  1. After nearly two years since the game been out, I decided to try it out. I got it from *unknown sources*. I will say that I am intrigued. The game isn't that bad I just wished the cities were bigger (like everyone does). I still have to get the raw resources thing down packed. I didn't know that it would take thousands of raw resources to make the International Airport. And it is hard to figure out what you want to specialize a city as. And do the resources ever run out? Like oil, coal and ore? There's some things about the game I don't get yet. And is it necessary to just eventually upgrade every street and avenue?
  2. Finally Tried It Out

I've managed to manipulate traffic a bit more. By not upgrading everything. And I tried better city specializations. A low down industrial city I made has no schools. Instead I made another city supply them with school buses. So the educated in my low city will eventually move away for better opportunities in the educated city. What I like about this one is that they have parks and recs for R$ sims. So if you set those down, it won't influence R$$ or R$$$. The game doesn't have the flaws but definitely has its perks. I feel that if the cities were allowed to be bigger, the game would actually be difficult. Lol Thanks for the resource info. Now I can plan ahead. I'm starting over because my cities got stagnant. One thing I can say is once you start exporting resources and goods, like later in your mature city, you start making a lot of money.
  3. One day I realized that the trees in my game lacked shadowing. So I'm like, what the hell? I go to the graphics menu to fix the rendering options: I put everything on high and I switched the rendering to hardware. Restarted the game, and the trees look perfect, but I start zoning houses and the lots look like the construction workers never got done. But when I switch it back, the lots are fine. I have windows 7. I'm thinking maybe there's something in the AMD Vision Engine Control Center. I don't know. Help would be appreciated much. Because I'm stumped.
  4. Brown Lots on High Graphics Setting

Alright I'll try all this out. I am somewhat familiar with OpenGL. I'll see how this goes. I've been going through a Simcity withdrawal. Lol
  5. Is this game worth buying?

I still haven't even bought the game but I observed a friend of mine from YouTube playing it. Dude lost 2 great regions in the mix.He even lost his city due to a random disaster. The servers I heard were improved, but they still totaled that game. And $60? Wow. They were fishing hard with that game.
  6. The Perfect Simcity 4 City

Okay, okay I'm gonna play more like a turtle now instead of a hare. I am trying to make the new region called, Sigmatron. It'll take a while because my aim is to have a booming population also. But I am trying to balance cities out. I am going to have a city that's ghetto but maybe have a richer city next to it. Since I have had this game I have always played on hare speed. I only go turtle once I "feel" that I have stabilized my city. Do you guys think playing on turtle will also calm down lot vacancies? I have trashed a lot of cities in the past. But maybe I should try tortoise speed this time. I'm going to keep everyone updated. But what is ironic is that when I played Simcity Societies and Destinations, I play on a slow speed.
  7. R$$ No Job Zots

I can't pin-point this for sure. But a weird thing has been happening. I don't know if it is the new NAM I installed or something, but in the very beginning of my game, I could zone as many InD jobs and Com jobs as possible and my R$$ residents would have the no job zot and start depleting. The R$ residents are fine (but in some odd cases will have some) but it is mostly the R$$ residents. Has anyone else had trouble like this? Could it be the new NAM? Because when I had the old NAM this would never occur. And also I don't have many mods on my game. Please help if you can. I'm trying to start a big region.
  8. R$$ No Job Zots

No. I wish I would've taken a picture. I've done nothing with them. This is the first few years of the game. I'd have like 3 or 4 R$$ houses at the most. R$$ can work at DI as well as R$. I would set down an elementary school. When these R$$ places get the No Job zot, it is like a domino effect. About half of my population claims to have no jobs but I would have the right amount of DI and CoS in the area. This is all in the beginning of the game. I did nothing with R$$. With my sims claiming to have no jobs this early into the game, growing a city isn't even possible--especially with the middle class struggling. I tested this out in many ways. But it is just impossible to not be able to stable a 500 sim population. I even put all the jobs next to eachother and the sims still couldn't find a job. I created my own custom region with this too. I'm trying to create Sigmatron. So I have the NAM 30 in the game. I wanna use the NAM 31 again but I'm afraid this same result will happen again. I'm going to keep an eye on this.
  9. The Perfect Simcity 4 City

Well most of you guys are experienced sim players. I haven't played that long. But my quest shall be to make the perfect city! I always wondered what speed to play it on. When I did the tutorial a while back, they kinda encouraged fastest speed. But it is a sight to see when you have it on slow and you see the buildings erect. Maybe slow speed is best after all. I think making a perfect city will take time.
  10. R$$ No Job Zots

It just seemed weird to me. I was started a whole new region; my first city. I connected my roads to the neighbors. But I don't think that should have mattered. Because I'd have a 500 sim population with a huge area of InD and CoS but the commute time would be long for R$$ sims. Then some of the R$ sims would chip in with the zots. That just doesn't seem like a normal issue. I switched back to NAM 30 and so far no red alerts. I've already noticed a few wrong things with NAM 31. It needs more work. I remember laying down a grand rail line, the graphics were glitched with neon RGB colors.
  11. R$$ No Job Zots

No problem. Everything is cool so far. I think it was the NAM 31. I went to NAM 30 and it's fine.
  12. EA: "DRM is a failed dead-end strategy"

This game had so much potential. It's sad. I like SC4 but they had a chance to make us put that game on the shelves. But now, Simcity 2013 will be on the shelves at the stores. Can't believe they charged $60 too. Civilization V didn't even cost that much. Will they ever come out with a better version than SC4?
  13. are you kidding me?

I remember that post but I think in that post they were trying a US server and not a European one.
  14. Is SimCity that bad?

Whatever dude. You got a reason to go personal? 5 posts and you make your conclusions based on profile photos... says more about your own level of retardness. Where were the Moderators when this happened? Dude came outta nowhere on Nique. never mind... I already saw the first post. You'd better hope they didn't or your gonna be on the naughty list and receive a lump of coal...

  16. Your worst fears, TRUE! READ!

I'll have a drink to that
  17. I'm not here to make fun of no one or put on a "I told you so" front, but I'm actually pissed for everyone who did buy the game. You could have taken that $60 or $80 and bought 3 or 4 different games. Not only were there 10 people displaying more cons than pros, but there were thousands of people saying the very same thing. If a thousand people are saying something's wrong, obviously you would want to consider it right? As of now I am reading that a lot of people can't even play the game. New PC games usually cost around $40-$50 depending--but they want $60 on this game. AND, $80 to boot for a deluxe edition containing building sets that would get modded into the game eventually. Yeah. Those guys are really trying to get paid this year. I am VERY happy I decided to do my research at the very last minute. I was looking on Gamestop.com and I saw a guy give the game a 5 on the rating meter. I was like, WTH? A 5?? Yeah right. This guy has a problem. But when I logged back in on here, and various other sites, the reviews were disappointing. I was very excited for this game--that I just assumed they'd get it right. But I was so wrong. I really hope you guys can get your money back. And if you got it from Gamestop it's most likely you probably won't. They don't accept used PC games.
  18. Grand Rapids MI

I stay in Kentwood. Grand Rapids is very diverse to create. Might be difficult.
  19. Will you buy Simcity 2013?

No I am not buying. It's a completely different game now. I tried to find ways to like the game, but keep running into ways the game will suck. Personally, I don't get what they were thinking. And they don't care about the creativity and original concept. Their job is to keep you connected online as long as possible so you can keep cranking out money on the DLC. If they improve things on the game then I might consider it for the future (assuming the servers are still up right?) but since they have so much stuff to work on, I don't think that'll happen most likely.
  20. Discussion about City Tile Size

They say the complexity of the Glassbox engine was one of the reasons. But yet it's been said that larger maps would be implemented later as DLC. Either the game can run bigger maps or it can't. Maybe they're working more on it.
  21. SimCity: Gameplay

It's just not the same game. I won't be buying. And the servers might get shut down before the game price goes down. I just can't see how people look at the list you just provided and is still willing to buy that game. But hey, it is what it is. We'll just have to see how it all goes after the release.
  22. I've just been getting mixed responses from other people. That's why I was going to wait a few days before the game came out. But if you make your private region, can you save to your own HDD, and will you have to go online to depend on resources and such? Is the private play going to be limited in any shape or form?
  23. All games are going to require online connection to prevent piracy. I understand. I just don't see why you just can't require online connection just for installation. But that's a different story. I learned the hard way when I bought Civilization V. I'm not trying to convince no one of anything. But it is evident that the game is heavily based on Internet play. If you are able to play Simcity 2013 as if you were playing Simcity 4 by yourself, then I wouldn't have much problem. You can't even save your own game to your HDD. I never heard of such a thing except if you were playing a browser-based game. I don't know. I'm not a fanboy of any sort--I think Simcity has some good qualities. But you have limited control over what you can do in the game. They put in a sandbox mode. But what's the point if you have to save it to their "cloud". And what about the resources feature? If you're playing single-player, you run out of resources, will you have to fetch for them online to another player?
  24. I play Civilization V--I bought it from stores. It requires Steam to play. An Internet connection. But with SimCity 2013 it's like they are totally forcing online play. What was the harm in an Offline Mode? Simcity was about planning and building you OWN city. Not planning and building to adhere to somebody else's region/city. The gameplay is all online-based. And when people (who don't know any better) buy this game they are going to see what they got themselves into. What was wrong with just having multiplayer optional? What was the harm in that? We already need the Internet and Origin just to play our own game, but yet, even if we choose their "single-player" mode, we'll still be limited and stagnant. I really had hopes for this game but they really bombed it. The CTD and troublesome commute times in SC4 was dark times, but now, those gritty times are starting to look even brighter...
  25. Well I've been playing the game for a while now but still haven't completed anything yet. I've tried numerous strategies to my liking but always end up with my sims not having enough jobs. I've tried a multitude of strategies to my knowledge and somehow I get stymied. When it comes to neighbor cities, the land size somewhat throws me off. For instance, if I have a Medium sized city next to two small sized cities, then what should the purpose of the small cities be? Should they be the same purpose? Should I make the Medium sized city for Residential and Commercial, and the two small cities Industrial? Sorry if it all doesn't seem clear. Basically, if a city is supposed to serve a purpose then how well could one accomplish that? And what is the best taxing system to use? Because once your Education go up, as well as health, R$$$ takes of the map and cause tons of trouble. I've even tried making a poor R$ city just with a few R$$ citizens and things still ended up bad. Please help anyone
