  1. GLR on Avenue Stations

Originally posted by: owenluby Warrior: No, in Melbourne, most tram lines have tram stops, not stations. Stops would be much simpler to design. When they're crossing, all cars stop to allow safe crossing of the road. Stations would be too cluttered to fit on avenues unless the lanes were modified. Here is a link to a tram stop. When you click on it you will see just a tram line. There is a tram stop right there, I know because I live close to there. http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=balwyn,+vic&ie=UTF8&t=k&om=1&ll=-37.814255,145.091951&spn=0.002975,0.005021&z=18&iwloc=addr It would be great if we had both stops and stations!quote> It'd be quite simple to do that... Instead of using a building, you'd just put in a sign somewhere (you need to know it's a stop somehow!). And does anybody else think that this is waaaay too narrow for a safe on-avenue tram station/stop? It just looks really really unsafe to me.

Can anyone tell me what it is that I might have done wrong? Even if you could just point me into a vague direction, otherwise I'll have to do a trial and error, line by line testing thing and I don't think I can listen to "Challenge Everything" over and over again. I just can't.quote> LOL. BTW, you can turn the intro off. Just add -intro: off to your shortcut (without the space between the : and the o and without the quotation marks. Saves the sanity of us modders (I dabble from time to time), lotmakers, and regionmakers.
  3. Cammo's Mapping and Cartography Studio

*cough* *hack* Hi *cough* *blows dust off thread* Boy, it has been a while since I've done anything of this sort. I'm currently working on a rendition of the Central Coast Region. No image yet, as I'm still doing a few retouches to certain areas on the map. I'm also moving to .SC4M format with this release. Everything else was done the old way until I got into SC4 Terraformer, but this eliminates all of that fiddling around with height .dat files for you end user folks. It does mean registering over at SC4Devotion's LEX to grab SC4Mapper... I'll post the link in short order. EDIT: (Click thumbnail for largish preview).
  4. We Love SCS!

The idea of implementing a societal element probably is due for SimCity, but they've gone about it the wrong way. I get the feeling, though, that there was a last minute change of direction. As in very last minute (which would explain why the screenshots look so raw. I do like the yellow brick roads though, they look nice. I wouldn't mind a ped mall with tiles like that, actually.

The QX6600 is the best of the bunch of course, being quad-core, but the Duo's are no slouch either. The bottom of the line Core 2's even give the top of the line AMD chips a run for their money. That doesn't mean the AMD chips are BAD, but they've got nothing on Core 2 at the moment.
  9. UDI (U-Drive-It) Feature

Yeah, I'd personally give the missions a miss, but I do drive around my cities occasionally in SC4, and I've seen people work the UDI option into their CJ's quite well.
  10. Sim City: in a new direction

If a decision they make causes them to make less money than previously, they will generally change their strategy. If SCS's sales charts aren't up to par with Sim City 4's, they'll most likely give the project for Sim City 6 back to the guys they know can make money, Maxis. Capitalism is a beautiful thing.quote> No, what'll happen is they'll decide: "The genre must be tapped out. Time to put the franchise to bed." Notice that most games stop after about 5 iterations (besides sports games). *performs last rites on SimCity series* Now, I'm not saying SimCity 4 is dead at all. But I think this'll be it if it turns out to be as crap as it seems to be.

Don't worry, there will be some sort of walls on the elevated ones--I've basically just been trying to figure out what and how. It's actually been perhaps the biggest factor delaying the project. I do have some interesting things planned for the ground ones, which I hope to show soon. -Tarkusquote> Three words: Keep it simple.

I'm finding myself using it all over the place, it's one of those great "filler" buildings, that also rather conveniently stands out in the smaller, suburban skylines. I was surprised how well it looked adjacent to your theatre building (immediately to the left of it). In fact, it works so well that it looks rather like an extension containing offices. I'm actually quite happy with how that section of the CBD turned out full-stop. The block over the road from the Sojot in particular looks like a staged-out convention centre and office development that had myriad delays due to DA issues, strikes etc.
  13. vda Amsterdam Westerstraat 130 146

Wonderful. It's so great having you back uploading again. The vanderaap folder is very very full in my plugins folder.
  14. World Theatre

The only thing letting this one down is the textures. I'd really like to see you revisit this one at a later date. With good textures, I think it'd fit in quite well among the best W2W out there. The roof texture looks good though. One suggestion for the future: add posters on the blank walls. It'll create interest, and isn't at all unrealistic, particularly if one of the walls is exposed to a corner.
  15. NYC Subway Station Pack

Well done, they look great, though a capacity of more than 2,000 would have been nice (2,000 is waay too small for my cities). But I can fix that easily enough in SC4Tool, anyhow, so it's a minor thing.
  16. Jason's BATs & Tutorials

" /> Thought you might like to see your building in use.
  17. I really am looking forward to the MIS (and the wider one-ways, too, that's been one of those niggling little things that's always bugged me). One thing about the MIS though - I sure hope you're planning to put walls up on the elevated ramp sections - they look like a liability suit waiting to happen as they stand. You could leave the ground based ones alone though.
  18. Show us your city, road or transit maps!

    He does, GreekMan.
  19. SPAs Urbanist BAT Thread

Great work. I didn't mind the dark windows on Perk's (which I use regularly in my smallish ribbon shopping centres, btw) but I do have to admit, it does look better. Kensington Plaza looks a world better. All of the changes are extremely subtle, but when you look at the new vs the old, the new one has a LOT more "life" if you know what I mean. The more saturated colour for the texture really does make the new texture. Province House Credit Union looks great, but for some reason the roof texture seems a little too busy. It definitely has that "bank/credit union" feel to it, though.
  20. Prime Tower

The only thing that lets this down really is the lot. But given that it'd probably disappear amongst my downtowns anyhow, it's not really a huge issue. Great building.
  21. BLaM Park Place Mall

...Shouldn't there be a dependency then?
  22. Greenville, SC - Sprawl at its Worst

Just looking at that interchange (circled above) gives me a headache. And the sprawl, of course, is horrendous. It happens here, too, though on a smaller scale. Not in this area of Sydney, because it's literally built out, but there are two huge chunks of area that have been set aside for suburban sprawl in the South West and North West of Sydney, which are already very heavily car-dependant areas...
  23. BlaM Transportation Utilities Pack V1

Looks great, but what are the capacities?
  24. BLaM Oriental sidewalk mod

Great idea... But when I click the download link I get a page of strange text. Did you upload a RAR by any chance? ST doesn't like them.
  25. Railroad Signal Lots

Great work. The crossover is much needed - will make situations where I'd prefer a 1 platform station look more realistic.
