in back feature a lovely garden.

Let's now head down Yellowhat Lane, which terminates at the burial ground. The last house on the lane belongs to the Man With The Yellow Hat, who had the road named after him in honor of his contributions to local children's story collections.

    neneighborhood2np5.jpg

Yellowhat Lane begins at the circle, where Old Man Fledder's cottage stands. He often teeters out the front door to his rocking chair, rocking away and watching the passers-by, occasionally regaling them with fantastic stories about his two granddaughters. Georgetown is known for such colorful characters.

    neneighborhood2withhhft3.jpg

This recent picture, taken on Schulman Day, captures a picture of the Holiday Hawk descending to Old Man Fledder's home. From this angle, you can't see what present he holds in his talons. But, neighbors report that the old man has been seen recently with a new xylophone and has been belting out songs at all hours of the day. Reportedly, his composition, unfamiliar to his neighbors and friends, is a new style the old man invented himself. He calls his creation "disco". Will it become popular? Only time will tell.

    neneighborhood3ep1.jpg

Yellowhat Lane continues past Old Man Fledder's house and around to the burial ground.

    neneighborhood3abm7.jpg

At the bend in the road, Ken Titan shares a nice brick duplex (left side) with Alfred Patriot (right). It's a great neighborhood, but sometimes loud xylophone music from down the street keeps the neighbors up at night.

    neneighborhood4fp9.jpg

Only a few houses separate Ken Titan and Old Man Fledder. Behind the homes stretch open fields and woodlands. Wildlife abounds in the serene surroundings. Although, when the old man's two precocious granddaughters came to visit him once, the surroundings were not quite so scenic.

    forestfire1cl0.jpg

    forestfire2sc0.jpg

Old Man Fledder turned his back for just a moment while the family was hiking in the woods. The two girls, who had packed a surprisingly large amount for such a short hike, suddenly whipped out their torches. (They thought it was dark... they actually were in the shadow of a tall tree) A stray spark or two flew off and ignited the large stack of dresses they brought along. Luckily, the neighbors saw the smoke and got the fire crews there in time to save the forest and the animals.

    nen5lj5.jpg

Return back to the circle, the northeastern neighborhood of Yellowhat Lane is at the top of the image, the business area to the right and bottom, and the town hall left and center. There are a few other businesses along the northwestern edge of town by the town gates.

    nwcitygatewidedc9.jpg

From the circle, looking to the west, the remaining shops in the commercial area can be seen leading up to the city gates. Each village in the Lake George area has decorative gates like these to mark the town boundary line. A pair flanks Georgetown Road at the northwestern entrance to town.

    nwcitygatesbh1.jpg

In this view from the hillside, the Hotel Narya faces the road, just inside the city gate.

South of the church, mostly residences follow the road out of town.

    secitygatewideview1nx9.jpg

From the southeastern city gates, charming homes line Georgetown Road most of its length toward the church. Many have fabulous lakeside views.

    secitygate1nb2.jpg

Gary Vandy lives in the fine stone home in this image. He is the chief cartographer in the region and has recently been commissioned to create a new atlas.

    seneighborhoodoy9.jpg

This neighborhood is popular with fishermen. The fishing aficionados never carp, despite hearing reports about how the sport will flounder when too many are caught. But, the fish are attracted by music. A quartet plays the bass and drumfish while a large grouper gathers to watch the fish swim up to the water's edge. When one sardine asked another why they were swimming so close to the musicians and fishermen, the other replied: "I dunno... just for the halibut!"

    southneighborhoods1ez2.jpg

Close to the city center, fine homes offer villagers a high quality of life... at an affordable price.

    southneighborhoods2rw5.jpg

On the corner is a Busscastle Chocolates store, flanked on the right by Belva's, the first 5 star restaurant in the region.

    southneighborhoods3hm3.jpg

In this parting view of Georgetown, the southern half of town offers a tranquil lifestyle for its residents. Beyond, the hills and woods provide ample resources and recreation.

Georgetown stands as the easternmost settlement to date in Schulmania. It features some distinctive landmarks which will no doubt influence future development. Its colorful characters and delightful surroundings make it a favorite of tourists from across the realm. We will explore further around the lake, and see the other villages of Lake George.
