Following Mapping New Zealand, here is Akaroa, a small former french settlement. The french settled here in the 1800s and owned all of Canterbury until the English bought it off them. Sitting on the site of an ancient volcano, a large harbor was important in the first settlement.
Map size: 12kmx10km.
