About This File
In the first quarter of the 20th century, a lot of companies built offices in the centre of Amsterdam. Although there are modern examples along former canals as the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, most office buildings from that period, mainly the ones along the canals, are designed in a more traditional way, such as the one for the Banking Company of Pierson & Co (2x3 CO $$$), built in 1917/18. The company, a private banker, asked the Van Gendt Brothers to design a traditional 17th century facade, not only to show the company's wealth, but also to show reliability; as if the company had been there for centuries. The facade is mainly decorated with details based on Dutch classicism. It was expanded at the garden side in the 1970s.
This download also contains a college version of the building.
