About This File

Anyone seen those maps people have made with grayscale images they made in photoshop or downloaded off the internet thinking they were cool?  You ever noticed how you would have to go over the entire map to smooth out all the edges because they didn't even bother to try and play the map?  You hate it when you load a map up and the land and water are at exactly the water level so that you have vast amounts of water you can see through and a ton of land you can't build on?  Or how about those maps that have completely flat ground in the open spaces?  I hate all these things too.

So I bring you another map that was made specifically for playing.

I made this map by hand in SC4Terraformer.  I have noticed a great deal of maps uploaded just aren't playable, sure they look pretty but they just aren't playable.  Not enough attention was paid to them, too sad really.  THIS map was made with playing in mind, never mind it looking realistic or being a place we can relate to.  This map is made to be played.  You can dig no less than 15 meters with hole digging lots all over the map, anywhere, it has mountains, hills, plains, rivers, lakes, and a coast line with a bay and a few islands here and there.  The waters are just shallow enough to build coastal development kit custom content but also deep enough to allow boat passage anywhere and everywhere.  There is a mixture of steep and beach coastline and the beaches are not so long that you can't build anything on them.  The flat ground, the plains, is not really flat anywhere, I made sure to erode the terrain enough so that the ground is not completely flat, it is flat enough that building a railroad with a slope mod installed might not even alter the terrain(in places) but if you build farms over fast amounts of  flat land you will notice the land actually rolls.  I even included some smaller city tiles surrounding a large tile so that you can naturally, with an unmodded game, unlock rewards that are centered around building neighbor connections to many maps.  So this map is great for vanilla games and heavily modded games.

Have to agree with the recent uploaded maps. What is even worse, despite being not-so-playable most peeps give them 5 stars and positive feedback before even testing it, judging only upon the presentation image. Just like yours has been downrated twice prior to a single download. Pity.

Hey, its all good, ratings, download numbers, and post counts mean nothing to me anyway, I am not here for a popularity contest.

Well done, it's clear a lot of thought has gone into creating this map. Even though it doesn't look as visually stunning, it will certainly allow for sprawling regional development.

I like the concept and support the idea to balance aesthetics with functionality. :thumb:

Thanks for sharing, 5/5

I really do think this is a nice map. I've started a new region on it, and I really like how nice it is! Much better than the default "Timbuktu" region which has slopes that are too steep to build roads up with a slope mod, and you can't build anything on those slopes without getting ugly retaining walls. This, OTOH, is nice and flat, but still has rolling hills on the flat spots.

Even though it's not perfect IMO, I still gave you five stars; after all, I fixed the few things I thought were missing in SC4 Terraformer. I like to make the map "mine," too. My favorite thing about this map is the lone mountain in the western part, just north of that lake. Reminds me of the one in The Hobbit. :D (I'm not a crazy Lord of the Rings fan, but that's just what I thought of when I saw it.)

I've invested a total of 8+ months of gameplay - a whopping 1,780 in-game years - into this region, and I must say that this is one of the best custom regions I have ever used. The landscape works well with slope mods and has plenty of enough terrain features to suit almost any game-play style. The Sims currently living in Possum Kingdom (As I've named the region) are loving this region too. :P
