About This File

PDA-ADC Buckingham Fountain

Buckingham Fountain was designed and built in 1927 by Chicago urban planner Edward
Bennett, for Kate Buckingham in honor of her deceased husband.  The design is based
off of the Fountain of Latona at Versailles.  It has become an enduring symbol of
Chicago.

The fountain is the centerpiece of Grant Park, just feet away from Burnham Harbor.  It has spectacular fountains, with three tiers of pools and, on the bottom tier, four copper seahorses that spray water.  The central section lights up at night, and changes colors.  I could not implement this, so I stuck with orange, the usual color.

This is a good attempt, but it doesnt really do the original justice. Is it possible to add the missing water jets? They are what make the fountain so beautiful. Also, the ground should be a reddish gravel instead of pavement

BS - this in Chicago. Like I said, it's based off the Ft. of Latona at Versailles. There may be a similar one at Trafalgar, tho.

I like it too. I live in Chicago Downtown, frequest the fountain all the time. However, just my issue is that there are no tiles surrounding the fountain....its actually sand.....But nontheless. AWESOME! Definately using it!!! :)

I live near chicago, a few miles away actually, and as I recall, there is sand, not pavement, and there's a HUGE tower of water in the middle.

Nice eyecatcher! an additional 5x5 lot would be useful in symmetrical parks with an uneven tile width. Never been in Chicago, don't know how good it is as a replica, but as a large simfountain it is just fine.
