Planned as part of The Führer's dream world capital of "Germania," it is a replica of the public hall called "Volkshalle", the perceived symbol of that region. This repllica is much smaller in scale than the planned facility itself.

A fiictional version of the model Volkshalle appears in the TV production of The Man in the High Castle. The building also appears in Robert Harris's 1992 novel Fatherland and in the novel In the Presence of Mine Enemies by Harry Turtledove, both of which are alternate history novels  in which Nazi Germany won World War II and in which the Volkshalle was actually built.

It serves as a landmark with employment (120 high-income earners).
