  2. Ingrid Valley Megacaldera Complex

    Version 1.0

    220 Downloads

INTRODUCTION Ingrid Valley Megacaldera Complex is a vast metropolis in the beginning... but throughout seven stages of development the valley is completely transformed into a beautiful, varied landscape. Like the Blake River Megacaldera Complex [ now already 2 billion years old ] Ingrid Valley is the remnants of three titanic volcanic eruptions, sourced from a huge underground igneous system called a supervolcano. The remnants are called calderas, or in this case due to their colossal size, megacalderas. FORMATION Megacalderas are formed when so much ejecta is erupted that the magma chamber is partly emptied. About 1 tenth of it's total capacity is removed, and the above crust falls in, creating a crater tens of miles wide, and at least a thousand feet deep. In the eruption, about 2 thirds of the superheated, pulverized ejecta immediately falls back down, totaling in volume from 700 cubic kilometers to about 2000. This is dispersed within 100 miles of the megacaldera in pyroclastic flows, boiling avalanches of volcanic gas and tephra travelling at 500 to 700 kilometers per hour. The tephra is called ignimbrite when it is laid down by pyroclastic flows, and can be over 1000 feet deep. This raises the terrain around the supervolcano, filling in small valleys and rivers. Throughout the seven stages of Ingrid Valley's formation there are three supervolcanic eruptions, each forming it's own megacaldera. Between each eruption is 800,000 years of erosion, totaling the period of erosion to nearly 2.5 million years. At the final stage an asteroid impact has occurred, drastically altering the local landscape. CONCLUSION All stages of the megacaldera complex's formation are in the zip file. It is only 1/3rd of actual size, and the full size version will be uploaded shortly. I hope you enjoy the challenges and beauty of Ingrid Valley Megacaldera Complex, as I enjoyed making it.
  3. The Eruption: Part 2

Hi, volcanologist-in-sub-training here. Good job, this looks awesome. I loved the town before the mountain did a Montserrat , shame of what happened.  Now, I suggest placing multiple tornadoes at once for a pyroclastic flow effect. Btw; In large volcanic eruptions pyroclastic flows leave huge deposits of volcanic hash and pumice 100+ feet deep. This is called ignimbrite, or tuff when it welds together. I suggest going into God mode via cheats [ look it up] and completely raising the landscape where pyroclastic flows  have struck. Also, volcanoes always have a period of calm before a major blast; it's when the pressure is so high that the gas can't escape through fumaroles, and it just builds to breaking point. It's also a good plot device.
  4. Volcanic modd

Mega issue; The rock mod stays. Even when the file isn't in the SC4 Data. Why does the basalt stay like that?
  5. Well, it might be good, but if there are REALLY that many dependancies, it would be way too much effort to scrape every dependancy out of every SimCity 4 downloading website in existence in order for this little Starbucks to work. I might enjoy it if it had less dependancies.

This is my last map, inverted style. It's quite a bit whiter now, as the colours were reversed today. Seas exploded as the ground beneath erupted upwards, and this mostly turned to snow, which blanketed the region. Meanwhile, the areas where towering columns stood over plains imploded and surged down below sea level. The water that didn't freeze as snow flowed down depressions into the imploded holes. What you see above is the final result. You players will find that, although the snow takes a long time to settle, Most of it is buildable land scattered with giant wells, not a giant stretch of sea with great big horns sticking out all over the place and the smallest amount of constructable land. I think everyone will enjoy this map better than the first version.
  13. What Music are you listening to right now?

'Don't Talk Down' by 'The Stills' on loop. Before the last five times I listened to this song I was listening to 'Science of Fear' by 'The Temper Trap' also on loop, for two times . Before that, can anyone guess? Clue, making conversation with a dead snail on your foot isn't allowed. Lol.
  14. Blue Hope - The Interactive City Journal

Wow, 28,000 points from 5 months ago. I am rich and I am happy! Except for a little problem... I use a Mac and I'm not sure if I can download the entire region and post my changes back. Some buildings might not work, and it is pretty worrying. Is the self-made configuration still an option?

  19. Motherload Unlimited

Welcome to a thread I am posting to promote a series of mining games called Motherload Unlimited. The project has been running for a little over a year, and has nearly half a thousand people playing. I hope to promote it so much that over 1 million people could be playing. This is very high, but a human can hope. This is the link to the main site; http://mlu.aceboard.com/index.php?login=298656 This is the most primitive version,MLU1.It doesn't have very advanced graphics, and glitches prevail. The field is 480 feet wide and 30,000 feet deep. This is MLU Dashboard Jesus Edition.A member on the forum there called Sethness started making the graphics for the game, although he kept some of the first minerals. This is Pumpkin Patch Edition, released mere weeks after Dashboard Jesus, mainly for a holiday special. This here is Snowglobe Edition. It showed quite some graphical improvement, but unfortunately was the last completed installment on Mars to date. This is MLU 2.It is much harder, since it takes place on a very geologically and weatherly active planet known as Crematoria, and amounts of saves are limited. Since Sethness left the forum prior to completion graphics have been taken over by another user called VirusEcks. The new playing field is only 1000 feet deep, but it's truly massive, because it goes for 50,000 feet to the east. I hope to make graphics myself, and I hope any graphics I make are put into any hypothetical future edition. This is a truly fun game, and with nearly 2 days of gameplay per savefile it will fill any spare time. I am making a let's play of Snowglobe and I will also do one for MLU 2 in about, oh... 6 months.
  20. Giant Supercluster

This is a NASA image of a 'supercluster' 300 million light years long and 10.6 billion light years away converted into a greyscale map for the Simtropolis and SC4 world. The original article is here; http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/2004/0107filament.htmll It's quite a rough map, and a challenge to build on, but there are some flat areas [ as shown ] I hope you enjoy this cosmic wonder.
  21. Fusion Incorporated Power Plant

Exactly how much power does this give off? Just wondering, only the in-game graphs don't give precise data.
  22. New Official BAT Request Thread

I've got a few ideas. Most are bombs. Like a table, with seperate range capabilities, for three elements; a=fire, b=instant destruction, and c=radiation. And the ranges would be 0=none,1= small range [ roughly 10x10 ], 2=medium [full small city tile] 3= large [full medium city tile] 4= extreme [entire large city tile]. So for example, A4-B1-C3 would mean an entire large city instantly set alight [ even if set in a corner of a large city tile], a small range instantly destroyed, and an area the size of a medium city filled with radiation. And in a big pack, have all 15 possible types. Although not all off, or full destruction and any fire on at the same time, because the entire city would be demolished without fire, so any fire would be pointless. Also, in my country we have trees up to 100 meters tall which have an oil in their sap which evaporates in the heat of our summers. This generates a thick haze around and over the top of the trees. This makes them hyper-flammable in the summer day, especially in huge clusters. Could someone maybe model & BAT clusters of eucalyptus trees, and the suggested bombs? And could you also try to make them .dat files, or at least Mac compatible? Cuz I'd really like to use them.
