For some strange ive been wishing i was alive in the 60s lately. It seems the period from 1963-1972 would be the time i would of enjoyed. it seems that the 60s were a time of revolution, a time of individuality, and just a exiting time to be young in.

I guess 1946 would be a good year for me to be born in, because id be in my late teens/early 20s in the 60s. i mean, i wouldent be a hippy,  there were other things, like the Mod scene circa 1963-4, Garage Rock in 1965 and the Warhol Avant garde scene, wich produced the Velvet Underground in 1966. and there was the weird experimental stuff around 1968, like Michael Yonkers. London would be a cool city to be born in, because it had a huge music scene, and the UK wasent in Vietnam.

anyone here also feel alienated by the stupid, boring, homogonous 2000s? or wish there were alive in a different time?

The 90s were great, and I do agree about the sterility, and homogeneousness of modern times; However, this era that I was born in seems to be good enough for me, with the advancements in technology, and such. But, for the purpose of stying on topic, I'd probably prefer something in the rennaissance, or whatever.

Or, since you did not limit the timeframe to things past, sometime in the future...

Ya know, we might think these times are "boring", but the 2000's is a time of international change, just like any other decade. Our descendents might yearn to know what its like to be the first generation born in the computer age. We are going to be running into kids who will be younger than the current incarnation of the internet. Domestically, there is of political strife (as seen from the elections and currently issues) of a different nature than perhaps what we've seen in the 60's and 70's.  You might not know when the next hot button issue might put people into the streets protesting. I think these times are exciting (and scary) .  Also, the nature of technology has kinda forced us to no longer look at our generation soley within the confines of our respective borders, but globally. Never before have teens around the world been in contact with each other on such a scale, sharing beliefs and ideas (look at ST!!). We are in a revolution right now, and who knows what this revolution might turn into in just a decades time.

I'd go for the 1950's or so. Soda in glass bottles, early rock music, cool cars with those big fins... ahhh...nostalgia

I think the 80s sound fun... I was only alive for 2 years of them. although I couldn't live without today's technology.

irrespective of the era, the best time of your life is when you are a child, growing into adulthood..everything else is just scenery.

I was born in 1970 so the 80's were "my time"....shoulder pads, leg warmers, men wearing make up, the music, the Home Computer (oh yeah, SimCity was first released in the 80's) and the Rubiks Cube...but we also had the Miners Strike, massive unemployment, high inflation, the murder of John Lennon, The Cold War and a couple of real wars thrown in. Nostalgia is just selective memory.

I would wish to be born around the 60's to live the 80's VERY BIG. And also I kind of have a wish to know how the life during the Middle Ages was in "First person view".

Probably 1961. Just to see the 70's first hand and all the great music as well as the moon landing and all the big events.

I had to comment as I was born in 1946, the 60's were all that and more, if you had been male in the US in the 60's and not in school you would have been drafted and sent to Viet Nam, or left the states or attempted suicide (as a friend of mine did) to get a deferment.  You might have gone to the south to help register voters, you might have "tuned in" and "dropped out" you might have protested the war at Kent State, or you might have been a 'normal' teen and done none of those things.  You wouldn't have had a PC or the Internet or video games, or email, IM, cell phones, etc.  Although I wouldn't want to be born now I do envy you guys that have grown up with computers and understand how they work and what they do and are comfortable enough with them to try new and different things.  Just remember one thing "The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence!"

I don't think the time I would want to live in the most has happened yet. If and when it happens, I'll tell you.

1945-1946, just to see the end of the WWII and the start of the Cold War.

Born? Eh dunno, but there are plenty of eras that I would to like to visit or revisit for a short period of time. There a lot of historical events and people I'd like to see and witness firsthand. Otherwise I like the present b/c it's fun seeing what's around the corner for the first time.

I like when I grew up, cause I'm a computer nut, and they were starting to take off right around the time that I was old enough to start learning about them. That might explain why I like them so much. 3.gif

I was born in 1976 and, like you, I don't remember life before a computer.  We got our first around 1980 or 1981, I think.  It's been a mainstay of my life ever since.  I don't remember much of anything from before I was 5.  3.gif

Still, I would like to have been born around 2100 or so.  Humans are still too primitive for me at this time.

@Joesocwork: judging from youre love of classic films, 1910-1950 seems like a time youd like to live in, i can see you being an 1895 baby, if i was born in 1946, you could be my grandfather! but than again, im not you, so who knows.

@youre adress here: Steve harris was born in 1956, and formed Maiden at age 19 in 1975, so if you were born in 1956, and i was born in 1946, i could be youre older cousin who turns you on to cool music in 1969!!!

@fred_ginger: woah, you were born in the exact year i want to be born in!! what was it like experiencing the summer of love, the birth of hard rock, and the moon landing as a young person?

the 60s just seem a time when revolution was in the air, people could be free, not to mention, you could turn on Mainstream Rock radio, and hear decent music!!! i look through Life Magazine archives, at the Mods, The Rockers, The Movies, The movies, the TV shows and i just say Woah!, i wish i was alive than.

I'd like to have been born in the early '80s... that way I'd remember the Oilers in their heyday. Being born in the late 80s just doesn't cut it. 2.gif The mid 50s would be cool as well.. not sure when else I'd like to be born. Maybe sometime in the future... 2088, 100 from when I was born? 3.gif

Only for some of us.  I couldn't have been free.

For many of us, the revolution is just getting started.

    Oy, tough question...

Prague in 1400, Geneva in 1520, or Edinburgh in 1530...that would take me to an adult in 1420, 1540, or 1550...times I can only dream of...34.gif Those were the true revolutions, and they continue today...barely...

Modernity isn't that bad...I'm very happy with where I am....but those are days that will never return...or at least, are unlikely to...

Alternatively, if I dare say it, Jerusalem around the turn of history...

Interesting topic. The American Gold Rush appeals to me for some reason. But I wouldn't want to live in an outlaw town like in the films, just a nice town in the desert. I think it's the idea of adventure around this period... Building railways across a desert? Crazy but cool! Panning for gold? Score!

It would be interesting to live where I live now in the Romans era, because we basically ran around naked wearing only war paint and weeds! Plus we would get to see the Romans off.... at least, they'd put up a wall because they were scared of us! 3.gif

So, either USA Gold Rush, Scotland in the Clan times... or.... Japan when they had the Samurai warriors.... that would be awesome!

Difficult, I would like to see for myself some past events but I would not like to live in earlier times, the lack of computers would be annoying. The only other time apart from now that I might like to live in is the future, but long before the human race gets wiped out if it ever does.

    Well...let me see....

Many know I feel this time frame i was born into is too fast and too crazy....

I long for a simple time....

So I'd want to live during the late 1860's in the Kingdom of Magyars or the Austro-Hungarian Empire.I'd live on a simple farm and hopefully I'd fall in battle during WW1 fighting for the Axis.

Or maybe live in  the early 1890's in Russia or Poland so I could live during the Revolution in Russia.

Also I'd probably want to be born in 1947 or just a little bit after WW2 so I could be a young man during the 60's....either in America or in England.....yeh...England....but only cuase Hungary would be a mess and no where else in Europe would be better then England.I'd live to see the rise of Metal bands and Death Metal in the 80's and see bands like Carcass!

I'd only be in my 30 or 40's by then....

All I have against this time period is that its to technology based and not based on much else....

As time moves forword.... everything will be machine or computer run....

    hmmm yep...I'd be a farmer....LOL
