  1. Show us What you're Working On

I just used irfanview to do it. Very simple and straightforward. Then saved and imported to the game as per usual process.
  2. Show us What you're Working On

Working on a new region after i lost my last big project late last year. I took a new york greyscale and rotated/flipped it and am now slowly building it up. Lots of small rural centres across tiles, some interconnectivity happening as I feel the need. Album is here: https://imgur.com/a/fjT8dFU and main region looks like this so far:

Long time user, first time uploader here guys. If any of you have followed the last few pages of the "Show us your - Region" thread, you will have seen a small number of posts in there from me. I basically have handcrafted a 256 LARGE (16 x 16) tile region from scratch over the past few months and this is the end result. It has a variety of terrain from rivers to lakes to coasts to mountains and hills, a considerable amount of variation for any budding mayors out there. It is in no way geologically perfect, but for the needs of a SimCity mayor it will do perfectly I am sure. I know it is going to meet my own long term needs. It feels especially suited to natural styles of city building that I myself prefer. So to reiterate in closing this is a 16 x 16 large tile map, with an attached config file - that needs renaming from Parish County-config.bmp to config.bmp. The file itself is an SC4 Mapper file, so you will require that tool to install and play on this map.

I like to build naturally, so it should end up with several major metro areas as well as the usual suburban infill and rural areas.

And it is all finished - well it was last week - I just need to give each tile I quick pass and some tweaks, but the layout and idea is all done. Yes the geography isnt totally real world, but with lack of water and different elevations, and so on, I have to make do with what I have. (And I really hate mountains over multiple tiles) Full Size: https://i.imgur.com/HTjWhbI.jpg

And after a week or two since I last posted, I am still working on my 256 large tile hand crafted region. Currently at 184 tiles: Large shot can be seen here: https://i.imgur.com/jdmd5sc.jpg There is a few continuity issues on some of the tiles, but once the entire thing is finished I am going to do a "quick" pass, double check edges and some of the river widths and then actually start playing on it.

If there is a way to make a greyscale of the map I will be sure to do so. Also, I had a productive afternoon/early evening and got a further 23 tiles done and dusted. Importantly I got the central massif area out of the way, not 100% sure about it - mostly on how 1 particular mountain looks over 4 tile corners. But as far as the height stepping goes, it looks pretty solid. it drops at its south end into an area that is going to be full of lakes, big and small as well as a few areas of hills - steep or otherwise. Found a graphical "cheat" to let me make it look like my rivers go underground: run rivers into a canyon/cliff on the side of a hill system, then run out further down out the system. So that whole area is going to be fun to craft when I sit down with it. Anyway, here you go, this is 128 tiles out of the 256 total: Large Version

Yes, doing it all by hand. Its quite fun, I find myself getting into a flow with it and suddenly I have done 5 or 6 tiles and time has flown by. I have tried the landscapers & terraformers programs in the past, but was never happy with the results, so returned to the tried and true by hand methods.

So, I found myself with some time on my hands and have gone from 78 to 105 tiles (151 remaining) complete on my handcarved region (Currently going by Parish County): Large image is here. The central area is probably going to become a "central massif" type area of higher terrain, hills, mountains and canyons with some valleys dropping to sea level. Either way, I'll be starting on that shortly. I added a florida keys type area (at a basic level) in the east, along with a nice sweeping potential beach area near it. Wonder if when I begin to build there if it'll go the way I think at this point in time.
  11. Great tool for making city names

Oh I do like that. When it comes to naming things, I go as real as I can, even down to grabbing from towns and villages here in the UK. However that site is going to make getting inspiration that much better - or even flat out using a few when I eventually get my handcrafted region finished and ready for settlement.
  12. Show us your Region!

I am working on hand-crafting this region. Its taken a few weeks so far - in between work, sleep, and other games. Having some fun playing around with different features, so its not 100% geologically perfect, but it will do the job. Its a 16 x 16 large tile and I am currently sat at 78 completed tiles. 13. Show us What you're Working On

Been a very long time since I posted on ST, but with all the furor surrounding SC2013, I went back to my SC4 install and for a week or so have been working on this: Its only a small part of a 16 x 16 large tile region. As of 2 minutes ago, I have changed a part of it as I did not like it. I am also slowly starting on towns and villages in it as I go, but mostly doing the terraforming.
  14. Windowed Mode Problem

Just a quick thanks for this post. Recently decided to spend some time playing this - online gaming has gotten old to be honest - and wanting to run windowed at a custom res was throwing me alot, to find the answer within one page of posts and for it to work right away - AWESOME!
  15. What's your catch phrase?

"Lush. Totally lush" Not a clue where I picked it up, but its my "phrase" now
