Entry 71 -- Progress Update on Cindersville

Entry 71 -- Progress Update on Cindersville

So I've made a huge push on the north-eastern corner of Cindersville. I can say it is definitely halfway done as I move around the mountain which dominates this area, eventually I will tackle the very top of the mountain itself. Finally, if you're wondering why the teaser picture is taking longer to load up that is because it is a PNG image. I deliberately used PNG to preserve the image quality as the JPEG version caused the flowers to blur.

Anyway, here are further pictures from the new areas I've been working on.

Have a good weekend!

{---}

I'm working on the areas around this mountain.

2.F8x7if.jpg

I had to extend some areas to flesh out the villages and some outer parts of Cindersville.

4.t9XcmB.jpg

The first thing I start with is laying down the trails and paths.

5.Ho4UvI.jpg

Then I work on the MMPs within the area defined by each set of paths.

6.79djsB.jpg

One of the major northern routes leading into Cindersville required a lot of work.

MMP street...

The dark green plants are MMP ferns I use from the VIP Rural Pack. They are slow to place down and this adds time to the whole process.

I also had to extend out the meadows as well. While that dry river bed is actually not a dried-up river/stream, instead it is the aftermath of a flash flood which caused severe top soil erosion and a mini landslide.

10.pe72ZS.png

Another PNG picture to showcase the brillance of Girafe's roses.

11.hgOr4P.jpg

And here is Mattb325's Ben Rose House. And this is why I go crazy on the MMPs because in the end they start to blend with the trees, plants and textures of actual lots.

12.IRrVDm.jpg

The transition between deciduous and coniferous forest.

13.Co43aX.jpg

There are four MMP types: flora, water, rocks and props (sims, cars and the little things like that). I reckon the hardest MMP is rockwork.

14.Q0CSuj.jpg

This picture is pure MMPs!

15.Ekl4dr.jpg

I actually added MMPs, forests and brackon to the bottom half of the mountain as before all this it was simply a sheer rock face which didn't look right.

16.RB0loV.jpg

I've had this winding road for almost two years. Only now is the area around it complete!

{---}

Right, that's it for today. I'll be back in late September as by then Cindersville will be complete and one outstanding project can be crossed off!

Enjoy the weekend!

I'm enjoying that nice flash of color that the roses bring.  The MMP street is a nice touch too.  Good work!

So beautiful! I always love your entries. Please tell me you're not implying this journal will come to an end soon?!

Korver is the MPP Master as he does it all... But I do like MMPs and creating natural areas. Thanks for your comment!

I would use different flowers if they were available, unfortunately they're not HD and they are nearly always ground textures. Also the MMP was a spur-of-the-moment thing as the original plan was to create driveways which connected to the main road.

The Journal is coming to an end once Cindersville, Travis City and the Big Mango is complete. Travis City is something I want to complete anyway as its a spacious rural town with gently sloping hills in the south. While the Big Mango is my New York creation and I plan for the Big Mango to be the final SC4 project and the city where I say farewell to SimCity 4. The only thing stopping the Big Mango from being completed is the lack of diagonal brownstones, but I have a plan to ask a BAT creator (or two) to help me out here in a collaborative effort (they create and I test, we jointly promote the new buildings) .

Once the Big Mango is complete there will be easily 20+ entries to be made as it has proven to be the most fun I've ever had building with SC4. But once done there's even greater things ahead: Cities: Skylines. That game will be my city building medium and in a year's time I will be upgrading my PC to be able to run that game. I've seen so many youtube videos of Cities: Skylines are there's many projects I want to do: the classic mid-rise American city, building Manhattan Island, a recreation of my home town Darlington, building purely rural areas, massive industrial complexes, a recreation of Teesside, even recreating parts of the Lake District, etc.

Originally I had a Cities: Skylines CJ before the expansions, and the modded content, became too much for my PC to handle. The refined builds you see of C:S youtubers I was attempting in 2015 and early 2016 working with a far more vanilla game, where every mod was a gamble and a venture in the unknown. I made my own small contribution to the C:S communities evolution via reddit posts and Simtropolis. I was testing out everything I could even though the mods had not covered the limitations of the game: lack of retaining walls, inability to move anything around, inability to tweak object sizes and redine object geometry, lack of good quality flora, lack of good quality buildings, lack of decals, lack of road markings on intersections, lack of merge lanes, etc.

But now Cities: Skylines has become a game where anything can be built and some time in 2021 I will be exploring this game. It will become my defacto city building medium.

I see you still using my MMP's amazing work! Well done!

You're MMPs are really useful for rural settings and for sprucing up villages! Thanks again for your MMP pack- a rarity but a true gem!
