About This File

Colossus Addon Mod - CAM Controller is the popular SimCity 4 mod that involves substantial changes in the RCI (Residential - Commercial - Industrial) simulation as well as essential bugfixes. The mod was developed by the various members of the CAM Team who over time have brought modifications to improve this mod

Please note that this pack may receive updates in the near future. Do not redistribute without asking first, mostly as doing so would complicate efforts to properly maintain, update, and provide technical support for the pack.

Extra feature, if you hover over the folders in the installer, you will get some extra information about each contents

WARNING: From version 2.5 onward Colossus Addon Mod works only with the digital version (1.1.641) of SimCity 4 (Microsfot Windows and Linux only). If you run CAM 2.5 or later on systems different from those listed, the mod may malfunction and no support is provided

MIGRATION:

Migration to CAM 3.0 and later versions can be done if you meet these requirements

  • Players coming from CAM 2.5 can upgrade to CAM 3.0 using only the CAM Controller
  • Players from vanilla can switch to CAM 3.0 using the CAM Controller but must create a new region

Migration to CAM 3.0 and later versions cannot be done if you meet these requirements

  • Players coming from CAM 2.1.1 cannot upgrade to CAM 3.0
  • Players from SPAM cannot switch to CAM 3.0 using only the CAM Controller.
  • Players from vanilla cannot switch to CAM 3.0 if it is used in a developed region
  • Players coming from CAM 3.0 with the CAM-SPAM Controller cannot switch to CAM 3.0 - CAM Controller
  • Players coming from CAM 3.0 with the CAM Controller cannot switch to CAM 3.0 CAM-SPAM Controller

If you are installing CAM starting from these given directions it is discouraged not to use the already developed regions as you may experience compatibility problems with edphics, problems with RCI simualtion so it is strongly advised to create a new region to avoid the problems.

how do you control what loads before/after the other? just alphabetical order?

Yes, that's the basis of loading order.

Maybe this post is useful for more details and a few examples.

thats pretty interesting. i didnt notice in any of the mod instructions about which ones need to override others so how are you supposed to know which order they should go? will anything work if the files/folders arent in the right order?

The exe is telling me it can't find the SC4 path. I have SC4 installed via Steam. Any idea how to fix this?

Apologize if this question has already been asked.  I installed the rural CAM mod and it really helped with my farm growth stages. .  However does this mean it limits my normal commercial and industrial growth in cities that I don't emphasize or have much agricultural?  If it does, how do I get around this?  Can a user do multiple installations?

CAM looks good, and I heard good things about it.

Unfortunately, the installer relies on SC4DatPacker, an old tool which by now is incompatible with modern systems (Windows 10 64bit, at least) out of the box. You're forced to either install old, potentially unsafe DLLs, or jump through a bunch of manual hoops to work around the installer and make the necessary modifications to SC4's primary DAT file yourself.

A bit too tedious for my taste. I suppose I'll have to live with vanilla growth and slap an I-HT fix on it.

I just installed this and when the cleanitol running, it removed one of my dependency, industry-quadrupler-2.dat file from my plugin. I used it for my Industrial Revolution Mod. Is CAM not compatible with the IRM?

Trying to understand CAM (never tried it before) i thought to download and test it. I am reading its installation manual and i am not sure about the followings..

-which install type or types should i choose ?

-does the CAM install type affect just one city or the whole region?

-can i change my CAM install type if i want to play another region with different style?

Thanx

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

just to add ,  finally i read in the manual that the install type IR Fix Only all other install types include this already..so i choosed Extended (InvisiChem) install type , and continue the install , but unfortunately installation has paused in the step of cleanitol file where keep searching without ending..i dont know why?  any help!

1. I went for skyscraper for faster growth after reaching a certain population number.

2. Affect all region in the game.

3. Uninstall and reinstall if want to change game style.

Additional: never happened to me. Try another different gamestyle or clean up your plugins  with cleanitol before trying to install CAM, if second try doesnt work as well.

I experienced the SC4 issue with the installer - What does this do exactly? And what is the manual work around? I continued the installation anyway, ignoring the issue, and played the game. The mod seems to be working as intended - I chose the extended version and have to agree, this definitely feels like the pace the game should be played at. I had to get to maybe 75k region population before I saw my first medium growth building. It actually felt a tad exciting when that little 40 person building grew. I was able to lay out 5 or 6 full cities of all low density, farms, and dirty industry before starting to see any growth through the stages. This version relies on working your way from small cottages to large sky scrapers.

As of CAM 2.5.0, I'm having a weird bug where Maxis utilities that were meant to be unlocked (eg. Nuclear Power Plant, High Density Schools, Chopper Police Station, etc) aren't actually unlocking even if I press "Accept" when prompted. Anyone else had this issue as well?

Nevertheless, great mod and big props to the developers!

I have a few questions regarding the education system because I'm witnessing a weird behavior.

All my cities eventually stagnate around the 120 EQ mark, even though my education is fully implemented, from Elementary to University.
image.png.b8a2d9598e5d3864b8d0fdb746c172e4.png

Then I've checked and noticed that CAM 2.5 uses an education simulator based on xBlaze89x's findings, which I assume to be from this post:

Then, based on what was described there, I checked my city's population age and found that most of them are 40+ years old:
image.png.61eff7a07ffad02ac999505fd9cc52b5.png

Perhaps their age has something to do with the education flatlining?

Also, is there a way to make private schools... private? Even though they're meant to be private, the city still has to fund them, which I find rather... awkward lol

Anyhow, great work with the mod!

Hey, I am curious, will I be able to run this modifier off my windows XP x32 machine? Or am I another victim of the built-in obsolesence train? It is my retro and semi modern machine wit ha dozen sound cards in it (don't ask, I love MIDI)

You can't use CAM 2.5+ on Windows XP because it depends on the DLL Mods to make it work

In education simulation, age plays a key role. If the city has just been founded this behavior is normal. Anyway I will check if there is any problem and if so I will release the patch.

In real life private schools still receive public funds that are invested in maintenance, payment of salaries etc.. The only difference that private schools receive more funds from school fees and donations from private individuals that are invested in improving education.

For the time being, I'll leave it this way, which is a fair compromise between what Maxis has developed and reality

I see. Also, as an edit* to my previous post, my city's education includes a Library and Museum too.

I'd like to point out that my city is 224 years old by the way lol and its education eventually peaked at 170 quite early in its foundation. The educational system was full back then, which would explain the spike I believe.
image.png.7410c811e88b9cb43abf06144305eeaa.png

I've also checked the city's education by age graph (which is something I should've done from the beginning) and even then the education seems rather lackluster, with only the 11-30 cohorts reporting a value slightly above the 120 flatline.
image.png.397c857e9fe553b30c098cbbccbff64e.png

I've also taken a screenshot of my city's education coverage and levels vs residential average age if you need further data:

Regarding the private school, yes I can see sense in that. Wouldn't it be fitting to reduce the costs, however, since the state is merely subsidizing the operation? As it stands, Private Schools cost the state $0.93 per student, whereas the fully state-funded Elementary School costs $0.45 and the High School stands at $0.64. I also find the "Local Limousine Funding" feature quite odd.

Funds play a key role in education. If you have reduced funding then this stagnation is normal. However, I am doing further checking and fixing some things to improve EQ.

For private schools I have to check xml file if I can change some paramenters while for Local Limousine Funding is a satirical thing typical of SimCity 4. Although it is a serious game there are satirical elements of daily life present in the game

But the grade is 5/5, isn't that what's supposed to matter? Funding should only be a problem if the amount of students exceed the school's capacity, no?

And yeah, you're right about the Limousine thing *:D
