This is a map of the Guaymas region in the heart of the Sea of Cortez in northwest Mexico. Unlike other pacific coast cities in Mexico, Guaymas has not been developed as a large tourist spot yet (although last I heard they are working on it). However, Guaymas is the largest port-of-call in northwest Mexico. San Carlos, is a nearby town that hosts many retirees from the USA and Canada, and it sports great beaches in a relaxed desert-meets-sea environment. Part of the Hollywood movie "Mask of the Zorro", as well as the legendary "Chatch 22" were filmed there.
Rendering of the map takes a good 15-20 minutes. The map was put together using actual terrain elevation data obtained from a government website (INEGI); it's somewhat large, and it depicts the whole San Carlos, Guaymas, and neighbouring Empalme area. Do a simple "Guaymas, Mexico" search in Google Earth to locate this region, and don't forget to check the Geographic Web option to see actual pictures of the city/region. Hope you like it!

- This is an update of the Guaymas map that I uploaded years ago. I've been playing this map for a while now, but I forgot to update it on the STEX. There's two changes: 1) I re-scaled the map to reflect (near) real-world measurements and because of that, 2) I trimmed it a bit so that the playing region remained manageable. Otherwise the region became too big to play. I hope you like it.
