*Port Maarten Overview*
Port Maarten was founded by the Dutch in 1501 when a wayward sea storm blew Dutch sailors of their intended path. Upon their arrival the headsman and captain of the fleet of ships, Captain Maarten Prins, immediately claimed the area in the name of what is now the Netherlands and began his difficult 4 year journey back to his country. Today “port maarten” is a thriving tourist port of call because it boast pleasant Mediterranean like temperatures all year around despite their latitude being in the low 40’s and some of the most magnificent palisades ( palisades are an area where cliffs jut dramatically into the sea). Port Maarten proudly boast the fact that they are the most southerly point that can be reached on the Simcontinent without having to east or west to travel even further south.
