About This File

OVERVIEW

Built in 1936 and designed by architect Albert Kahn, the Burton Memorial Tower stands 212 feet (73 meters) above the main campus of the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor. Its bell tower houses the 43-ton Charles Baird Carillon -- the fourth heaviest musical instrument in the world! This is a faithful recreation of the actual building: the only liberties taken have been with the lot design of the educational building.

For SimCity4, the building has been adapted in various versions to give you the widest possible choice, depending on your individual taste. It is up to you to decide which version(s) you would like to use. It doesn't matter if you select only one or if you decide to use both simultaneously; there are no conflicts or other limitations that would prevent you from doing so.

The following versions are available:

  • Landmark
  • College

Note: The landmark lot will appear in your landmarks menu, while the college lot will appear in your education menu.

The lot is very "unspectacular", but the building makes me forget that immediately. Just beautiful! 10/10

Nightlightings awesome. But the base looks bare...for me it seems as though there should be a large base just as grand as the top of this bat ;)

The Bell Tower! I express my full awe and appreciation as a current U-M student. Maize-alicious!

Thanks everyone!! Just as a note: I did BAT the bells and scaffolding inside the tower too! You can see bits of it through the openings in the belltower. :) @Brad-MacD: Keep in mind this is a recreation of a real building -- in real life the base is that plain, but I agree that the tower deserves a grand, elaborate base befitting of its grandeur. ;D

And as for the comments about the lots, folks, the thing sits on concrete pavement. That's about as spectacular as it gets.

I've already been using this for a little while, and I can say that it's definitely a 10 out of 10. :)
