Date: 11/23/2004 7:30:44 PM Author: RascalBC Hello busy modders! First let me say how impressed I am with folks that can do this. I'm still trying to master the lot editor! I've downloaded the Daeley's Beta for this and played around with it. One minor observation. In a city where I do not have any Tram systems or stations, my Passenger Trains running to another city do not have locomotives. The Freight Trains are not affected. Cheers, rascalbcquote> If you intend to have a city that does not use the light rail mod and you want to use trains its a good idea to remove the light rail mod before playing that city. The mod removes the passenger trains to allow the trams to work properly (for now).

Date: 11/19/2004 3:35:07 PM Author: Daeley another idea just hit me... would it be possible to create these light rail puzzle pieces as ground-level elevated rail? (gosh that sounds silly ) that way they'd be usefull for someone who doesn't actually want the light rail mod too, and it makes it easier to have trains and trams co-existing. It does kinda shift the problem to making trams and elrail live together, but personally I don't think too many people would mind if I replaced the normal elevated rail with trams... they're light rail too anyway.quote> That would sure work for me. You just have to convince Tropod that it's a good idea. He is the brains behind the NAM and is one of the few who seems to be able to whip up those nice puzzle pieces. Sounds like something for everyone in this solution.

Date: 11/16/2004 8:00:54 PM Author: Tropod Date:11/10/2004 12:27:25 AM Author:lakeyboy Tropod and the NAM team should give you a hand and then include it in the NAM. Then we have to make light rali station puzzle pieces or something if possible quote> To be honest; I don't/can't see how making puzzle pieces for something such as this will solve anything at all. Puzzle Pieces are essentially network pieces, not Lots. So making something like lightrail station puzzle pieces wouldn't be possible I would think (perhaps I'm reading that wrong though?). Making rail PP would be kind of a mute point really. Perhaps if someone were to clarify &/or elaborate a lot more on the whole matter, that might help clear things up. quote> Well Tropod, it is really a matter of looks. The way the light rail trains behave now, they stop on every transit enabled lot. The tracks that I made for the mod are transit enabled lots, so they stop on every one. If you think about it, I just want a set of puzzle pieces to differentiate the light rail from the regular rail and to make it look good without having the trains stop at the end of those lots. Most light rail systems have rails embeded in concrete or asphalt and new puzzle pieces for the tracks would give the mod a more realistic feel. The light rail stations are transit enabled lots also and having the trains stop at them is great. So all that I'm saying is the puzzle pieces wouldn't be for the stations but for the rail line. The7trumpets is working on a way to run this on the ANT, but in case it can't be done some puzzle pieces would be something to fall back on. Oh, and by the way, I like your new medals.

Unfortuatly nobody has done any puzzle pieces for the mod. I have made a few attempts and have only been able to make the game crash in short order. So as of now we are waiting for the7trumpets to finnish with his work on the ANT and we are waiting for any kind-hearted modder to make the puzzle pieces work. Looks like it could be a long wait, but I hope I'm proven wrong.

Ok folks, I've made some 3d and FSH files for puzzle pieces. They do not work in the game so please do not try to put them in your sc4 plugin folder. Go ahead and download them and check them out in datgen or ilive. Please note that these will be experimental and will be improved over time if they can be made to work. If you can path these, write the exemplar file and make them work in the game please take them and make them work. This is as far as I can take it, so please lend a hand if you can. Download them here. Light rail puzzle pieces

Date: 10/25/2004 4:49:44 PM Author: friedbrice in the current version, sims can drive to the tram stations and then board a train. since there's no parking at the station, can you change the next version so that sims have to walk (or bus) to the station? that would be more realistic.quote> I think that may be doable friedbrice. I have been working on and off on a suburban station that has a small parking garage.

Hello everyone, I have some items for you to download and inspect as a part of the light rail beta. Hopefully Daeley will also grab these and incorperate them into the next version when there are more improvements. I have 4 color modern trams (no night light effect yet). They are compatable with the latest version. You must pick either the modern tram or the track checker tram(older looking style). If you have both of them in the plugin folder while playing the game, the track checker tram (older looking style) will override the modern tram. Also there are 4 color medium tram stations 3000 capacity. I have also included a sub-transfer station and a bus station that I designed for the light rail mod. Due to the unusual nature of the stations (putting different color line stations directly next to each other results in trams on the wrong color lines) I made these so I could have large centers to conect the lines. To use the sub and bus stations with the medium light rail stations place one of the sub or bus stations down. On either side of the building will be space to put your medium stations, or a road for busses or anything else that might fit underneath the overhang. I am planning to make an el-rail station in the future. Here is the link to the files >> Modern trams, Medium stations and sub/bus stations *EDIT* The original link did not contain the bus stop and sub station. It now does.

How about someone making some simple rail puzzle pieces. I am working on the light rail mod and for the life of me I can't seem to make a simple rail puzzle piece. A 1x1 straight piece would be a great starting point. Thanks

Good job with san fran. I feel like I've visited the place now.

Tunafish, Could you make those rail puzzle pieces available for download? We could really use those puzzle pieces for the light rail mod. I am not so sure if it is going to work out with the ANT so using rail puzzle pieces should be the next best thing. Using transit enabled lots doesen't work too well and I don't seem to have the skill required to make my own rail puzzle pieces. Please IM me if you are interested in helping with us with the light rail mod. You would ,of course, get full credit. Thanks

Andreas The other project that is taking my time away from my life is a set of european cars to replace the default cars in the game. Also working on an asian set. Hopefully I will be able to release one of them in a few weeks.

Nice looking Andreas Roth! I like em.
-
Andreas Roth, I really like the transit enabled menu icons. It gets confusing trying to find the right size lot to plunk down and this takes the confusion away. The stations look good also. Good work.

from my experience it seems that the game will crash when you leave a city and start up in a different one. Not sure why. My only guess at a culprit would be the LUA file in the automata controller. The other files are just transit enabled lots and reskinned automata. I believe the pre-beta version was doing the same thing so I don't think the new menu items are the problem. By the way Daeley, nice job with all that menu work. Now if T7T can get this to work with the ANT then we will be cooking. and as a side note, I have one of the modern trams running on the beta version very well. When I have the rest of them working and they have working night lights I will post them and then start working on double-sided trams.
