So, I found myself with some time on my hands and have gone from 78 to 105 tiles (151 remaining) complete on my handcarved region (Currently going by Parish County):

Large image is here.

The central area is probably going to become a "central massif" type area of higher terrain, hills, mountains and canyons with some valleys dropping to sea level.  Either way, I'll be starting on that shortly.

I added a florida keys type area (at a basic level) in the east, along with a nice sweeping potential beach area near it.  Wonder if when I begin to build there if it'll go the way I think at this point in time.

Yes, doing it all by hand. Its quite fun, I find myself getting into a flow with it and suddenly I have done 5 or 6 tiles and time has flown by.

I have tried the landscapers & terraformers programs in the past, but was never happy with the results, so returned to the tried and true by hand methods.

If there is a way to make a greyscale of the map I will be sure to do so.

Also, I had a productive afternoon/early evening and got a further 23 tiles done and dusted.

Importantly I got the central massif area out of the way, not 100% sure about it - mostly on how 1 particular mountain looks over 4 tile corners.  But as far as the height stepping goes, it looks pretty solid.  it drops at its south end into an area that is going to be full of lakes, big and small as well as a few areas of hills - steep or otherwise.

Found a graphical "cheat" to let me make it look like my rivers go underground: run rivers into a canyon/cliff on the side of a hill system, then run out further down out the system. So that whole area is going to be fun to craft when I sit down with it.

Anyway, here you go, this is 128 tiles out of the 256 total:

Hey folks wanted to post an update on my region n ask for some advice, So i been messing with ways to connect all these cities both future and old medieval n  came to the conclusion that the only way to do that is force a rapid transit thru each area. Thing is i wanna make it seem like the future guys created this for the benefit of others n im totally bent on using the ATEX tubes. Im havin the roughest time getting it 2 work tho, specially on the bends. I basically made a tunnel then chopped the middle out by flattening the terrain but when i get to bends trying ridiculous things, ive managed to get 1 method wrking w is hiding the rail underneath the models but i really want to make it look nice. Anyway lemme know if u guys have any suggestions, thanks a bunch.  Oh n by the way im going for a lobster looking island train station thing lol. Well guys, some good and some bad news.

Good News, here's a full shot of Crestview!

pa9.png

Bad news, all my files got corrupt and the whole region is lost forever. :(

I will probably start a new city sometime in the coming weeks, but I have appreciated all of your comments. :)

This is my region I've been working on since about May 1st. The grid design is inspired by Southern Minneapolis and parts of Boise. The map is Death Valley (on the STEX). Anywhere that was flat is a grid, and once I got into the hills I started followed the features of the land as organically as possible. I really like how it looks so far and comments/critiques on realism and aesthetics are appreciated!

Here's the latest update of my region, just about to breach 50k population at it's 14th decade. 5 city tiles have become 7 cities of development. And finally named all the cities tiles.

And after a week or two since I last posted, I am still working on my 256 large tile hand crafted region.

Currently at 184 tiles:

Large shot can be seen here:

There is a few continuity issues on some of the tiles, but once the entire thing is finished I am going to do a "quick" pass, double check edges and some of the river widths and then actually start playing on it.

And it is all finished - well it was last week - I just need to give each tile I quick pass and some tweaks, but the layout and idea is all done.  Yes the geography isnt totally real world, but with lack of water and different elevations, and so on, I have to make do with what I have. (And I really hate mountains over multiple tiles)
