Dear Sir,

 

 

It has come to the attention of this office that you are under petition to enact certain ordinaces to control the farming community.  While this office has been and will always be a staunch supporter of the environment, I would like to remind you that enacting any ordinace, is in fact a taxation.  We must not forget that the farmers of this fine communtiy are the backbone of our fair region.  We must further understand that to slow this essential industry down would, in fact, hinder our growth.  Today's Agricultural Providers face a much more difficult task of providing for their community and more importantly their families. 

 

This office is in no way opposed to further growth in the residential and/or commercial sectors, I would just urge you to balance the growth with an emphasis on long term growth and not short term  revenue collection.

 

So in conclusion Sir, I would implore you to study all the effects, short term and long term, that any ordinace against the farming communtiy would create.  I look forward to continuing to serve this community and this administration.

FullStrength: That's a really good idea, I want to thank you for bringing it to my attention. Perhaps a complex with soccer fields, baseball diamonds, some playgrounds, all connected by pine trails? I'd like to know your opinion on this, reply with a response ASAP.

dhoppeii: I appreciate your concern, but I highly doubt that anti-water pollution ordinances would have much effect on the farming community. Some farms may have to refrain from using insecticides and such, but that's not too big a problem. If any ordinances are enacted that affect farms negatively, I'll be sure to counter them with a positive one, or if there are none available, a tax cut. No worries, muchacho!

Well, an update did come tonight, despite my 30% chance prediction!

CHAPTER 20-ONCE AGAIN, FROM THE HOSPITAL

Well, it turns out that last time was a false alarm. Still, they have insisted that Elizabeth remain at the hospital, which leaves me stuck with this laptop. Oh well...

Anyways, Montauk Downs has continued to get bigger and bigger, now almost at 1000 residents. Plenty more farms have developed, along with a new neighbourhood, McArthur.

This is a render done of McArthur while it was still in the planning stages. Already not bad looking...


And the finished product. Medium-wealth housing, a library, and some shops, including a Starbucks!


The new Despatie Recreational Complex is named for Gaston Despatie, the founder of Despatie Exotic Crops. DEC provides the 2nd most jobs in Montauk Downs, right behind the juggernaut of Brooks Floral Agriculture. There are basketball courts, tennis courts, walking trails, baseball fields and a soccer field. It's a great experience for the athletically inclined.


And, the McArthur neighbourhood centre. The local clinic, library, and shops are all located here. It's a vibrant place to be in a vibrant neighbourhood.


Since we last checked in, Meredith Brooks has further expanded her portfolio, now with a yellow lily farm. This one, built on a major slope, has almost directly upright retaining walls made of cobblestone.


The Despatie banana farm has been very successful, due to the fact that people wanted some change from the Brooks monopoly. Their bananas are very good, and using the heatray technology also seen in Alaska, they can grow bananas normally in the frigid northern British Columbia climate.


Also, some high-tech industry has moved into Montauk Downs, southwest of the AAA. Dell, Sony, and Bose have all established factories in the Montauk Industrial Park, and reportedly, there may soon be an addition to the park.


And, another Despatie farm, this time growing sugarcane. If there is more interest in sugarcane in the area, it is rumoured that the Blackbeard Rum Co. could establish a distillery.


And, featured recently in a Channel 5 human interest story, the Spruill bean farm. A year ago, the Spruill's oldest son Hank came down with leukemia, so his father Jerry left his job at a taco stand to get into the bean business, where he thought would be more profits. The family has raised $50,000 to date, and Hank is scheduled for an operation at Parker Memorial Hospital in 2 months.


Montauk Downs, despite its growth, has maintained that small-town charm that everybody loves. Not too far from the big city, Montauk Downs is a farmer's dream, a Utopia of rural living.

Dear sir,

I must congratulate you (again) on your fantastic job on Montauk, our lovely town has become a great place for everyone to live, not in the least place because of our brand new sports park! I am very happy you didn't just made one field, but at least 6 basketball courts, 4 tennis courts, a baseball and a soccer field! You understand that I, as the minister of recreation feel very spoiled right now! Some questions have been raised if this isn't too much for a small town like this, but I believe these sport accomodations are for the people's own good, and with accomodations like this we can pick up our town's growth for years! I would suggest you continue this way, and I promise to give you a call when I think our town could need something new. For now you have to excuse, as I would like to try out our new soccer field.

All: Update right now! 3 part text update coming, chronicling the birth of Carlea...a big twist.

CARLEA 1-BIRTH

I sat in the emergency room, patiently waiting for Nurse Gonzales to call my name over the P.A. system. The cloth sparsely spared on the hard cedar frame could not support my anxiety for long. I started pacing nervously across the room, the back and forth motion calming me.

Steven Parker to Room 307, Steven Parker to Room 307. Nurse Gonzales's accented Cuban voice crackled and spit over the ancient P.A. system. I slowly mounted the stairs, 1 foot in front of the other. It was like learning how to walk all over again: my knuckles translucent on the railing from gripping it so tightly, my feet quaking in my Nikes as one foot slowly approached each step, followed eventually by the next.

Once again, Nurse Gonzales's clear tone rumbled along the wires, reaching my ears via the Stone Age speakers; Steven Parker, you are urgently needed in Room 307, Steven Parker in Room 307 ASAP. And thus, my quaking feet moved a little speedier, up and up the stairs, to Room 307.

I cautiously peeked through the door, not awaiting the vision in front of me as I entered, not knowing what my beloved Elizabeth had been through, not knowing what would become of our neonatal joy, Carlea...

Looking forward to the birth! I should also comment on the previous images of Montauk Downs. McArthur, with the combination of regular streets and the red ones, indeed looks quite vibrant, as you stated. The farms built into the slopes with the cobblestone sides look just gorgeous. And I'm always happy when I see industrial parks.

The farms cut into the slopes were fun to do, because it was interesting to see how powerful the CSX Sloping Mod is...and I'm with you on the fact that industrial parks are cool. I just downloaded a bunch of high-tech/maunfacturing BATs from an expert, prepo, so the next version will probably look even better. Thanks for your comment!

All I've seen in this page alone, seems really interesting, that little rural community is really great looking. And I guess that the Starbucks parking lot is made that way so the pilots can see it from afar!

Amd what I've read so far compells me to read it from the beginning.

So, whith your permission, I'll find some free time, and try to read something like a page or two a day, and then comment, though at the speed this CJ grows I hope I wont be too far behind you!

I see that Starbucks has even invaded McArthur. Now if it was down here in Washington, you'd need to have another one of `em two blocks away. Heck, by me they even converrted a closed down Burger King into a Starbucks, and anither one lost 40% of its business due to the new one.

CARLEA 2-UNTITLED

I tiptoed into the delivery room, not awaiting what my Elizabeth would look like, or what had happened. Dr. Chamberlain, the head of the delivery staff, told me that everything was going fine, and birth was expected within the hour. A slow sigh of relief escaped my lips as I sunk into a chair across from the washroom.

Minute after minute passed, and the wait was roasting me alive, like being strapped onto a firelog and thrown into hot coals. Suddenly, all the doctors rushed over to Elizabeth, whose breathing rate had increased rapidly. Dr. Chamberlain checked to see if her cervix was dilated enough (10 cm is the minimum) and calmly told her, Mrs. Parker, you can push now, your cervix has dilated the 10 cm necessary. Elizabeth took a breath and heaved with all her might.

Uunhh...unhhhh....aaaahhhh! Her screams filled the room, and I shivered with the fact that she was in pain. The comedian Carol Burnett once said that having a baby was like taking your lower lip and stretching it up over your head, and seeing Elizabeth like this made me confirm the claims....

Finally, the screaming subsided, and I looked away for fear of injury, or worse. Dr. Chamberlain held up his hands joyously, and to my surprise, with a baby in them! Mr. and Mrs. Parker, it's a girl. I collapsed from my chair onto the floor, praying to God that the rest of the way would be fine.

I expected to see Elizabeth happy as well, but not so. She appeared to have trouble breathing, and the noises she was making were quite discomforting...
