crazy... was that a "real nice, you should have a cj because your stuff is good"

or maybe was it "stop spamming the thread with your pictures and just get a cj already" ? 3.gif

Yeah... I don't rate much, if at all, not sure why. I prefer to give feedback that will help instead of a number.

Oh, and camaron, late winter/early spring, there will be PLENTY more in the cj i'm planing. 2.gif

Here I am again with my $%&^! Maxis pic... (I <3 Maxis 3.gif ) I hope I don't annoy anyone. I just updated a bit, got rid of the farms (except one) and got rid of industry (except like three big buildings in one spot).

Now has a lot more high wealth commercial and a few more high wealth apartments, plus retaining walls which I just got.

The pictures before mine get an 8.5, all of them. 4.gif

tbone04044: Looks alright to me, the sea walls have come out nicely, 8/10.

TheSixCents: Well themed and detailed, I like it, 9/10.

Variant: Getting better, some of the buildings are a little repetitive but as you get more custom content that problem will fix itself, 8/10.

tbone, *looks at the water and flops over dead* too, blue, having, seizure!!! 3.gif

thesixcents, ditch the paris buildings. too white and they don't fit. also, it would be nice if there were a few diferent versions of that brick walkup, the roofs are far too repeditive, but the building itself is quite nice, where did you get it?

variant, like the others, getting there. res skysraper to the left has to come down, but nice job on having a bit of nice flat, with the normal bumpy unteraformed look most ubernoobs have. download some bsc parks and buddybud's/jeronjis concrete wall set, and see what you can make out of it 2.gif

Last image. That place looks lonely, partially because of the unpleasing gaps in between the city districts. For now only 8/10

Plasticboy: Too cool! Great lighting effects!

The only thing that drags down abit is those pesky map-edges, but I guess there's nothing you can do abot that. 9/10

aaronperry. What does your personal taste toward the urban density have to do with the aesthetic quality of an image itself?

I'll back him by saying that I've noticed you tend to rate upon your tastes, not how it is in general. To me, I think that he has anything outside the dome is stupid, I think it should be used as a protective sort of thing, but thats just me. Instead I comment on how it was approached and handled.

LP. You just proved my point with your last post. Rating someone else's in-game screenshots makes very little sense, because it will all depend on whether each participant is having a good day. I'm not even going to start debating about what the aestheticism is, because this a whole new topic. Moreover, without knowing the background story of an image, one almost always ends up in a cultural script ditch. LP take a look at my CJ, read through the whole story on the first page, and then post your findings about how knowing the background story helped you to better understand author's motivations behind the composition of the image.

PS. Never use words like sucks, stupid, good, better, best... etc.. in your critique, because people will think you're slanted or worse uneducated.

Thanks for the suggestions, seems like people here are pretty nice. 4.gif

I do want to get rid of that tower, it's a ridiculous height for only medium density.

Also I got the walls that you speak of, there's a wall under that tower in the pic.

I'm thinking about getting some parks too.

As far as changing the landscape goes, I don't like doing radical changes, I try to keep it realistic as to when and how much I change it. I shaved off the top of the hill on the right and flattened the valley a bit, and flattened the area on the left. I try to make changes as small as I can get away with unless theres a desperate need to knock down an entire hill or fill in a river or whatever.

Some type of smoothing tool in mayor mode would be nice though to take out small bumps and such, thats pretty commonly done because it's small scale and I wouldn't mind smoothing slopes out a bit.

But you didn't actually give a background when you posted the picture did you? So you can't blame anyone for thinking: Huh, so why  IS the dome there? The rest of  the map seems habitable enough, which makes it look like you just slammed that dome down. A picture that doesn't make a lot of sense doesn't get a super high rating. I kind of agree with aaronperry on this one.

If you don't want your screenshot to be rated, why put it in this thread?

PS. Never use words like sucks, stupid, good, better, best... etc.. in your critique, because people will think you're slanted or worse uneducated.quote>

That remark is stupid. People will think you are slanted? In a thread where you are asked to give an honest opinion of pictures? So the hell what?

PS. Never post condescending remarks like this, especially if they don't make any sense at all.

TheSixCents: I like the rowhomes but they seem a little out of place: 7/10

I haven't played in a while, so here's an old rural pic:

waway625- Yeah, i did use photoshop... thing is i did so much to that particular pic it would take me a day to write out how to get the same effect. All of it is just subtle, tiny changes to the quality of the picture and different colours to make it look less cheery and more grimey.
