Thank you all for the great comments!

SimHoTToDDy: You DO need to pick a Detroit building to model! I'm sorry I snagged the Park Shelton before you could get to it! 3.gif

Well, real life tackled me this week. I've had lots of school work to do and other things to accomplish, and I'll be flying out to Milwaukee this weekend. But things will be rolling again soon! Expect J. G. Haddock uploaded some time next week, and there may be another BAT release later on this month!

    Hope everyone is doing well!

Nice work on all of your lots, nofunk. I have just downloaded all of your lots. J. G. Haddock & Co. is the 10,000th lot in my Plugins folder!

    Hi all!

I hope you all have been doing well. I have been very busy with grad school, so I haven't had much time to work on buildings but... but...

    I started something new! Here's a teaser:

    newbldg.jpg

    Expect a REAL preview soon!

Also, Jason is working on textures for my Maccabees Building, and it could be released very soon!

    Hi all,

I certainly didn't need to start a new project; I have at least three ongoing right now. But a recent trip to Cincinnati inspired me to return to my art deco roots.

I have begun work on Carew Tower:

    carew3.jpg

Here is a reference photo of the building:

    carew_ref.jpg

As you can see, I still have some work on the top of the building. I also intend to model the shorter adjoining tower.

What I'd like to do is offer the tower and the shorter addition separately and together, but I'm not sure what the best approach would be. Of course, I have plenty of time to decide that.

By the way, I've also changed my avatar. I've had the same one since I joined the site in 2003(!!) so I figured it was time for a change. Bonus points to whoever can guess what film it's from. The film is filled with art deco themes and animation.

Oh jeze, you sure know how to pick them! That looks like a hellova project, both towers (and presumably the base adjoining them) is simply massive. Really can't wait to see progress on this though, I have always wanted to see something like this done!

Now that's tall. Making it part of a complex could look really great. We don't have many complex types to choose from. Although including the option for two separate buildings would, of course, be much appreciated. As for the avatar, I have no idea but the guy looks like an old pilot so that would fit with the art deco time frame. Other than that I have nothing 4.gif

Thanks for the great comments, everyone! I'm glad you like it.

Here's a new preview of Carew Tower! I still have more work on the top, of course, but the main tower is nearing completion! Next I'll start working on the shorter tower--what wolverine likes to call the tower's "badonkadonk"--lol.

That roof looks agonizing, but it looks like you are getting it done. Very nice indeed. Just a question, any idea what those black lines on the top of the tower are? Probably just shadows, but it might be worth looking into (co-planer perhaps?).

A Suggestion: You said you were going to create the adjoining tower, well perhaps make them on separate lots (but if they were placed in the game a certain way they would look attached), thus someone would essentially create an L-Shaped Lot.

I believe that's from Steamboy- definitely a spectacular movie to watch for the visuals 9.gif

Also, glad to see you're working on something from Cincinnati- it's a great tower, I think at the time the Carew Tower was being built it was the tallest building going up outside of New York City. Go art deco-ness.

Did you get to see the lobby? It's rather amazing, and is a pretty big contrast with the plainer exterior.

And, btw, really nice work. I've been a fan of your buildings for a long time now. thanks, they've made for great additions to the game.

    Gn_leugim, jacqulina, Jasoncw: Thanks guys!

SimHoTToDDy: The roof turned out to be much more complex than I thought it would be lol, and I'm sure that it's not completely accurate, but it's close. The dark lines were actually holes in the wall--you could see into the structure. Needless to say, I've fixed those!

Spike345: Because of how the base is constructed and how the buildings fit on the base, I don't think that's possible, although it's a great idea! I am trying to figure out how to offer these towers as two separate buildings however. We'll see how it goes.

ddhib: I'm honored that after 5 1/2 years on Simtropolis, you decided to make your first post in my thread. I think you're right about Carew being the tallest when it was being built. It's a great building, and it would have been interesting to see how it would have turned out had the Depression not hit and forced the developer to scale back. I have been in the lobby and it's spectacular. I've also been up to the roof--great views of the city!

By the way, the last building I uploaded--J. G. Haddock & Co.--is actually a Cincinnati building. It's located on Elm Street between 4th and McFarland.

Also, you're right about my avatar. It is Steamboy.

    ---

So, I've finally topped off the tower. Here's a zoom 4 preview render, in color (no more "clay model" renders).

    carew24.jpg

Also, here are zoom 5 previews. They're getting really large, so I don't want to keep posting them in my thread:
