El Burro: Looking good! Great mix of different buildings. Only thing I have to say is that those retaining walls are perhaps a little overused. You should experiment with working with sloped terrain. It can give great results! 8/10

Interesting pic, El Burro, I'm not sure that I can rate it. It does have a lot of walls but I can't decide if that's a bad thing. 3.gif

Here's one I grabbed a few minutes ago, showing off my train and my terrible road designs.

It's junk so feel free to give it a 1... It was just kind of hard to snake that train through without demolishing a lot of buildings so I'm proud of it for some reason.

Also note the two houses in the lower left... you'll notice that the houses are inside the ground and have their foundations on top of the roof! These houses have stood there like that for over 200 game years and I thought it was kinda cool. And that weird road layout was originally designed to preserve a forest, which you can see part of, but then I decided to run a train through it...

England... eh? Hmm... must be the Football ground. Plus, I love my retaining walls... you'll never take them away! 3.gif

Thorin- Nice pic. Have to say that Piccadilly Circus billboard thing seems a little out of place there, but nice job on the parks. What walls are those by the way? If i'm going to diversify I might as well start by using those, heh. 8/10

Variant- Welcome to Simtrop, and this killer thread. Good effort on the pic, i'm guessing you ain't downloaded much so i'll be fair. Its good to see its spaced out, not crammed together... one thing that looks horrible is building on slopes, try and cover the bare bits of hillside with some tree's. 7/10

jessghs- Why did Maxis make sooooo many of thier buildings blue? Or a shade of blue? The taskbar's blue why does everything else need to be??? Damn Maxis. Anyway... as you can tell... emm... everything in that pic is Maxis stuff... probably more that any one person could take in. It seems like a very successful city though, I can't see any dilapidated or abandoned buildings. Good job. 7.5/10

.::Edit::.

He seemed to have removed his pic... lolol.

Yeah, I have industry next to commercial mainly because it's what I'm used to 4.gif

I do separate it, like out of view in that city is a big downtown commercial area, then there's some industrial areas, but where I live there's a lot of mixed zoning like you see in my pic. There will be like some high tech or manufacturing factories, then right next door will be an office complex, then next to that there's commercial services, then somewhere you might find apartments, then it turns into low density residential... it's crazy.

el burro, nice slums... the "revitalization efforts" common with most slums can be seen with the hiroshima buildings. gotta tell ya though, it would SUCK without the soccer stadium

thorin, simple, good editing, and nice buildings

variant, very noobish 3.gif poor teraforimg, not very good zoning... but eh, play around with it

the sanderson, better, but sheesh... talk about a low quality BAT

el burro, again with the slums, awesome. polution, grunginess, tenements... perfection

And... I got nothing. Been doing a bit of this'n that, nothing interesting enough to show.

Cool, Burro!

Sanderson, that pic reminds me a little of SC2K... at night. With more detailed buildings. I like it for that reason.

And yes, I am a $%&^!. 3.gif Observe:

The_sanderson: It's hard to see anything, and small. 5/10

Variant: It's good, but some terraforming is needed. I don't like how the farms are in the city.

capitol: Not much going on, a bit plain. I don't like how the trees are like on the highway. 6/10

Well, I have a picture I was working on today, Don't rate, but please tell me what I need to improve because it's going on my CJ.

Thanks for the comments. 4.gif

I don't really like the farms either, I've just been lazy about phasing them out...

I like to grow my cities in phases, I usually start out with farms and a few houses, then when I let more sims in, industry starts to come in also so some farms might get phased out one by one. Then I add education and services slowly and manufacturing comes in, phasing out dirty industry and more farms gradually. I like to pretend that sims that own their land don't want to give it up, so I build in open spaces until I run out and then start redeveloping... kinda like buying out the farmers gradually. I'll probably keep one original farm as a historical site and get rid of the rest, those farms are over 300 years old.

capitol1: Very nice pic, I like how that building kind of fits the highway angle. I want to give it a 7.

ilikehotdogs: That pic looks awesome. I personally wouldn't change anything, but I'm just a newbie.

The water tower is a nice touch. What's the tall skinny tower? Lights?

Variant- Not bad, abit too maxis-ie for my tastes though. 6/10

Capitol1- Nice shot. Seems abit undeveloped though plus, the trees on the highway spoil the shot 7.5/10

Ilikehotdogsalot- Wow, like the feel to that picture. I can't see anything wrong with in, and if I was gonna rate, i'd give it a 9 3.gif

Ah, same old same old from me-

the sanderson, stop relying so much on editing and focus more on city building please

variant, dude, ubernoob 3.gif

capitol1, nice layout and use of custom content. the trees IN the highway and the ground texture are a good bit of a putoff though

ilikehotdogsalot, ditch the lighting tower, and thats an awesome shot

el burro, way cool use of the walls. the rail slope and the NAM bridge kinda... well... suck. few buildings don't belong there either like the modern loft with the UK rowhomes

ilikehotdogsalot: Picture 1: Nice picture of Big Ben but the fire effects do not look quite right, 7/10. Picture 2: I can see nothing wrong with it, I like the the use of grey-scale.

LP: Simple but good, gives a nice contemporary atmosphere, 9/10.

El Burro: Picture 1: Nice, the walls are good, well themed too, England or not, 8/10. Picture 2: Well created slum look, good graphics, 8/10. Picture 3: I like the way you have given that picture a point of focus, 8/10.

Variant: Welcome to SimTropolis Picture 1: Good attempt, one recommendation is to hide the panel when taking shots, 6/10. Picture 2: Once the farms are gone you will have a good looking city, 7/10.

capitol1: The triangular building and sea walls are good, 8/10.

    pg 40

El Burro oo very nice not sure on football stadium maybe to modern looking however a nice terraced one would look good. 7/10

Thorini think maybe only designed for a city centre not open planned 6/10

Variant keep glued to this thread to see how top raters use skills to improve there ratings 4/10

The_sanderson bigger pics needed, thier is nothing going on 6/10

El Burro nice pond above higway tunnel interst not practical but interesting 7/10

    pg 41

The_sanderson cant really see much 5/10

Variant i like it maybe add more avariation in tress and remove toolbar's 5/10

capitol1 personal opinion building looks lifeless..... 6/10

ilikehotdogsalot top right road layout not for me 8/10 i will rate!!

El Burro nice long train well done, not sure on nam use looks odd and ruins whole image. . like the ramp down for the trains but u would never have a rail junction like that, and never next to houses without large trees or fences blocking sound.  6/10

I don't know where do you live, maybe you're American, but I haven't seen a city a Europe yet, that's so largely open planned. Mixtures, different styles, not the same boring structures one near eachother. And my Manteria is pure Europe, mainly Italy. 2.gif

Sepsis- You acctually inspired me to get rid of those other sidewalk textures and use that one instead. The red sidewalks are horrible. Great shot of that cathedral... or church, or abby... whatever it is, lol... the sidewalk textures blend well with the paths leading to it. 8.5/10

El Burro: Nightlighting looks good. I like the train overpass and the monument, too. 9/10.

sepsis, dude... i can just see the air raid now... nice job with the sidewalks

el burro, real nice nightlighting, lower right and upper right don't look good though, basically the use of zones in both cases

having those loveley ups and downs of ploping large new areas... got a few development shots though. these aren't for rating, just to show what i'm working on.
