If you haven’t heard already, Microsoft plans to release the successor to Windows 7 (to be called Windows 8 ) later on this year. They say it'll be the biggest fundamental change they've made to the OS since 1995, and they're not kidding. They've completely removed the start button/ menu from the desktop and replaced it with a touch-oriented 'start screen' designed for launching their new full-screen metro apps. This start screen is what you see when you first boot up your PC. The desktop is still there, but it's been reduced to an 'app' that can be accessed through the start screen. You can get the gist of things from this Wikipedia article. I downloaded the consumer preview a little while ago. While there is some good stuff in there, IMO the metro UI is really hard to get used to and clumsy as hell to use with a mouse and even more so with a trackpad. If what I've seen so far is anything to go off, there's no real need to upgrade to Win8 on any laptop/ desktop, it's clearly been designed with touch/ tablets in mind and offers no real benefit on the traditional PC. Personally I'm starting to think that Win7 will be the last Windows OS I'll use on the desktop - something I'll always need for the CAD stuff I do. Hopefully by the time they stop supporting it there'll be something even better to use. I actually like Windows and want to keep using it... but not if it's designed for tablets. I reckon this could easily flop worse than Vista did. What you see when you turn the thing on: The desktop: So what do you guys think? Would you keep using Windows on your desktop/ laptop if it looked like this? Would you actually buy a Windows tablet in the first place? Will this be Vista all over again, even worse, or will it a big hit?

Cockatoo Presents… Emerald Plaza Model, Modding / Lotting, Custom Menu Icons & Readme – Cockatoo. Cheers to Amthaak for help with the pool! Overview: Taking a break from my usual HK stuff, I decided to make this. Emerald plaza is a building located in San Diego, California, consisting of 8 conjoined hexagonal towers. The building features a unique display of neon lighting around the edges of its roof in real life, which I’ve tried my best to re-create in the model. I’ve included a Dark truNite model for day/night mod users in addition to a regular Maxis truNite model for those who don’t. In this download there are three versions included. Growable stage 7 CO§§ providing 3147 medium wealth jobs. Growable stage 9 CO§§ providing 6292 medium wealth jobs (CAM) Plopable functional CO§§ providing 6292 medium wealth jobs. Plopable static landmark. The stats are as follows: It's all in the README. Dependencies: These are the files you need for these lots to be able to function in the game… • None! Installation: Copy the Cockatoo folder into the Plugins folder. Select whether to use the Maxis Nite (MN) or Dark Nite (DN) version, deleting the MN or DN folders accordingly. This package also includes the Christmas version of the building, but only for the DN version. If you want to use the CAM version, you must also copy the CAM folder. CO$$7_4x6_Emerald Plaza.SC4Lot = Growable CO§§ CO$$9_4x6_Emerald Plaza.SC4Lot = Growable CO§§ CAMeLot - you will find it on the PLOP_CO$$_4x6_Emerald Plaza = Plopable CO§§ PLOP_4x6_Emerald Plaza.SC4Lot = Landmark Any Issues? If you have any problems with my custom content, please send me (Cockatoo-210893) a private message at either Simtropolis or SC4Devotion.com. My BAT threads: ST, SC4D.- 100 Comments

I hope you're being sarcastic. This thread sucks.

One Nation. More like the Australian Lulz Party. Just finished watching the debate! Tony tony tony... so you're going to spend up, reduce taxes, keep the carbon tax reimbursements AND fix the budget deficit all at the same time? So apart from cheaping out on broadband, where's all this money going to come from then? Also did the ABC compass quiz thing. My results were pretty close to the ALP dot, as expected.

Hahahahahahah... and you all thought I wouldn't show. Wanted to wait one more but I have to go. Hamish is it.

Mark_Kochan pretty much summed them up perfectly. The two major parties policies are in essence so similar (despite their attempts to make it look otherwise) that most of us just vote on personality or something trivial we saw on TV. We live in a relatively stable country, people at radical ends of the spectrum don't have much influence voting wise, so IMO major party politics is as much about entertainment as it is about actually running the place! Because with only minor differences, they'll both probably end up doing the same things. I'm voting for Rudd because he's rock-star cool, doesn't take crap from anyone - even from his own party, and, he speaks Mandarin like a boss. Plus I live in his electorate so I might even get to meet the guy someday.

I believe the last time we checked the database, there were actually over 9000 registered users without any posts. Very interesting statistic that...

I think you've all waited long enough... go find your medal. http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/10/19/1523950/2012%20Trixie%20Medals.zip Whenever the admins decide to do it, these things should appear in your profiles.

Very interesting. Some people just have too many posts... I'd probably be dead (I really would!) before reaching 35,000 at my rate.

Have to disagree with you there (except for the part about Jason of course) . Some of the best BATers currently around have only been here for a relatively short amount of time. There's certainly no rule that says the best BATers, or masters as you put it, have to be the people who've been here for the longest or are the most known/ respected in the forums. Your skills are only a reflection of how much you know.

Once again, Australia's Prime Minister has changed. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/kevin-rudd-to-challenge-pm-julia-gillard-for-labor-leadership-tomorrow-morning/story-fni0cx12-1226670143790 Personally, I'm glad to see the last person in this country to convincingly win an election restored to the office of PM. But how will he fare in September against Abbott? I don't think there's any denying that Labour now has a better chance with Rudd than they ever did with Gillard, but can he pull it off?

Is that a Chaser reference? I believe it is. If so, +1. As controversial as that song was, it rung true.

My god, printing and scanning with OSX, sooo much eaiser than in Windows. It doesn't do certian things well, but man, for printing atleast, it blows Windows out ot the water! Couldn't believe it...
-
Basically, when you plug in the printer, it automatically recognises the model and goes online to find/ download/ install the appropriate drivers. One click and then away you go. And, no horrible 3rd party cannon type printing and scanning apps. It's all done through the centralised control panel. You just click scan and it scans for you. I was surprised because getting the printer to work on the same PC under Windows was a bit of a task. And then I plug it into the OSX side, thinking her...
-
...here we go, and yet it was so stupidly easy. MS would do well to integrate some sort of similar idiot proof system into Windows.
-
OK, a centralised scanning/printing panel sounds like a good idea alright. However, shouldn't a USB printer be recognised and installed automatically by Windows, too? It's been a while since I last meddled with printers. Maybe "should" is the dangerous word here...

85 He'll want to post at 1... so we need to time it so as he'll be asleep. That is, unless, we can't tempt him into posting now by asking NAM questions. Maybe someone even a serious bug report...
-
88 Completely random, but hey, we're supposed to talk about something. I just loaded up the latest NAM 32.3 to SC4. Often the game will crash if I attempt to drag a double-decker highway over a ground light highway without toggle mode on. The resulting intersection textures also appear to be messed up (you can see them just before the crash). The exception report says: 0x0000041F fatal error and the screen goes blue and then my PC restarts. Any recommendations on what I could do to fix that? Also, some of the menu icons appear to be pictures of cartoon horses with huge pink eyes. What's up with that? I sure wish one of the NAM developers was here to help...
-
Out of the box, SC3000 was the best IMO, better than unmodified SC4 by a fair bit. But SC4 has to take honers when you factor in all the 3rd party content available. As for 2013 being worse that Societies. Yeah... not quite. 2013 still has potential if ever opened up to the modding community. Societies was dead on arrival.

Is it possible to fix this kind of BAT modeling(?) issue?
Cockatoo replied to Magneto's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
This is a known issue, and it's relatively easy to fix. Jason added a section to the new BAT Mega FAQ that briefly covers it: See also: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3020.msg93585#msg93585 -
97 ^Actually you won the first round (in one post lol), members won the second round. So I believe that makes it Staff 1 - 1 Members.
-
6! Yeah, Yoshi missed the new page by the looks of it. Craig... you'd better hurry up!
-
True. Remember these two blokes bixel and paulvmontfort with their HKABT - total failure, not a single useful BAT. A misery. No you're wrong. The hong kong buildings are very useful for me because they are models for future city. That's the problem with you trolls and critics, you just don't have the morality to respect and appreciate nice BAT's and you couldn't do better. You have misunderstood T Wrecks' post. He was being sarcastic. This means that he said the opposite of what he actually meant. People sometime do this to add humor to a post, or to convey a message. T Wrecks is actually the person who has modded and lotted almost every BAT produced to date by Bixel and Paul. So, by insulting their works, by extension, he is insulting himself. That's your first flag that he's being sarcastic. Secondly, as a highly respected member of the community, it's highly unlikely that he would ever insult another BATer in such a fashion. That's your second flag. You need to learn to recognise these things... Also, while it's true that T Wrecks doesn't BAT himself, the second part of your response was unnecessarily rude. You don't have the right to talk to people like that, at all, even if you are confused by what they've said.

77. I think we've picked an easy target... isn't he away or something? Prove me wrong Craig!

Count down from 10,000 until Dirk posts.
Cockatoo replied to GeometryMath Algebra's topic in Forum Games
I think a better one would be 'count down from 10000 until Dirk posts'. It's a great idea for a thread but somehow I think there are just too many mods and/or NAMers around. -

^ Do you all have the symbol in your avatar? Off the top of my head I can actually only think of 1/2 people who might work on the NAM? Oh well, maybe if you just say reset or something that'll be enough. -

Haha you'll never get past 95 I guarantee it. Also, how do you confirm who is or isn't a NAM team member (maybe list in the first post or something)?
