I'll watch those old dancers anytime I can (hence the names Fred & Ginger). And Cagney was one of the best! (I particularly like his dance on the banquette table). I had heard of the rainbow bridge in reference to Pets, didn't know it also referred to Valhalla. I firmly believe that My Princess is in heaven with her Daddy (as is Aurthur, my German Shepard who is with my Mom and Dad). @Voar Tok: I'll drink to that! *orders another Hot Chocolate with Baily's Irish Cream* @MsD: I agree, who wants to be at/in a place without our loveys @hym: I too, believe in security, but there are people who will try to hackanything and the more you try to protect it the more they will try to get in! Cohen USPS? The Postal service? No, I was a civilian who worked for the US Air Force, I was a Program Manager when I retired and for many years before that an Item Manager as an Item Manager we were responsible for calculating how many widgets would be bought each year and how many would be repaired. Sort of like a Bar Keep, so many beers last month means so many beers this month we didn't have auto-servers (too bad) so had to calculate the needs then ask for the money. Some years the threw money at us and others we struggled to just get money for the basics. A Program Manageris sort of like an orchestra leader: getting together all the disparate parts and bringing them in on the project at the right time and hopefully for the right amount of money. It was really interesting and I traveled a lot (which can get old really fast) meeting with the people who would use the project, the manufacturers and the people who would be supporting the project. One project was for the weather service part of the AF and we were buying a new type of wind measuring device. One of the requirements was it had to still work in really cold temps so we had to watch ice grow during one of the test! @MsD: I guess I believe in an afterlife for pets as much as one for us, although I believe in reincarnation too! (I always tell everyone I want to come back as one of my pets ). @hym: Incoming and outgoing? Slippery slope my friend... Oh, and Like N_O_Body says, you still have time to grow, my 2nd oldest brother was the shortest kid in his senior class then that summer he shot up to over 6 feet! @sloppet: I hate coffee, can I have some of that cake you posted on the previous page?

@N_O_Body: I loved sailing, use to go with some friends, their boat was tied up at a local reservoir and we would sail the summer days away. Then we had a drought and the reservoir got so low the boat owners had to take their boats out of the water or get stuck in the mud. My friends sold their boat not long after that as it was too much trouble getting the boat in and out, too expensive, and they had too many life changes. When I went on a cruise to Alaska I went sea kayaking, that was really fun. We stayed in a bay and kayaked around looking at the eagles and the sea life. I don't know how I missed Narnia, it may not have been in the library I use to go to. (It was a really small library - not much bigger than a small room or I may have been put off by the Christian reference - not big on organized religion). At Costco yesterday I picked up Wicked (The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West) by Gregory Maguire. I'm about half through it and it's an Interesting read. The writing is good, but it hasn't really grabbed me. You know how there are some books you have a really difficult time putting down even when you have to. Well, this one I can put down, no trouble. I have a feeling the play would be more riveting. That's one reason (of many) that I really miss my late husband. We both loved live theater and had subscription tickets to the Broadway series in San Francisco where we would see plays the had been on Broadway a season or two before. I really miss live theater, but haven't found anyone to go with since he passed away and it's really hard to go to the theater alone (at least for me). @MsD: Yes, I like cats too. My youngest sister (she lives next door in what use to be our Grandmothers house) had our Mothers two black cats. They use to live outside then the oldest got really sick so Cris brought her in the house, then the younger got sick so Cris brought her in too. The three of them lived happily together for some time then this last summer the poor old dears really started showing their age (one was about 19, the other 18 and they were in such pain and so feeble the we had to put them to sleep. It was difficult to do, but it was also difficult to see them try to move about and we couldn't take that. I've read some of the Cat who . . books. found them to be enjoyable. The thing is I really have a hard time with series books because I want them all now! Like Sue -what's-her-name series of the alphabet. I started reading at A is for and got to D I think then just dropped it - lost interest because it took too long between books and they started publishing them in hardback and I just didn't want to spend that kind of money and the paperback didn't come out until a year later. The only reason I've stuck with the ... In Death series is because the writing is so excellent and I really like the heroine and hero and the supporting players are terrific. You wouldn't think books about death would be funny but they are. @hym: Lol, sounds kinda Big Brother-ish! What kind of information are you going to get?????? @ALL: Yes, let's celebrate the Trixies and Congrats to those of you that won Trixies this year or were named for an honorable mention or were even nominated! What a great honor!

@hym: I worked with an engineer (electrical, I think) that wired his burglar alarm/smoke detector etc. to his computer and it would call him or his wife if any alarms were set off - scared me to death on day when I answered the phone and this computer started tell me This Message is for ___________, the burglar alarm has been set off I went running around looking for him, sure that his house was empty and he was all ho hum about it. (This was before that sort of management from home computers was available to the public.) @N_O_Body: I'll agree the ...In Death series is great, I've got them all and reread them often. I'll read anything with Nora Roberts name on it (and have consequently ended up with double purchases when they repackage her earlier works - so I check carefully now). I'll be going out to Costco later to day and see if they have anything new although at this time of the year they have mostly coffee table books. Otherwise, I order books from Amazon so I think I'll look up your suggestion - I love that I can get used books there now. I just ordered the Narnia series and am waiting for them to show up (that ought to hold me for a few days). @MsD: Edgar Allen Poe is a fave too, I must admit it's been a while since I've read him. I usually go for something light as I read while watching TV (which is why I missed Janet Jackson's 'wardrobe malfunction' during the super bowl - I was reading during the half time ). That's one of the reasons I haven't read Agatha Cristi for a while - she makes me think to hard! As to the government regs (), I always told the people that I supervised that if they knew the regs inside and out then they could do whatever they needed to do because they would understand what was 'legal' and what was not. Having that kind of understanding meant they could manipulate the regs in their favor! (It's amazing what you can get away with if you really know the rules and stay within their parameters while going your own way).

@N_O_Body: Fred doesn't play well with others, he would snap at Ginger for some of the most insignificant things and snaps at my sister's dog whenever I doggie sit if she gets to near me or his food (hmmm, not sure I like being in the same category as his food). Lol, yes I'm sure Bill's autobiography will be partially fictionalized. As to Hillary's version, it would be interesting to have a completely candid conversation with her! I'm only reading Bill's because it is free, I wouldn't buy it, but since I'm getting it on loan I'll read it. I tend to read most anything that's put in front of me and have only not finished reading a couple of books (William Burroughs 'Naked Lunch' was one, a rambling druggies nightmare - ugh!) so I try not to pick up things which I Know I will not like (Stephen King comes to mind - his stories gives me the creeps and not the good kind of creeps). Is 'Ruled Britannia' depressing? Always looking for something new to read but need nice and light.

@the_new_simman: Hi, sit down, have something to eat and drink and join in the conversations. @N_O_Body: Actually, the Vet says she has a dog that has been on steroids for the same thing for the past three years so it just depends on how bad it is. It really worries me when he starts sneezing as his nose starts to bleed. If a crime scene team did one of those luminosity test at my house they would find blood everywhere (and in my car), At the first sign of sneezing I pop a Benedrill in him. I also have a medicine I can squirt in his nose if the bleeding will not stop. And the Vet is always willing to see him, so we're not to bad off. As to another pet - I think I want a pet free zone for a while/then again... @MsD: I once ate some liver accidentally and almost threw up, it's not so much the taste (I love liverwurst) but the texture . I refuse to read nonfiction anymore (although as soon as my sister brings me Bill Clinton's autobiography I'll be reading that). Had too many years reading rules and regulations (retired Civil Servant - USAF) so I stick with fiction. I admire you for being able to read nonfiction - most stuff that comes out just doesn't interest me, besides, some of the fiction I have read provides interesting facts to further the story ( a woman named Elizabeth Lowell has a whole series about a family that is involved with gems and minerals and she writes about the particular gem or minerals traits and history as part of the stories i.e. Pearl Cove is about the pearl business including ways to fake pearls and to fake their color).

@N_O_Body: The doggies had just turned 14 when Ginger passed away. They are small dogs (1/4 Bichon Frisee, 1/4 Shih Tzu & 1/2 some kind of Terrier/mix) She weighed 16 lbs, then had surgery to take out cancer in her stomach, but couldn't eat or drink for a week (we never did figure out why) by the time she got back for doggie hospital she only weighed 12 lbs. (that was in 2001). She never gained any weight after that, Fred weighs 20 lbs now because he is on steroids as he has cancer in his nose. His normal weight was about 19 lbs. So they fit on the chaise quite well. We don't know how bad Fred's cancer is because the only way to find out is a CT Scan which cost around 5 grand - which as as a retiree I just can't afford. The only treatment is radiation which is very costly not only financially but also Health wise (the radiation would damage the bones in his face/nose & the survival rate is only about 20%). The steroids are a stop-gap measure so we take one day at a time. @MsD: Actually I went ahead and had my pizza as I was famished. I don't think reading about something like that affects me - it would be very different to see it though (or smell it)! My late husband use to eat tongue occasionally, I would just ignore him when he did (I also made him cover it with aluminum foil so I couldn't see it in the fridge)! He grew up in Ohio and hunted for food as a child with his father so he told me some of the things he would eat. All I can say is thank goodness for grocery stores (even if I hate to shop!). Thank you both for your sympathy re my Princess (btw, I'm not the only one who called her Princess - they also referred to her as Princess at her vet/groomers - we all also blamed her when ever I was late for her appointments), since you are both animal lovers you know how much they mean to us. I firmly believe that she is in heaven with my husband sitting beside him in his chair watching TV as was their usual habit. She always was a daddy's girl!

@N_O_Body: Thanks, I'll do better in future after all we never stop learning (I hope!), and it was great to have the doggies laying on the chaise with me, unfortunately we lost the little princess (Ginger) last spring. Now it's just me and my sweet baboo (Fred). @MsD: Ugh!, I was going to go have some Pizza for dinner but I might have to wait on that, Ugh! *shudders*

Welcome, I'm sure you'll enjoy this site and find out much more about SC. May I suggest that before you start downloading thing that you get the Plugin organizer ( https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=BAT&Str=organize%20your%20plugin%20folder ) it will help you tremendously! The good thin about org. your plug ins is that if something goes wonky (technical term you know) and you have organized then you'll know where to look for the troublemaker. Additionally, when you decide you're ready for the SC tool (which lets you load specific folders for specific regions) You'll be readier to go. Another suggestion. There is a Thread in the forums for new people which explains terms and abbreviations. Enjoy!

Date: 12/7/2005 10:03:47 PM Author: N_O_Body Pearl Harbour Day, Roosevelt's 'Day that will live in infamy' reminds me that we of the commonwealth wanted the U.S. into the war so badly because we were losing it, and suddenly, there they were.  Churchill did a fine job persuading Roosevelt that the European war was first priority, and so the commonwealth doesn't speak German.  Once we got our alliance together, the Axis was doomed.  Before that, we were bleeding to death.  Now let us remember those American sailors who were caught in battleship row in Pearl, and the aviators who were in similar state.  And lets us remember Admiral Kimmel who had the can tied to him, deservedly so.  The U.S. Army commander at Pearl was equally to blame.  With war imminent, having your ships lined up at dock, even on a Sunday, like ducks in a shooting gallery was unforgivable, as were all the exposed aircraft.  We have to thank Providence that the Japanese commander (Yamamoto) did not realize what a stunning success he had achieved or an invasion of the Hawaian chain would surely have followed, leaving the allies with no forward pacific base.  A minute of silence for all who died that day. @Fred_Ginger:  Let's see.  On Pearl Harbor Day I was 4 years old.  I don't remember much about it, but my dad went to England with the Royal Canadian Artillery regiment in 1942 or 1943.  I do remember him coming back in 1946.  Re: Library.  Sounds very extensive.  I have a mixed library of non-fiction and fiction that occupies two walls of the room I am sitting in double-shelved on 8 foot stacks.  Lots of paper-backs with a good leavening of hard covers.  Lots of science fiction and fantasy, a smattering of technical computer stuff that I still reference, and some serious literature.  At my age, you tend to throw books you are not using out, or if possible to give them to a library or school.  Last fall I recycled most of my old tech references as I am really, really retired now.  'No book is ever lost by loaning except the one you really want to keep.' Well said N_O_Body re Pearl Harbor and a minute of silence is most appropriate. And may I ask for a minute of silence today for John Lennon, although I was 34 at the time of his death and had witnessed JFK and MLKs deaths I think that was the day my innocence truly died. It was terrible to loose the promise of JFK & MLK, but Lennon's death just seems so sad (probably because I had a little crush on him as a teen - it also meant that the Beatles would truly never play together again). As to books, when I moved back into what had been my parents house I had beautiful oak shelves added to what had been my parents bedroom in the front of the house (thank you golden handshake). The ceilings are 9 feet high and the first 1 1/2 feet are cabinets to hold records (about 500) then shelves to the ceiling. At the time I thought that would be sufficient space for my books with room to grow, I currently have books in every room of the house (except the bathrooms). I'm going to have to do as you say and get rid of a bunch as I've totally run out of room and they are everywhere, especially in the library as they are on the floor, on tables, on the cabinets. I go looking for something and have to move a zillion books and sometimes still can't find what I'm looking for! (And I still need to look for about three boxes of books that got misplaced when I moved). This room is also where I have one of my computers (I have a WiFi network) I got a Chaise Lounge for this room so Fred and Ginger could sit next to me and I could still use the computer - otherwise while sitting in an office chair they would try to get me to pick them up.

@N_O_Body: I've read SF since the late 1950's Isaac Asimov (use to get his mag too) and Andre Norton, then moved on to Frank Herbert, Piers Anthony, then on to Orson Scott Card and Marion Zimmer Bradley ( wondered if I could recreate Darkover in SC4 but since I don't BAT it would be hard) also Anne McCaffrty (and again wondered about recreating Pern - but the stone/cave house/weirs would be really difficult. Actually have 100's of SF books but haven't added to that genre for a while (except for some Anita Hill - Vampire Slayer books - can't recall the author at the moment). I go from one thing to another and have totally run out of room in my Library I wasn't alive during Pearl Harbor being one of the baby boom first generations but my husband recalled getting home from Sunday school and settling in to read the comics while listening to the radio with his parents when news came over the radio. He was living in Ohio at the time. I put my flag out this morning but had to bring it in around noon as it was sprinkling.

@ N_O_Body: I'm rereading J. D. Robb's (Nora Roberts) ...In Death series again as she has a new one due out soon and I want to be sure to remember where she left off. Since I retired from US Civil Service I only read fiction (Government regulations can make a person nutso!). And since I've always liked SF and Romance the ... In Death series is right up my alley as it combines both. *takes the plastic cover with pie remaines off the book and settles in to read some more* Do you think the autoserver can make me a Blizzard - that's Hot Chocolat and Baily's Irish Cream?

Hi guys, first let me say thank you for this great tool, now if i could only figure out how to make it work. I've read the read me twice and still don't know how to load my existing regions. Could some one give me step by step instructions? I've used computers for years but don't always understand how they work, but am really good at following instruction. Please be patient with me!

Date: 11/26/2005 8:31:08 PM Author: Truckin_Papa I have great news about our friend MsD.  She had her surgery this morning, and she came through with flying colors.  The infection had gotten into the sholder joint itself so they had to remove that and replace it with a metal one.  They also had to replace a couple of tendens with some kind of special cord.  The Doctors said that tissue will eventually attach itself to this cord and basicly create a new tendon.  They also had to cut out some of the sholder muscle.  The Doctors said that it wasn't enough to cause any type of perminate impairment other then a small divot where that part of the muscile used to be.  She will be a little weaker on that side but with excercise she will be able to get back some of her strength, but they doubt that she will be able get all of her strength fully back. quote> Thanks for the good news Truckn' Papa, Tell MsD that although times are difficult right now, she has much love and support to help her to get better!

Did you use Peg's ponds and streams or the water mod in mayor mode? You can make pretty realistic ponds/lakes with waterfalls with Peg's ponds and streams with waterfalls. True the don't match the in game water but if you want lakes/ponds/rivers/streams there isn't much choice. There are also mods available that will change the in game water.

I for one do not need them to be dirt when next to nothingness well, most of the time. Dirt would be nice for those little rural towns I make with all of Peg's lovely new toys (rural sheriff, fire dept., school, housing and in-works I & C). *sigh* I'm grateful for whatever you guys produce!!!
