Hey guys! Just to let you know I recently bought and put together a new computer,...

Intel Dual Core 2.13Ghzx2

2 Gig Ram

GForce 7900GS

320 Gig SATA HD

So it will be a short while before I can properly transfer the files from the old one to the new. Once I get all the old programs installed (especially 3DS MAX) then more content will be coming out soon. Something special about having more horsepower, I will probably aquire and test the Indigo Renderer - http://www2.indigorenderer.com/joomla/. I plan on using this renderer if it passes some simple Bat4Max test exports. This particular has only one setting "Real" thats it. Its very accurate with Newtonian physics algorithms built in the rendering process - no more fiddling with shadows and stuff. Just render and go.

Like scanline it is not very fast, but with the new horsepower of my new computer I should be able to get some stuff pretty quick. Anyway thanks a lot for your patience.

ok guys. well. new computer. having problems installing simcity. My old cd drives are not refreshing or recognizing the disk 1. so I ordered a whole new drive (DVD burner) should be here in a bit. As soon as SC4 is installed with BAT, I will have the new Y-Stack Public Estate out. I promise.

realistically Mental ray is perfectly fine and it is ONLY 3rd party renderer almost totally compatible with BAT. All others I know of like V-ray, Final renderer will have issues with night rendering, as they do not accept Max color tinting. There are ways around it, and it ultimately may produce FAR superior night view, but some alteration of the script would be necessary, plus this new night look would only be visible for the period of "night" when lights are on...

Hrmm... Well I have played around with Mental ray a little but I didn't like the results. I will go through your Lighting and Shadow tut and see if I can get some better results - right now I've noticed my shadow-side of the exports are not dark enough - see Gordon Liu House for an example.

bixel, when was that pic taken? When I was in HK back in the November 2006, Phase 7 was not that tall. I am impressed that the tower is building at a good clip. Thanks for the pic update!!!! The original Harbourside was fine in my opinion. But I can't wait!

Believe it or not, Intel's Core 2 line is the best thing on the market. The QX6600 is the best of the bunch of course, being quad-core, but the Duo's are no slouch either. The bottom of the line Core 2's even give the top of the line AMD chips a run for their money.

That doesn't mean the AMD chips are BAD, but they've got nothing on Core 2 at the moment.

As you can see there is a substancial difference from the old and the new. This is just a 'normal' default camera rig render. Going to add more stuff to the roof. The colors are matching the actual building better now, but I am still poking around trying to find a better texture solution with the windows and glass, see above the photo for reference.

So far it looks ALOT better but more work is needed.

Well, glass is awfully green/blue... it may look like that when it is looked at from down up (due to blue sky reflecting in it) but from this angle it should be much more muted, muddier colors. I still think you go to light on the bases. In really those pedestals are huge! They would be considered major buildings on its own right, it's just the towers on top deny them this claim to fame.

BTW new version is a Markable improvment!! :-)
