I seems like some good city simulation but it still doesn't change the fact that you can't do region play or even place highways and railways where you want. Plus the graphics are lame and plastic-ey looking - I wanted realism like SC4.

Well, you should consider that SC4 doesn't look THAT much realistic without the custom content.

This video sealed the deal for me. I pre-ordered.

PS: This is the most beautiful and detailed Sim City I've ever seen! The little guys picking up trash and the familes walking back and forth between the moving truck and the new homes to move in haha.

If you don't have something nice to say... atleast one good thing to say , even if it is in the middle of your negative opinion , then don't say it. It is annoying and repetitive to see all the same comments regarding identic issues in every news post in this website.

    Always the same:

    "Online Only no buy"

"EA wants this to be a cash cow"

"This is made for spoiled retarded teenagers"

    "Seems fun to play! NOT"

It is tiring and pissing many people of.

3 thing that dissapoint the most of the fans over and over and over is:

    - Small maps

    - Online only

    - Cloud storage

We want Maxis to atleast make bigger maps and actually own our creations. Why do you think we give negative feedback? We want this game, we want it to be good, so we keep repeating what we find wrong with it!

And for the easy gameplay factor, Simcity and Settlers have been my blueprint learning tools from my early years to my current managment position, if you take away the challanges, next generations will think les strategicly.

There must be a lot I haven't seen about this game yet because this is a lot of doom and gloom over one quick demo. What information do we have that gives foundation for everyone's worries about only small regions/cities?

I really liked what I saw in the video.

Perhaps you haven't been following the forum since the announcement. A lot of early stuff made it clear that this is a new game, and is aimed at a new market, not us.

I wouldn't mind having this as an extra game to play if it were not so clostly, and there was a native mode for my O/S. They've already announced a MAC version, so a Linux version wouldn't be very diffiult to produce from that. After all, we are dealing with a small core of code and a large number of data tables.

Both Linux and MAC are on the same x86 platforms, so I don't see any real barrier except the expense of the necessary conditional compilation statements in the makefile(s). They say they have programmers. I didn't hear them say 'Microsoft programmers'.

With all the obvious visual update, I can't help feeling it's kind of a big step back in gameplay - in coparison with what SC4 allows now with all the custom content we have. And, after the initial admiration (if any) of the new graphic goes away, all the player may be left with is a very limited gameplay (worsened by the online only option), the "dollhouse" graphic. Besides, how many do really play SC4 without the cheats now, which allow you to afford to create a dream city you want to see? (that's what the new game won't let you, I'm afraid)

Yes but the potential was there, SC5 isn't going to allow that kind of visual realism due to the bright. plastic look of the graphics

    it plays like Tropico...

And Tropico is a great game =). Perhaps the only thing I'm annoyed with, especially in Tropico 4, is the facebook and twitter integration (Something I hope will never be implemented in a game the likes of SimCity).

    No use to fear reality...

it will happen, I can guarantee that, I dont have proof but Simcity social proves it >.<

Yes, Tropico is a great game but the scale of it is too small...also I don't have to be connected to the internet to play it.

I think the game is coming along nicely and looks great. There are obviously some issues/omissions, but on the bright side, I think most of these can be addressed by expansion packs. Two immediately come to mind:

    Urban Planner

An expansion pack giving us regional planning capabilities (laying out rail lines, freeways, determining where major works should be, etc), larger city sizes, terraforming at the city and regional level, and that sort of thing.

    Rush Hour

Just like SC4, an expansion pack giving us transportation options like freeways, interchanges, subways, monorails, additional road types, etc.

All in all though, like I said, I'm excited about the progress.

I'm sure they will release expansions. They make it with every game and i'm sure they'll do this time too.

The map is smaller than I imagined. The sense of size is terrible. The lack of pipeline and transmission towers bother me too much.

That kind of "regional map" is pathetic. I did not like the automatic layout of avenues.

Lot sizes seems to have been limited to just one. It's a step backwards.

Pathetic rail intersection. Where are the freeways? Ferry? Subway?

The good thing is that the city seems alive and dynamic. The graphics are silly, but ok for now.

I remain the same: I do not expect anything of this game.

Hey guys. I've been a real critic of those naysayers out there who have been slamming this game without having played it at all. I still think its foolish to throw this game in the trash without having played it, but I was mixed about what I saw.

    Successes:

    • Flexible design - Saw this in action and liked it

    • Improved zoning intelligence - Love that the new game places zones better than SC4 did

    • Transit-based connectivity - I enjoy not having to lay water and electric

    Opportunities

    • Poor transit realism - 90-degree rail turns, no highways, lack of subways, etc. Was that a roller coaster or a rail line (7:56)? Maxis needs to step up in this area.

    • Poor graphics - Am I watching SimCity or Starfox? When zoomed in, you can clearly see details lacking. I'm hoping things looked more polished closer to the ship date. I'm not too concerned though as in my business projects, things like this come in the end, not the beginning.
