Florida Beach  1.0

About This File

This is a map made from USGS data of a random Florida beach, which I then cut and pasted a little bit to make it slightly more interesting. It's very flat, but the straight beach should be easy to cover with beaches for a nice beach resort town.

Looks like Florida. It's just as flat as it should be. Driven this strip many times. Adding hills as stated above would subtract from the realism. The only things missing wall to wall people and a hurricane, lol! 10!

I live near Ft. Lauderdale, FL. After rendering, just be sure to cover every area of the mainland with VERY DENSE trees and many, many canals (BSC brick canals maybe?). Birch and Noble would probably look closest to the Cypress, Maleluka, Australian Pine, Black Olive, and "southern pine" that congests every undeveloped area and blankets even many areas of metros. Palm trees? Only naturally occuring ones are by the beach. The rest are added along Avenues (which are 6-8 lane).

I'm actually from the little sliver off the beach of florida right there and this is a pretty good scale of this section of Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, Cape Canaveral and such. Thanx for an awesome map

Yeh I must be not doing this right cuz NOTHING is loading. I downloaded the config file. I opened SC4 and created a New Region that was just plains and labeled it Miami. I then exited SC4. I opened up the Region folder, there is NO FOLDER for Miami, but your tip said just REGION and not REGION/name of folder. So I dragged the config.bmp I downloaded above to just the REGION folder (no subfolder). Exited, then started the game and opened up the plains Miami folder on the game...and nothing. It is still just plains. Please tell me what I am doing wrong, take it step by step, overexplain it if you have to like you are telling a 6 year old. Thanks.

I've reviewed this map file and the grayscale image and config.bmp are the correct dimensions. Please follow the instructions in this article in the Omnibus for Installing a Region Downloaded from the STEX.

Vandy,

The concerns people are posting are very real. When attempting to render the .jpg an error message states that the .jppg file must be 1024x1024 pixels and the size of the included .jpeg is 513x769.

I, of course, realize that regions in SimCity 4 are not square, but rather rectangles. I have successfully rendered regions in the past using the same step by step instructions illustrated in the provided link. I also take note of the posting detailing the successful rendering and don't really know how to follow his example. I do not know what I'm doing wrong, have you or anyone else succeed in rendering this map in game?
