Freight Station Mod  1.0

About This File

I'm currently playing on a large map with a big island. I got some nice industry going and thought, well how do i get my cargo off this island? Well, i could let the trucks rumble all over my island and get to the docks. Though this option left my industry with a long commute time through a big city. I guess i could also relocate the industry near the shore. But no, i wanted to lay some RR tracks and have the trains bring it to the docks, and the ships take it off the island. Sounds like a plan, no?

Well to make that possible, i had to modify the Freight station (or create a new lot; i figured the first option was better - no need for multiple freight stations). All i modified was for the stations to be able to "convert" freight trains into "trucks" in addition to its old features.

Just place the .dat into your plugins folder. No worries, it is not a permanent change! If you don't like it, just delete the .dat again!

Besides my above example, you can also have trains transport cargo closer to the edge of the map, and then let trucks take over. I'm sure you'll have your uses for this mod!

This is the mod for me! I've been wondering why freight stations couldn't do this in the first place and having trucks soaking up all my roads was rather a hassle. Thanks!

Good job. But as far as I remember from my playing experience, original freight station does basically transfer freight to ports if you place them near each other

I used this all the time when I was using any and all STEX files I could find to play with. Then I started to play with little to not files. Now I'm building back up my favorites and this was in my top 5! Great job, glad it is still out here!

This is the way freight terminals should have behaved to begin with. After all, factories need to be able to bring in raw materials, not just ship out finished goods. Now there just needs to be a mode that requires factories to import raw materials, not just ship out finished goods. I'd also like to find a modified seaport that accepted freight trains directly.
