About This File

Back with another DEM-based map. This time it is northern Utah, one of the places I went to school. Like my Bozeman region I have omitted the rivers, which are minor and would cause rendering problems with the greyscale. Realism sticklers may complain but I stick with my decision. This region is a bit larger than previous ones, 4x5 large tiles but cut into a rather different configuration. Again, I stick with my config file; I purposefully isolated certain regions to reduce the possibility of a sprawling megaplex. This is the desert after all. Even so there is a lot of potential here for an impressive region, there is a lot of flat terrain to work with. Happy Simming!

I really want to use this terrain, but the grayscale image is *not* square (1025x1281???) and the config file is invalid for SC4 Mapper 2013.

I fixed the irregular resolution on the heightmap, but I don't know how to fix config files.

You shouldn't have to fix anything. It is not a square region, and regions don't have to be. Furthermore, you can render the terrain directly in-game, no need to use Mapper. Just put the terrain and config files in an appropriately named subfolder in the Regions folder of SimCity 4. Then start the game and open the region. It will be blank tiles. Next, type Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R. This will bring up a window. Navigate to the folder with the config and terrain files, and select the terrain file. This will render the region. It will take a little while, maybe 5-10 minutes depending on your computer's performance. Good luck!

Yeah, that worked, but it's so much slower than using SC4 Mapper... which has nothing to do with my computer.

There really isn't any reason maps uploaded shouldn't be compatible with a powerful tool like SC4M that makes it faster and really easy to edit.

It has nothing to do with being square... 1025x1281 isn't a power of 2.

There actually is a reason to upload maps in the format I did. I am playing SC4 on a Mac, so I cannot run Mapper or any of the other map editors. The method I use is the only way I can create or download maps.
