Whopps, sorry, I haven't updated a few links in here.

Any way, I think the post that the link is refering to is this one here:

Ok, it looks like I got it to work properly, here's my procedure:

Download the update files from Tropod, and rename the folder SC4_ RH_Deluxe_Update1 such that there's a space at the start. Put that folder in /Applications/SimCity 4/SimCity 4 Data/Plugins/, the space will put it at the top of the list of plugins, making it load first, where it needs to be. If you use the Network Addon Mod (NAM), put all the installation files for the NAM in a folder called NAM also inside /Applications/SimCity 4/SimCity 4 Data/Plugins/. This makes the NAM load second, after the update.

Note that the update is not required to use the NAM, but it does help. The main benefits I've seen so far are the improved highway/avenue interchanges, which allow left-turns. I have also noticed improved pathfinding. In one case, I had a city that was mostly residential (Finneytown), and a neighboring city with a lot of commercial and industrial jobs (Lockland). Before the update, nearly all the people commuted into Lockland, only to take the closest road into the next city, none of them getting jobs in Lockland. If I tried to follow these commuters, they'd just keep moving from city to city, never settling, or sometimes just disappearing altogether. This suggests that the people were getting jobs that didn't exist, thus supporting residential growth that wasn't warranted. The stream of commuters always bounced around too, going from tens of thousands to zero and back every few months. When I applied the update, many of the houses in Finneytown abandoned, because the phantom jobs no longer existed. The residents that stayed eventually did get jobs in Lockland, and none of them had to go into a third city to find a job. Good stuff.

Regarding my specific situation, I restored a good, working install of the game. I followed the above procedure, and left all my other mods/props/BATs/etc., loose in the plugins folder like they were before. I did trash my com.aspyr.simcity4.plist file which is in ~/Library/Preferences/ before relaunching the game. One thing I have yet to test is whether the graphics problems will reappear if I set the game back to using windowed mode. It works great now in fullscreen mode, so I'll see if it sticks when windowed.

Thanks for your help everyone. 1.gif

It comes from this thread here.

Hope this helps :D And welcome to simtropolis :D

OK, so the file named SC4_RH&Deluxe_Pre2PostUpdate1_InstallationFilesDifferential needs to be renamed to SC4_RH_Deluze_Update1, correct?

What do I need the space for? Where do I put the space?

How do I know if I have NAM or not? And, where do I get NAM? Do I need it? What if I were to add it later?

And, I want to be sure, but are you saying I need to delete com.aspyr.simcity4.plist on my system too?

Not quite, when you download the file it should have a folder inside of it called "SimCity 4_RH&Deluxe_Pre2PostUpdate1_InstallationFilesDifferential", open this folder and there will be a folder called "SC4_ RH_Deluxe_Update1". The space needs to be placed at the start of that folders name, so it will look like this: " SC4_ RH_Deluxe_Update1" (without quotation marks, this applies to all file names). The space needs to be here so that it loads first, before any other plugins, if it doesn't, it won't work. Don't rename anyother folders, just this one. And you want to move this folder and its contents to your plugins folder.

If you don't know if you have the NAM, then you probably wont. Check it out here. Its one of the best downloads for SC4, you might want to browser their other files too.

I think it is advised to delete the com.aspyr.simcity4.plist, however I am not sure if it is necessary. I would trash it just incase, a new one will be generated with the current settings when loading the game anyway, so it shouldn't do any damage. Don't fully delete it though, just incase you need it later.

Thanks a bunch, your mirror site proved invaluable to me, now that the official (old) simcity4 site is no more.

Since the EA SimCity 4 website has been shut down, this tool is proving useful for all SimCity users now... Zelgadis, you'll need to transfer the files elsewhere if and when you upgrade to iCloud though.

you can also get the Maxis Rewards from my site, currently just the windows versions (zipped), but a MAC user on SimPeg has asked if I can also load them for her in the MAC file area, the window versions are here

Is there anywhere presently to get the Mac RH update1 file or the graphics sgr file for Mac? Anything else that I should be looking for to patch/apply to the Mac version? I have the NAM and numerous other mods/bats/dependencies all set up. Over a gig's worth of extras. It takes 26 seconds to get the EA intro screen to come up on my game on my dual core 2.66 Mac Pro with all the stuff I'm loading. :)

Hi,

I have a question. A few of them, actually.

First off, let me explain my situation.

1) I have a PowerPC G5

2) I have VirtualPC running Windoze XP on my machine.

3) I only run the Rush Hour Expansion Pack off of a CD. Meaning, it isn't installed in my Applications folder.  The folders like "Plugins" or "Regions' all reside in the ~/Documents/Sim City 4/ folder.  But other than that, nothing is installed game-wise.

4) I don't have the Windoze version of the game anywhere under Virtual PC.

Now, my issue:

I run the EP-1 Upgrade, right.  So, I can start the nightlighting process (it's twofold).  However, when I try to VPC it, the messages "Old file Missing" and "Missing/Invalid INI File"  After a very short time, the EP-1 installer says the Update is complete.

Now, I understand, I don't have a version running under VPC.  But, Is it possible the Update happened? My guess is, "No!".  But, I my last Compaq had Windows '98 on it.  What I'm trying to say is, "I don't know how PC's work anymore it has been that long since I had one."  So, I don't know if, in fact, the Update was run at all.  If it did run, where do I find the files to move it to the Mac side of my G5?  The checked the c: Program Files/Sim City 4/Plugins on the Windows side. Naturally, they weren't there. And, I don't even have a "Maxis" folder anywhere under VPC.

So, my questions are these:

"How do I Upate both EP1 and the BAT patch under Virtual PC if I don't have the game installed under VPC?  Can I?"

Dumb questions, I know.  But, I have to ask them.

Help me, please,

nf

I apologize if this is the wrong folder for this but I've recently picked SC4 back up & I own the Deluxe Edition.  I don't remember whenI bought it but I'm curious as to whether or not my copy was made to include all the updates (buildings as props, EP-1, EP-2) or are they custom content?  If they were from Maxis where (what folder) can I check to see if they are included or needed?

I'm not certain atm, however I do have a file from @catty-cb called sc4macaddons.zip which contains a single file called sc4macaddons.sit. I've tossed the .zip on WeTransfer.Com. The linky will be valid for about a week.

I hope this is what you are looking for. *;)

The file you sent did certainly do something: several lots that were not displayed correctly before are working fine now. This is really appreciated. Thanks again.

The Maxis files I meant are the landmarks that Maxis published to download for free, like the Brandenburg Gate, Arc de Triomphe and so on. EA/Maxis don' t host those files anymore and the links on https://screwpiledevelopments.com/screw-pile-exchange-spex/maxis-files/ don't work anymore either (at least the landmark files are not available).

Ah well, phooey. I didn't know what would or wouldn't be in the Mac .sit file. Let's cut to the chase and I'll toss the complete .zip file from Cathy on that temporary storage and you can get it all. (The one you got is embedded in there too.)

Linky good for about a week: https://we.tl/IyofUqKnjc

Sorry as this may be redundant.   I looked through this whole thread and have not found any Maxis Landmarks like thorK73 asked for above.   Any help for a Windows user?

They're on the STEX still, check this file:

FYI, Plugins are not unique to the Mac or Windows version of SC4, any file that works for one, will work with the other. The main issue for Mac users is when such files are inside an .exe or Windows installer, since Mac's can't run such things. However, this issue is as old as the game itself and can be solved by running the installer in Windows and copying the files over. Or using a third party application such as File Juicer to extract the data.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

It would be good to link the MoofishPro upload of Maxis DLCs in the Maxis Files for SimCity 4 page.   I just downloaded it and it unzips fine with winzip for Windows.   I suppose just the copyright notice would need to be added on the page.
