Here is another of Pegasus's originals. This one is the Canal Tool Kit. While it might be considered a predecessor to his currently available Canal Set, it is very different in implementation and appearance. It was also available on PEG's Legacy release. Please keep in mind that this set is not like other canal sets. It is not just 'plop-and-go' as explained in the following instructions. Have fun with it!

OK folks... its time to Get Real! I mean "Real"... as in realistic canals and flood control channels in your cities. Every "real" big city has them. Why not yours?

The PEG Canal Tool Kit is a suite of 10 'building-block' lots that you piece together to design and build canals and flood control channels through your cities. There are two basic styles to choose from; Basic Flood Control and Trail Park Canal. And there are two variations of these styles offering you a choice of having your canals/channels lined with palm trees or not.

These lots are essentially "skins" for canals or channels that you sculpt into your terrain. Using only the Leveling Tool, you can 'dig' canals throughout your city in a matter of minutes. Then, all you do is plop these lots down and they will automatically conform to the contours of the canals you created.

Both the original set and the addon are available in this download.

This original canals consist of the following:

1. canal_4x1.dat
The basic canal piece for straight sections. NO frills. Just concrete walls and a chain-link fence.

2. canal-wp_4x1.dat
The basic canal piece for straight sections... with palm trees.

3. canal-walk_6x1.dat
The basic canal piece for straight sections... with a nice trail park lining both sides.

5. canal-corner_4x4.dat
The basic corner or "L" piece for changing the direction of your canals.

The Addon Pack includes two new lot types to be used with the PEG Canal Tool Kit. Included in this are:

1. "Tee" Sections
Now you can create 'Tees' in your canals and branch them off in different directions. Create an entire network of canals spanning your entire city or region. As always, you have your choice of styles (plain or park)... with or without palm trees.

2. End Sections
Here's the perfect lot for adding that finishing touch to the end of your canals. Available in all flavors... plain & park & palms.

3. Updated "L"/Turn section replacements for the original "L" sections with Trail Park.
The original "L" Trail Park sections required the use of the one-side park section to finish off the turn. These two new "L" sections are slightly larger and create seamless inside-corner park sections... and do not require the one-side park piece.

* These are replacements for the two Trail Park "L" sections only. The standard (plain) "L" sections have not been replaced or updated.

All of these pieces/lots are cheap to buy, cheap to maintain... and provide a notable local park effect and pollution reduction. Once installed, these lots will appear in the Parks Menu.

Installation Instructions:
After unzipping the file, place both sets into your C:\My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins folder. You can install just the ones you want... and freely swap or remove the .dat files at any time without affecting the canal pieces already placed in your cities.

TERRA-SCULPTING NOTES:

* Remember, these are not 'plop-and-go' canals that are similar to other canal sets. There is terraforming involved in getting the terrain ready for use. 
 
* Digging the canals in your terrain is really fairly simple. I suggest using the God Mode (cheat) to save on $$$ but you can create them with the Mayor Mode terrain tools if you wish. I recommend using the leveling tool at size 2 (press SHIFT-2) at view level 4.

* The canals need to be two tiles wide and flat on the bottom with a one tile-wide slope on each  side. The canal must be deep enough so that water appears evenly across the bottom. If the water is too shallow, it will be hard to see. Experiment with the depth until you find a pleasing
appearance.
