About this City Journal

Prologue

It's been several years since my last city journal, and like many over the years, life has gotten in the way, hard drives have stopped working, old cities have been lost forever, even new formats to play SimCity 4 have come and gone. Lately, I've been watching a lot of YouTube gaming, and it has me inspired once more to create something of my own. Enter Cities Skylines: I've been playing a city off and on over there recently, and the traffic was starting to bug me significantly. One thing lead to another, and before long I realised that my Windows 10 version was un-modifiable. I had ruined my city, and quite frankly, lost all inspiration in the vanilla game.

Luckily, I still had my copy of SimCity 4 from GoG. I finally decided to load up the game, plug in some mods, and get to work. Fairview may not amount to much, admittedly. Life is busy, things get in the way. Although, I am super inspired to chip away at the region, and make something unique, and hopefully interesting over time. The classic region of Fairview has always been fond of me, and I've always easily imagined a major city being built in the south-west of the mainland in the region, a goal I intend to develop over the course of this journal.

Another point to note: Although mods can bring much to the game, I'm playing with relatively few, as the vanilla world has always inspire me enough just the way it is. Of note, I'm playing with, and experimenting with, NAM, and the SPAM, as well as a select few mostly cosmetic mods.

Finally, depending largely on how far my inspiration stretches, as well as the success of this Journal, I have been considering launching a gaming YouTube channel for sometime, of which SimCity 4 will undoubtedly be one of a few games I'd play regularly on the channel, but we'll see what's to come yet...

We begin the Fairview story in the Southlands of the region, specifically South Ridge: a fertile valley nestled between two rolling hills. This area offers a significant starting point in the lead up to taking on the planned city center in a future post. With plenty of room to expand, the suburbs and towns are fairly lightly populated. The main benefits of the region are plenty of farmland, with easy access to nearby harbors, offering processing and storage facilities, as well as export facilities. Vast...
