I have started using RHW and it is a bit of an uphill battle. Currently, I am trying to get nicer curves with RHW-4. But it seems all the pieces from the RHW Curves Button I am trying to use cannot be placed next to each other. So I can only ever make one direction curve. E.g. I can manage to get the RHW-4 Inner Curve. But when I try adding the RHW-4 Outer Curve, it keeps switching to the opposite angle. Only moving it further away, creating a really wide gap, seems to work. The NAM Documentation stays silent on this and only ever shows a single direction in the examples, never both. I looked as well at @Haljackey's NAM Highway Tutorial on YouTube but did not see anything there that would help. I am sure am I missing something but what? Perhaps somebody could share an image of an RHW-4 45° curve and maybe point me to the right way of creating it?

NAM36 Tutorial: RHW-4 U-Turns
Naomi57 posted a City Journal entry in Breezy Point, East New York: SimCity 4 tips and tricks (NAM36)
NAM36 Tutorial: RHW-4 U-Turns Sometimes sims need to do a U-Turn on the highway. This is particularly troublesome if their work and home is close, as the crow flies, but the great big highway is in the way, requiring that they take a very long circuitous route to get to the other side of the highway. That's the sort of thing that can lead to residential buildings being abandoned. The ability to do a U-Turn fixes that, with sims jumping on the highway, and using the U-Turn to switch directions ASAP and jump off the highway on the other side. There's four efficient and realistic ways to implement a U-Turn on RHW-4 highways ... The next interchange up the highway. This is the one we're all used to from Maxis vanilla highways (MHW). Most interchanges provide the ability to do a U-Turn ... but some don't, and sometimes the next interchange is too far away, so it's good to have some other options. A simple little compact diamond interchange, like this one, is a very effective way to accommodate U-turns. Draw across the two carriageways of RHW-4 using the Street tool (Alt+R key). This looks rather like an emergency vehicle turning lane ... and I presume commuters can use these, too, when they need to? Draw across the two carriageways of RHW-4 using the Road tool (R key). This looks like a higher traffic volume solution than Street (above), but I don't know whether this causes traffic congestion problems like at-grade highway intersections usually do? A FLUPs RHW-4 U-Turn, using a FLUPs underpass, with FLUPs ramps descending and ascending parallel and adjacent to the highway. Above options 2 and 3 are cheap, easy and effective. Whether they are effective in high volumes of traffic is something I haven't tested yet, which led me to come up with option 4. Follow this post if you'd like to know about traffic congestion, as I'll post back here in the comments when I find out. Further explanation on option 4 follows ... Option 4 – The FLUPs RHW-4 U-Turn This needs a minimum of 8 tiles adjacent each side of the highway, so while smaller than an interchange, it ain't small! Here's the ingredients list: FLUPs one-way road ramps, these are found on the FLUPs menu item, just rotate the FLUP road ramp (with Home/End keys), until it turns into a one-way road ramp ... make sure the arrows are pointing in the right direction! Here's an excellent video tutorial on FLUPs from @rsc204, if FLUPs are new to you. https://youtu.be/HpLGtqjjE8A?t=334 Type A1 outside ramps. Here's a link to a tutorial on creating those with DRI. https://community.simtropolis.com/journals/entry/29111-nam36-tutorial-starting-out-with-basic-rhw-highway-ramps-dri/ Diagonal underground route under Pedmall (shown in screenshot below). These are under the FLUPs menu item (framed with a red square below), but you have to use the Tab key many times to reach this piece, and then rotate with Home/End keys many times to get to the right shape and type. Straight underground route perpendicular under straight RHW4 (shown in screenshot below). This is a special FLUPs piece that is NOT under the FLUPs menu item ... instead you'll find it under the RHW/RD menu item (also framed with a red square in the screenshot below), the Shift+Tab three times to reach the "under straight RHW-MIS" piece, than rotate using Home/End keys until the "under straight RHW4" piece appears. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: See the full catalog of my NAM tutorial posts linked in the comments under this other Simtropolis post of mine ... NAM36 Tutorial: RHW-4 to MIS inline branch (DRI)
Naomi57 posted a City Journal entry in Breezy Point, East New York: SimCity 4 tips and tricks (NAM36)
NAM36 Tutorial: RHW-4 to MIS inline branch (DRI) This tutorial covers transitioning from a single carriageway of RHW-4 to double tile MIS inline branch, which looks very similar to my earlier post RHW-2 to MIS inline transition (DRI), but it's not! These two techniques often work well together. On a 6 point scale, the RHW-4 to MIS inline branch rates as Intermediate: Beginner ► Intermediate ► Advanced ► Difficult ► Sophisticated ► Expert This is another key element of my Compact RHW-4 T-Interchange, a common DRI pattern I will be using very frequently. Unlike my earlier post, the yellow line is on the left-side of both MIS roads (or on the right side in a UK left-hand drive setup), so this MIS ramp provides a one-way inline branch. The difference between this and most MIS ramps, is that it branches the RHW-4 into two MIS ramps, thereby terminating the stretch of RHW-4. In NAM36, this inline branch is another feature you won't find under the RealHighway Width Transitions menu. I think there might be a way to achieve this using the FLEXRamp Type D1, but quite frankly, it seems much easier to use DRI. These DRI techniques also tend to result in a more robust highway construction which is less prone to breakage. This technique even allows you to avoid using the RHW-4 and MIS starter pieces! Yay! The Draggable Ramp Interface (DRI) can be a little hard to learn, because the completed DRI draw (using the RHW-2 tool), transforms immediately into MIS ramps. The completed draw typically shows the MIS ramps in yellow preview, as long as you hold down the mouse button, which is super helpful. Just press the Esc key if the yellow preview doesn't look right. I discovered the technique 52 seconds into this same YouTube tutorial on advanced DRI, by Ganaram Inukshuk, highly recommended. The first screenshot, is the DRI draw using the all-purpose RHW-2 tool, with the last piece of the DRI draw showing the yellow preview, and after that, is the completed single tile RHW-2 to double tile MIS inline branch. https://youtu.be/G4h0Jq2vClQ?t=52 Network Addon Mod Version 33 Teaser 6: RealHighway Draggable Ramp Interface Extension, Part 2 starting at 52 seconds, by Ganaram Inukshuk There are MANY, MANY varieties of this transition, with both compact parallel ramps, and wide 45º ramps, ground L0, L1, and more. Just a quick word of warning, however, that working at ground L0 is MUCH easier! On a 6 point scale, this same RHW-4 to MIS inline branch suddenly becomes Difficult, if you're working at elevated L1 or higher above ground. It's not that the DRI technique becomes Difficult, but all the subsequent highway building around it! Beginner ► Intermediate ► Advanced ► Difficult ► Sophisticated ► Expert The video tutorials on YouTube go by so quick. I pause the video (K), at the very moment the yellow preview appears, so that I can see the draw used to produce the ramps. Hey guys, There is still no toll both for RHW4 on the STEX (I didn't find one ), so I made one. The Toll Booth Model is not mine, it is made by MrSnoopy, so this (and the RHW, of course) is the only dependency. As you can see on the screenshot, the direction is shown by the plop arrow. Update 1: Some values adjusted. Please re-download if you downloaded it before. Update 2: Sorry, but the NAM team changed the ID of the RHW-4 lot texture, so this file was broken for a long time. Updated the lot texture. Dependencies: MrSnoopy's Toll Booths - To avoid brown boxes. The Real Highway Mod If you don't see the Lot Textures, update your RHW. NAM 31.2 or higher required, previous versions might work (not tested).- 34 Comments
