EEEP! Look great. I love the color. I was just thinking recently about needing more sandstone buildings, something I mentioned to JBSimio (that his new taller buildings would look great in sandstone) elsewhere.

If I could make suggestion is that penthouse thingey on the top of the roof seems huge, atleast from that perspective. It only seems huge because the ones in other sc4 buildings are smaller usually. Its in no way a problem, but it just seems so HYOOOUGGE (like 2 stories) compared to the rest of it to me.

oh, I forgot how you scale your buildings.

The SC3K building I was thinking of is in the upper right corner of this screen shot.

It also reminded me of a different building in Detroit which can be seen in Local Live.

well, as I've said not to bad... but just may be calls for bigger windows, but that is of course the hell of a solution requiring to remodel everything else...

One thing that you may try if you feel like it - make doors more monumental somehow - this will justify them being oversized and would be pretty much in stile of the building.

But it wouldn't bee to much of a problem to leave it as is either.

It looks very good textured!

One little thing is that it feels a bit too orangy-yellow...

too orangy-yellow? I guess you have not seen the sandstone buildings in my area then. Compared to them its not orangy-yellow enough!

    Sim shady: Thank you!

Fledgeling: Thanks! Yeah, I was also thinking we need more buildings like this in the game. Also agree with you on the penthouse. It was HUGE! I scaled that puppy down to size.

Jasoncw: Yep! That is the one I was thinking of. Man, there were some good buildings in SC3K. I know a few attempts have been made at recreating them, but maybe it's time I fired up the game and got some new inspiration!

Also, how have I never noticed that Detroit building before?

SimFox: I agree, and I think I'll go with your latter option and leave it as is. I exported it and put it in the game tonight, and I think it looks just fine, actually. You can let me know what you think -- I'm posting some screen shots below.

    UPDATE

This may be the fastest I have ever finished a building before. I started this yesterday afternoon, and by tonight it was exported and in the game!

Damn................................................... this is a solid BAT

Everyone here should give this cat props. He's taking all the same classes as I am in grad school, and we have a ton of papers due soon. Glad this one didn't get stuck in the pipeline.

Indeed that looks good. A very quick finish! I have the same question though as Jason, what does the back look like?

    Thanks everyone!

D'oh! I took a screen shot of the back, and then forgot to post it. Here you go:

    Griffin_Marshall4.jpg

I'm strongly considering adding a fire escape and re-exporting.

EDIT: And we will not talk about how terribly oversized the back doors are on my Third Ward Lofts. 22.gif

I think a fire escape would be good.  I also think you should add on the flashing you mentioned.  The night lights may be too strong as well.  Also, I think you should increase your AA settings, as well as the number of bounces for your indirect illumination.  I say this because the shadow side of the building looks like it could use higher settings.  The higher number of bounces could also help differentiate the overlapping brick walls in the back, so they don't blend into each other as much.

It makes my Wagner & Diehl Building look very outdated.  3.gif

Congratulations on a quickly made BAT.  Now I feel the need to finish my new building really fast, lol.

Kudos Nofunk! I tip my hat to you; excellent work. If projects could be pumped out this fast, you'd be putting other BATters out of business!

A fire escape could work out quite well. I was actually thinking that the back could really use some grafitti. Big blank walls in a downtown setting are a magnet for at least a little bit of urban "art." It's easy to do with an alpha transparency. I have a few already made from my own bats that I could share with you if you want. Oh and what about some signage such as no parking signs or a loading zone sign or a caution strip along the top of the garage doors or something. Just some ideas to add a little bit more detail to the back.

ilikehotdogsalot: Long time no see! Thank you!!

    jaculina: Thank you, my friend!

autoVino: Not true! You've got some great projects going on too! Thanks!

Jasoncw: Will definitely add a fire escape. I added the flashing, increased AA and bounce settings, and lowered the light intensity some last night.

And I think Wagner & Diehl still looks great. It's one of my favorite BATs actually. What makes it seem outdated?

Swiss_Canadian: Why, thank you! I think how fast I've modeled this one is a bit of a fluke; most projects take me much longer!

spa: Yeah, I'll definitely add a fire escape. Graffiti is a great idea, too. I have two relatively blank walls, actually -- and they'll be especially noticeable if someone doesn't use this in a wall-to-wall scenario. I think graffiti would be a great solution to this. If you get the chance, I'd love to use some of your graffiti. Just shoot me a pm!

Also, the signage is a great idea. And maybe some utility boxes. This is by no means finished -- but it's getting close!

I'm not crazy about including grafitti in the BAT, but I wouldn't loose any sleep if you did it.

I still like Wagner & Diehl too, it just seems kind of clunky and compared to what we've been making now.

ahhh!!  Now I'm all excited about this stuff but I need to finish my studio stuff before I can go home!  6.gif

Fledgeling: I'd like to think so! Man, I miss Will Wright from the earlier versions of the game.

Thoughts? This is your last chance before I start modding this!

Sam, I played around with the graffiti... wasn't sure what I thought about it though, so I'm going to leave it off this building. But the textures are great -- I'll definitely use them in the future!

In other news, I opened the Donovan Building in 3DS tonight. Hm...

No problem. I just threw the idea and textures out there as a suggestion. It's up to you to decide if they work or not. If you're ready to call it a day on this one I think the addition of the fire escape and the sign between the garage doors is enough to give the eye some detail to look at.

Jasoncw: Hm... I'm not sure I follow. If this were a real building, I don't think they'd put expensive terra cotta on the walls that don't face the street.

spa: I'll definitely put them to good use! I've got a lot of ideas for more warehouse buildings, and I think the graffiti would work perfectly on some of them.
