Aaron Graham, GreekMan: Thank you both! Benedict: Thank you, Ben! I'm glad you approve of my lotting work on Yoder's excellent BAT. vivapanda: More from Kendall? I like the sound of that - keep an eye out for future Kendall updates, and thanks for the idea! SimCoug: Thanks! It's great to be back updating again, and with so many positive comments from folks as talented as you, it's a privilege. Lyhoko Leaci: That's right - time to board the TARDIS; we'll soon be headed back into Nyhaven's past once again! Thanks for the comment! Fox: Thank you, my friend! There's more of Kendall coming soon. sim_link: Thank you very much! I appreciate the encouragement. Today, I bring you a flash-forward to the present day with a look at Nyhaven International Airport (IATA: NHN, ICAO: KLNH). Nyhaven International Airport serves all of Nyhaven's metropolitan area, which also includes Kendall, the capital of Lower Columbia. Here's a Zoom 1 mosaic of the finished airport (clickable for the full-size version): The central terminal turnaround, as well as two hangars for Lower Columbian government planes: The main concourse for Terminal 1 is home to all of ColumbiAir's gates: Terminal 1 also has two satellite concourses, accessed by an underground train. Concourse C, at left, is for European and African airlines, while Concourse B (at right) is for Asian and Oceanic airlines: Terminal 2 serves the airlines of the Americas and Veratlantic countries. Pier C is for widebody aircraft: ...while Piers A and B serve smaller planes: There's also a small terminal for business jets: West of the terminals is long-term parking, with train and shuttle service into the terminal area: More flash-forward updates are coming, as well as a continuation of the main historical story. Please rate up and comment if you liked this entry! Thanks for visiting!- 1,188 Replies

City_Master: Right you are! Hopefully, if I can coax SC4 into making everything look just a bit better, you'll soon see much more of Nyhaven's history. Thanks for the reply! sim_link: Thank you! Yes, this is definitely a different take on the city than I've done until now. SimCoug: Thanks, SimCoug! I'm glad you approve of my MMP work so far - coming from a real master of the flora menu like you, that's some high praise. Fox: Thanks, my friend! It definitely takes a lot of patience to make things really stand out in SC4, as I'm sure you know from experience. vivapanda: Thank you! My, my, where has the time gone? Well, to some extent, it went right past me as I got settled in a new home and started studying accounting, but still - it sure has been a while since I last posted in here! Also, as I hinted in my reply to City_Master, getting SC4 to act like a historical city-builder isn't exactly easy, even with some help from more capable modders. Still, I hope to get back on the road with my historical updates of Nyhaven soonish. Meanwhile, I have a little something for you from the new version of Kendall, specifically the Parliament House and its surroundings: Click it for the full-size picture!- 1,188 Replies

SimCoug: Thank you, my friend! Great idea about the museum visit - I'll see if I can work something in that fits. City_Master: Thanks! You can read more about that rock in that preview, and you'll be seeing it many more times in the future (and even today!). vivapanda: Thank you! I'm glad you like the Ebenezer. It seemed appropriate to me to use it to justify the square's existence. 976: Thanks! All those buildings are on the STEX; most of them should show up if you search for "Times Square". September 1, 1580 "Land ho!" I could scarcely believe mine ears. After many days at sea, our long journey eastward was finally nearing its end! It had been weeks since we departed the shores of Shushtrepistaz, and months since our party had left Odense. Now, at last, our destination was before us! After entering the mouth of the great river, we sailed until we came upon an island which looked promising. The captain gave the order to bring all the people and animals ashore. This task being completed, we held an assembly and agreed to call our new home Nyhavn, for it was our aim to build a harbour here. The captain then turned to me and said, "Bror Henrik, thou art to take men with thee and spy out this land into which we are come. Seek thou out the natives of the country and note their villages, and find thou streams whence we may get fresh water." Once I had chosen men to accompany me, we set out across the island. After journeying some distance through the forest, we found a great stone, which we noted before moving on. Further on, we arrived at the shore of the island and spied an Indian village across the water. We crossed over to it and tried to speak with the people therein. After much difficulty, we learned that they called the place Cathlamet, and that there were other villages like their own in the country. A path led northward from the village across a creek. Following it, we rose many feet above the water which we had previously crossed. Therefore, we named this path the High Road. The High Road ended at a river some miles north of Cathlamet. We therefore hauled our boat into the river and sailed upstream. The water was calm and slow-moving at first, for the land was exceedingly flat. However, at length we sailed into a gorge. The hills to either side of us were lofty, and the current slowed our progress. The gorge was short, though, and before too long, we entered a broad valley. We eventually arrived at another Indian village, and after another difficult conversation, we learned that it was called Elochoman. We therefore called the river and the valley by the same name. We turned around and sailed back down the Elochoman River, eventually returning to the water which separated our island from the mainland. It seemed fitting to us to then name this water Elochoman Slough, and we continued northward along it until we returned to Nyhavn. The following day, we set out again, this time to the north, for we desired to climb a great mountain which was visible in that direction. After much climbing, we reached the mountain's summit, which afforded us spectacular views of the land and the river. Seeing an Indian village to the west, near the great river, we descended the mountain in its direction. When we came unto the village, we endeavoured to speak to the people therein, who told us that they called their village Skamokawa. Having brought with us goods this time, we traded with them, receiving cooked fishes to carry back to Nyhavn. Upon our return thither, we partook of these fishes and found them to be of excellent taste. We then thanked the Lord for His great providence and joined the others in setting up our new home.- 1,188 Replies

Preview 2: Ebenezer Square
woodb3kmaster commented on woodb3kmaster's City Journal Entry in Nyhaven, Lower Columbia (AIN)
ThomasSimpson: Thanks, Thomas! Yes, unfortunately, a DarkNite render of that buiding has not been released. MamaLuigi945: Thank you very much! TowerDude: Thanks, Greg! TekindusT: Thank you, my friend! I'm flattered by the comparison with Times Square (which was what I was aiming for). NMUSpidey: Thanks! I definitely agree, backstories really add flavor to a city, and I wish more people used them in their CJs. You'll be seeing a lot of backstories in the making in this CJ. JCmustng11: Thank you! That's one of my favorite buildings from this preview. ImanRafidin: Thanks! Gurning_Chimp: Thank you! The Regal Theatre is available on the STEX, as is that tower (which is One Astor Plaza). ErwinNegentigNo2: Thank you very much! The lots for the square itself are my own work. nas786: Thanks! That building is The Crown, which is currently unavailable while its creator works on an improved version of it. -
Preview 2: Ebenezer Square
woodb3kmaster posted a City Journal entry in Nyhaven, Lower Columbia (AIN)
Thanks for the encouragement, folks! Today's preview is about Ebenezer Square, the heart of Nyhaven's Midtown district. Ebenezer Square is home to many of Nyhaven's theaters and nightclubs, and it has gratuitous advertisements. This is the northern half of the square, between 10th and 12th Streets. Ebenezer Square gets its name from this large stone, which itself is simply called "The Ebenezer" (from the Hebrew for "stone of help"). It has stood here since before Nyhaven was founded and is the reason the square exists at all - Ebenezer Avenue has to split to go around it, resulting in a one-way couplet on the square's long sides. Since the mid-18th century, each Mayor of Nyhaven has had the Ebenezer engraved with his favorite inspirational biblical passage at the end of his mayorship as a gift to the city. There's also plenty of shopping to be done here. Ebenezer Square is home to the flagship of Lower Columbia's other major department store, Visby's, as well as a large urban mall and Nyhaven's largest Toys 'R' Us. (This picture shows the southern half of the square, between 12th and 14th Streets.) At night, Ebenezer Square comes alive. People pack the theaters, and the clubs stay open until the wee hours of the morning. -

1013: Thanks, Ace! This is doubtless no surprise, but I quite like that 747 too. GreekMan: Thank you, Chris! Yes, I think it's fair to say that this vacation lasted long enough. Blakeway: Thanks, Juls! I'm guessing you mean these runways. Unfortunately, they're just photoshopped diagonal taxiways from the RMIP-2.4. TekindusT: There certainly have been quite a few of those, and you're right that they're incredible. Thanks for the kind words! SimCoug: Thank you very much! You can be sure I'll be applying some lessons I've been learning from New SorGun in my project! bluemoose: Thanks, my friend! I'm glad you like the square and its surroundings. Mayorm: Thank you! It really is a great BAT, isn't it? Before I completely close the book on Nyhaven 2.0, I have a couple things to share from it. First off, here's a map I put together that shows the paths of all the streets and highways featured in the Nyhaven Excursions: Finally, it's time for the long-overdue conclusion of the Franconi family vacation! This is the third and final part of their vacation story; you can review Parts 1 and 2 and respectively. Now then, time to bring Nyhaven 2.0 to a close! All images in this update come courtesy of my friend emgmod, so if you like these cities, make sure to thank him for making this update possible! Our vacation in Illu'a had been great so far, and we had had lots of fun in Strathmore and Palmona. Now it was time to see more of the country. After a long ride through the mountains, our train finally arrived at Daloa Station early in the afternoon. The city of Daloa had recently opened the first phase of its light rail system, so taking it across town was a no-brainer. After two fairly short stops through the inner city, the tram arrived at Daloa University, in the historic heart of the city. The line ended here for now, so we disembarked and began exploring the campus. At the university visitors' center, we learned that the buildings of the university had stood since 1804. They remained as reminders of Daloa's past, even as the city around them changed ever more rapidly. Not too far away was the government sector, so we decided to just walk over and explore the area. The Provincial Courthouse and the Governor's House were our first stops. Watching the local government at work, we realized that Illu'a wasn't all that different from Lower Columbia, despite our countries' different government systems. By the time we made our way to the old City Hall, the sun was low in the sky. However, it wasn't too late for us to tour the building, which had been converted into a museum to Daloa's history. Inside, we got to see the very chamber where King Tristan of Lower Columbia (the great-grandfather of the reigning King Zachary) and Illu'an President Henry Edwards signed the treaty ending the Puget Sound War. The Puget Sound War was fought back in the 1890s over the treatment of the residents of the Puget Sound area, which had recently become part of Lower Columbia. When we saw the museum exhibit on the war, my dad couldn't help but tell us the war stories he had heard from his grandfather, who had fought in the war. It was the only time in history that Lower Columbia and Illu'a ever went to war. We were fortunate enough that the Regents Hotel, Daloa's world-famous accomodations, had a room available that night. We would need a good night's sleep in order to make our train to Colbitz the next morning. The next day, we bade Daloa farewell and boarded our train for the Illu'an capital. Once we arrived in the city, our first destination was the Colbitz International Marketplace. This street market was legendary for its high-quality goods, so it only made sense to pick up a few sounvenirs here. Of course, since we were in the national capital, we simply had to visit National Boulevard, where all of Illu'a's federal buildings were located. We saw the president's house in Presidential Circle (top right), got great views of the Illu'an Supreme Court building (left), toured the exhibits at the National Museum of Illu'a (center right), and took a tour of the Illu'an Senate Building (bottom). By the end of the day, it was time to head for the airport and board our flight back to Nyhaven. We were exhausted after such a busy day, but we had still had a wonderful time. We knew this visit to Illu'a was a vacation we would never forget.- 1,188 Replies

Welcome to Nyhaven 3.0! Some of you may be familiar with Nyhaven from the CJ forum, where it's been for the past 5+ years. For most of that time (except at the very beginning), I've shown you pictures of Nyhaven 2.0. While that version of Nyhaven is still playable, it's gotten difficult to squeeze in new construction projects. In addition, I want to try building Nyhaven from its historical beginnings in what could best be called a modified form of natural growth. However, since I'm still waiting to receive one last mod before I begin working on the historic Nyhaven, I thought I'd give all of you a preview of what the modern city will look like. So, without further introduction, here's the first look at Nyhaven 3.0! This first part of the new Nyhaven is Royal Square, the city's civic and transportation heart. Nyhaven Central Station (at the top) is right on the square, as are Old City Hall, the King Brandon II Royal Opera House, and the flagship department store of retailer Maison Blanc. Click on this picture to view it in full resolution (you can also use it as a desktop wallpaper if your screen resolution is 1920x1080). Turning around to face the opera house, I can't help but admire the great job that xannepan did on this BAT's nightlighting. Hmm, today seems to be a less busy day than I thought. Anyway, here's a wider day view to give a bit of context to the square.

Mastof: Thanks, although as LastTrueChamp wrote, it's really the CN Tower. Still, I'm happy to get your compliments! City_Master: Thanks! Nyhaven is certainly a busy city, isn't it? bluemoose: Thank you! I've had some trouble growing Nyhaven, but it's only ever difficult on large quads with large populations. Often, when I zone a new area in one of those quads, it won't develop at all unless I save and exit the quad, then come back and start developing another area. vivapanda: Thanks! LastTrueChamp: Welcome to Nyhaven, and thank you for the nice comment! Fox: Thank you, Fox! I'm glad you like them. TekindusT: Thanks! Yes, it's been a while since we've seen some tall buildings here, hasn't it? To start off June, I'm showing you all something different: a completely new version of Nyhaven, which is still a WIP. While the version I've been showcasing for the past five years is still playable, it's gotten difficult to squeeze in new construction projects. In addition, I want to try building Nyhaven from its historical beginnings in what could best be called a modified form of natural growth. This first part of the new Nyhaven is Royal Square, the city's civic and transportation heart. Absolutely fantastic! You photoshopped those pics just enough to make them really outstanding. Might I ask what that building with the Coca-Cola billboard is? (It's in the bottom-right corner of the first night shot.)

Fantastic work so far! I love how you've put so much effort into each scene, as well as the extra MMPs you've made. They all fit together so well! I'm wondering where you got those Indian BATs you made into MMPs, as they'd really come in handy in the next phase of my own CJ...

1013: Thanks, Ace! I'm glad you liked everything. GreekMan: Thank you, my friend! It's incredible to think that I've been updating Nyhaven for over 5 years now, isn't it? I can hardly believe it myself! emperordaniel: Thanks, Daniel! The R-50 was the whole point of the update, so I'm glad you enjoyed seeing it. sim_link: Thank you! Building that interchange wasn't easy, especially on the uneven terrain it sits on. I'm sure, though, that with enough practice, you'll be building great interchanges before long, too! SimCoug: Thanks! kj3400: Thank you very much! That's great praise coming from a fellow CJer like you. Benedict: Thanks, Ben! I'm glad you've liked these excursions so much. I hope you enjoy today's just as much! TekindusT: Thank you, my friend! You're right, it won't be long before Nyhaven and Kendall merge into a single metroplex. Or will it? I have news about Nyhaven that could change that, which I hope to reveal before much longer... We return to Nyhaven proper today with a shorter excursion than usual. This time, we're following Eighth Avenue, which mostly runs down Hunters Island through Midtown and Uptown before ending in the northernmost reaches of the inner suburb of Cathlamet. Eighth Avenue begins here at the Midtown Junction MetroRail station, where 15th Street turns sharply south to become Eighth. A couple of blocks to the south, Eighth Ave passes under the R-50 viaduct and enters Midtown Nyhaven. The guideway carrying the Port and Puget lines of the MetroRail passes over the busy interchange here. Between 20th and 30th Streets, Eighth Ave forms the backbone of the Midtown business district. A few of Midtown's many theaters are also located on Eighth. Here're some more office towers at 25th St, along with a major television studio. Further south, Eighth Ave turns southeast, paralleling the waterfront a few blocks to the west. This area is somewhat quieter than the chaos of Midtown to the north. Eighth passes near the residential highrises of Uptown near its intersection with 35th Street. Uptown is one of Nyhaven's most expensive inner neighborhoods, and addresses here are among the most sought-after in town. Eighth Avenue finally leaves Hunters Island just a few blocks north of the South Point Observation Tower. On the other side of Elochoman Slough, Eighth enters Cathlamet and narrows to two lanes before ending on Royal University's Nyhaven campus.- 1,188 Replies

Fantastic work! As Shadow Assassin pointed out, one of the lots (which I've discovered is the one with a single rowhouse) has the wrong growth stage - it's stage 1 instead of the stage 5 in the filename. I hope you'll upload a fixed version before too long, because they're arguably the best small rowhouses I've downloaded in quite a while.

sim_link: Thank you! I'm still fairly new to making nature scenery, so I appreciate your encouragement. kj3400: Heh, it certainly is disorienting to see such a change in Nyhaven, isn't it? Thanks for the kind words! Hampi: Welcome to Nyhaven, and thank you for the compliments! TekindusT: I suppose that's reasonable, since this is, after all, a city journal, but thanks for the compliments on that picture! It'll look a lot better the next time you see that scene. Benedict: Thanks, Ben! I'm glad you enjoyed the surprise. As for my avatar, it's really a weasel, and it comes from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgXy0fquj2g. vivapanda: Thank you! It'll be a while before you see any development around that river, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Schulmanator: Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. StanislavSoltys: Thank you, Stan! emperordaniel: Thanks, Daniel! Hopefully it won't be too much longer before we revisit that scene... My Name is Steve: Thank you, and welcome to Nyhaven! After much delay, it's time to wrap up our journey along the R-50 freeway! This last leg of our excursion will take us through Astoria all the way to the Pacific coast. Let's get started, shall we? Just outside Kendall's suburbs lies the town of Svensen. It's not much to look at, but this small town is the last stop before we enter Astoria's sphere of influence. The former, at-grade course of the R-50 splits off from the modern freeway outside the town, while this diamond interchange provides access to Svensen's commercial areas. It looks like Burger King almost has a monopoly on the local fast food market! Closer to Astoria, we come across the R-50's interchange with the R-301, Astoria's beltway. To the north, the R-301 gives access to the Tongue Point Naval Base and the Astoria Shipyards before ending near the Financial District. To the south, it is a bypass route between the R-50 and the R-1. Near central Astoria, the R-50 merges with the R-1 at this interchange. It continues to the south, multiplexed with the R-1, out of the central area. The R-1, meanwhile, dives underground further west to pass under the most historic parts of the city and resurfaces in the middle of the Columbia River estuary as part of the Astoria-Megler Bridge-Tunnel. The R-50 splits off from the R-1 again at this interchange and heads west (toward the bottom of the image). Passing through the suburb of Miles Crossing, the R-50 skirts Adventure Forest, the largest amusement park in the state of Pacifica (only its parking lot is visible above). A large parclo at Miles Avenue gives motorists easy access to the park. West of Adventure Forest, the R-50 meets Gray Parkway at this diamond, my first experiment with the FAD-44 puzzle piece introduced in RHW 5.0. It makes even diamonds look pretty! Eventually, the R-50 reaches Astoria International Airport, where its eastbound lanes cross over the westbound lanes to make the highway left-handed as it passes the terminal buildings. This setup lets cars stop in the right lane to drop off and pick up passengers at the central terminal building, which is connected by underground walkways to the satellite concourses. Finally, the R-50 downgrades to a pair of surface streets in the beach town of Clatsop Station. These streets (Center and Broad Streets) then end at Pacific Way, the road next to the beach. At long last, the R-50 reaches its western terminus! This horizontal mosaic shows an overview of the R-50's course as we've followed it; each number marks the place where the corresponding picture was taken. (The uneven terrain colors are due to my not having re-saved some of the quads after installing the Olympic Terrain Mod.)- 1,188 Replies

Nyhaven: Views From Within (AIN)
woodb3kmaster replied to woodb3kmaster's topic in SC4 City Journals
emperordaniel: Thanks! packersfan: Yeah, there isn't very much RHW in the built-up parts of Nyhaven/Kendall. The main reason, besides the limitations you mentioned, is that I built a lot of those MHWs before the RHW had much of any functionality beyond the very first parts of the MIS. In Astoria, however, you'll see nothing but RHW! vivapanda: Thank you! TekindusT: Thanks, my friend! I enjoy putting as much variety into my cities, so I'm glad you enjoyed this excursion. Congrats on your own Trixie! Benedict: Thanks, Ben! I've enjoyed putting these excursions together. Great job earning your Trixie! Sim_Link: Thank you! nathanthemayor: Thanks, and well done on your own Trixie! I still have a lot of work to do before I can post the last part of our excursion along the R-50 highway, so to keep things moving around here, I thought I'd share a few pictures of something you rarely see here in Nyhaven - nature! This is one aspect of SC4 that I don't have a lot of experience in making, but thanks to all the wonderful MDs out there with really fantastic natural scenery, I think I'm off to a good start. These pictures are my first experiments with a wide range of MMPs in a new (but still somewhat familiar ) region. This is the first region in which I've used seasonal MMPs. This region is in a part of the world dominated by evergreen trees, so I've kept the seasonal trees close to the river. My first attempt at a ford. So far, the region is nothing but unspoiled nature, so there are no roads or trails crossing the river here, but once I start developing the region, that'll change. I plopped a couple of rockslides in this gorge and tried to make them look realistic by not planting large trees between them and the cliffs. They aren't extremely recent slides, so there a couple of young trees that have sprung up recently. Finally, here's a WIP scene, dated to 1580. I hadn't yet downloaded any MMP boats or people when I set this scene up, but that'll change next time I enter this quad.- 1,188 Replies

SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks
woodb3kmaster replied to alvinheriadi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Source please. Btw, what is a new "quantum" highway placement system? Looks like your sarcasm detector is broken. On topic, here's a quote from one of my posts on the official SimCity forums: "I'd really like to see subway tubes at different depths and stations that actually take up space underground." IMO the way subways were implemented in SC4 was a bit lacking in realism, what with effectively point-sized stations and tunnels that intersected. Given the enthusiasm the Maxis team members have already shown in making the new SC a proper successor to SC4, I'm optimistic that the new game's subways will be more realistic. -
A timeline or More Tilesets?
woodb3kmaster replied to jigsaw's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I take it you haven't looked at the Origin store's page for SC13. There's already a "Digital Deluxe Edition" of the game on pre-order which will include three extra European tilesets - British, French and German - along with more transportation options to go along with each tileset. Even so, I agree that more options would be great, and I hope that Maxis will be quick to offer additional tilesets for download/purchase once SC13 comes out.
