I have an announcement to make.

It is with great sorrow that I announce that Manchester has lost the 06 Simlympics.  It has let a lot of people down... including me.  For those of you who want to attempt at it in the future, good luck to you all.

Since I am now no longer in business with the Simlympics (except for athletes), things will once again go as normal: I work on my BATs and lots and etc. while doing Manchester the way it's supposed to be done.

Daryl: You really did have a VERY good bid, it was an extremley close and hard decision. I beleive Manchester is a very good site for a possible future Simlympics, if you choose to bid again. Anyway, on behalf of all the Commitee I would like to thank you for taking part in the Simlympics, you really did have a very good and detailed bid. I wish you the best of luck with yuor CJ (which i will continue to follow) and in the actual Simlympics, i am sure you will win loads of medals!

Update 4A: The Plane Takes Off

This update and most other Simlympic related updates will focus on two athletes who are friends: Jeremy Wariner and Otis Harris.

I also have made a custom plane for this update.

6 years later from the previous update

Wariner: Take a look at that.

Harris: For Midtown that is one big plane.

    01jv0.jpg

[The boys get in the plane]

    Wariner: Whoa, Roomy.

    Twenty minutes later

    [seat belt sign goes on]

Pilot: Ladies and gentlemen the seat belt sign has just come on, so please put your seatbelts on as we are about to start taxiing to the runway.

Harris: Well for one thing were headed off to New Rhodesia, I wonder what it's like there.

Wariner: Yeah, I mean the place has never hosted the Olympics before, and Manchester even put a bid in.

Harris: They lost, not to mention the hard effort to put in.

Wariner: Ah who cares, at least its time for the Olympics again.

    [in the plane *****pit]

    02ng1.jpg

Copilot: Midtown Tower this is Olympic 545 requesting takeoff clearance.

ATC: Roger Olympic 545 permitted for takeoff on runway 36, stand by for clearance,

    [2 minutes later]

ATC: Olympic 545 you are clear for takeoff on runway 36.

    Pilot: 10/4.

    [Pilot pushes throttle up]

    Harris: Finally movin'.

Wariner: Yeah, we are finally movin'.

    03bh7.jpg

    Wariner: So, are we packed?

Harris: Yeah we have everything we need in our suitcases.

Wariner: I wonder if the runway can take this plane.

Harris: Yeah I think it will.

    04qg1.jpg

    [plane lifts off]

    Wariner: Look at the lights.

    Harris: Yeah, aren't they awesome?

Wariner: That's the last time we're seeing it, though, until we get back.

Harris: Yeah, we can always enjoy New Rhodesia.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.  If anyone wants the plane skin, gimme a PM and chances are I will send it to you.  If you want the UDI 767, it can be found here.

Love all the Olympic or Simlympic stuff... cute seeing all those stadiums and stuff ...

Love the ariport on the previous page too.

I was looking through your Bat thread too .. Love the look of the stations you are making... excellent work.

Fox: Yeah, thanks, it's cause this is my very own version of the Big Apple, and you can get some RL pictures of NY and having no problem referring to it as Manchester.

The airport is only a feeder airport, the bigger airport is under construction.

S1acker: Yes I will continue with them, but first...

    Some Simlympics news, for USA:

    Archery:

    For the mens individuals:

Gold Medal: Michael Jones (United Kingdom)
    Silver Medal: John Magera (USA)

    For the mens team:
    Random picked
    Gold medal: Casanares
    Silver Medal: DeKalb (country unknown)

    Womens individual:

    Gold medal: Jennifer Nichols (USA)
    Silver medal: (Canada)

    Womens teams

    Gold Medal: (Canada)
    Silver Medal: (Japan)

    Note: RLS will affect this
Those in italic are for the Simlympics, not Olympics.

    Rowing:

Gold Medal: Stephan Rees, Edward Kemp, Rhodri Stevenson and Michael ap Dafydd (United Kingdom)
    Silver Medal: (Casanares)

Manchester didn't win medals for rowing.

Nice country feel to your pics.  If I may suggest to you not to use avenues in the forested area but try using the RHW.  Look it up in the forums, it's on one of the last pages, looks awesome.  Good work though.

rooker1: I have the RHW, however I chose not to use it cause of the mountains in the area, the space between each roadway (1 tile), the disability to not be able to cross railway tracks diagonally, and the disability to turn into an avenue diagonally to cross the tracks.

[uS National anthem plays as the US Flag is raised]

O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
    Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave

    [Crowd cheers]

    Congratulations, Bach for winning gold!!!

Note: New Rhodesia team is now considered United Kingdom, after learning that it is not in a separate Welsh country, it is in Wales, which is in the UK.

EDIT: For Judo and fencing USA didn't  win any medals.  However one woman in Judo placed 4th--so close to bronze.

Been almost a month since the last posts... anyway I got this new computer and I'm trying to move files from one system to another.  I'm also gonna experiment on making a sort of short movie for the next update (I got movie maker).  There will be an explosion in it.

Hey pilotdaryl, I talked with S1acker, who gave me a list of all cities participating in the December Simlymlpics in Dunstonville. The cities were placed in four different divisions: The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the SCJU. The cities were placed based on the author's location, the cj's location, and the amount of cj's in each division. Manchester was placed in the U.S. division.4.gif

    Thanks everyone!

    Update 5: To Dunstonville!!!

We finally have another update after almost a month--this update will not be in video--it is an "in-between" minor update.

    Sorry for the delay!

This update depicts the plane taking off from Manchester Midtown Airport on the final course to Dunstonville International Airport.

So the full US team was late for the opening ceremony--why? One of four planes in the "Olympic" fleet was delayed at Houston, it's second last stop, bound for Manchester.  It arrived at Manchester today at 6:30, for the last leg of the flight to Dunstonville 2006.

    planeparkwd4.th.jpg

The Olympic teams started boarding the plane, but were also engulfed by fans at Planespotter's Park:

    planeparktwojx2.th.jpg

In 45 minutes the plane was ready for the pushback.

"Kilo Mike India Delta this is Olympia Flyer 110, IFR to Kilo-Delta-Uniform-November, departing south-west, request taxi to the runway," said the pilot.

"Olympia Flyer 110 this is Midtown tower taxi to and hold short of Runway 18 using taxiway A," said the controller.

"Olympia Flyer 110 to taxi and hold short of Runway 18 using taxiway A," acknowledged the pilot.

The pushback started and soon the plane was ready to taxi:

    pushbackzg0.th.jpg

The plane started to taxi forward and turned left at the taxiway:

    taxi1mh2.th.jpg

It stopped short of the runway.

"Olympia Flyer 110 runway is clear," said the controller.

"Runway is clear, Olympia Flyer 110," said the pilot.

    He rolled onto the runway:

    runway01kf9.th.jpg

"Olympia Flyer 110 you are cleared for takeoff Runway 18," said the controller.

"Cleared for takeoff Runway 18, Olympia Flyer 110," said the pilot.

He pushed the throttle to 95% N1 and the plane started rolling down the runway:

    runway02ac4.th.jpg

The US team watched the crowds at Planespotter's Park to the left of the plane, as the plane rolled down the runway.

    The nose started to rise:

And the plane lifted off the ground:

The airplane turned Southwest and the flight became smooth and steady:

    To be continued...
