Greater Terran - A SimCity (2013) Journal By Haljackey

My CJ Career gets a new lease on life with a new game.

Yup, you heard that right. I'll be returning to city journaling for the first time since 2009 (nearly 4 years!)

If you aren't familiar with my CJ work with SC4, see HERE and HERE. I am a 'Best City Journal' Trixie award-winner (among many others) and am known for dense, sprawling cities with intricate and massive transportation systems- both for cars and mass transit.

Keep in mind, this is the first time I have used the revamped CJ section on Simtropolis, so I still have some learning to do :P.

At the moment we are all in the experimental stages of SC13, playing around with the game to see what works for us and how to overcome obvious obstacles like tile size. This first entry is meant to be an introduction to my play style of the game, which will be inspired by my gameplay in SC4, along with space-saving city planning techniques to get the best utilization possible for the game's limited city sizes.

With all that out of the way, let's get to the pics. Click them for full size!

Probably my best pic so far. Skyline rising.

And not just downtown... Cranes are everywhere.

Yo dawg I heard you like image filters:

This filter makes the mine look so lousy

Cool filter shot of a bustling high density streetcar avenue intersection

I'm starting to attract some high-wealth sims and their shiny buildings now littler the cityscape.

The middle class is starting to get some density too... developing at the city tile edge.

This grinds my gears every time I see it. WHY???

As a bonus, here is a recap of a stream I did on SC13's launch night. I don't get very far, lose everything about 35 mins in.

Expect video content to be a major component in this CJ. My Twitch/Youtube stuff is starting to get a massive following.

Anyways hope you enjoyed. The GTR is back baby!

Great to see one of the masters of CJing with a new endeavor. I like the filters - the one used on the streetcar image is great, gives it a 1950s feel.

Even though there's a lot of trouble caused by the always online thing (of which I used to be optimistic), these screenshots made me think that it's worth it. The game itself is beautiful.

If the game didn't forced you to play in a server that may or may not crashfrom the amount of people trying to play at the same time, I'd totally enjoy it. I'm not saying that I won't get this game at all. I'm totally getting it, but I'll wait until the servers are completely fixed.

Very interesting, great work! :D

I personally don't like the graphics of the game I've seen so far, and the recent screenshots haven't helped, but regardless, this is pretty good work. Kudos! :D

Hey, great to see Terran back, and in SimCity 2013!

Even in the new game, it still looks like Terran!

After seeing the video, I thank God that I have learnt about the limited tile size before release, which made me cancel my pre-order. Because the always on issues would have costed the last bit of my patience. Such as cr...p....

The only SC13 I imagine I'll ever see is right here on ST.  It looks like you're managing to work with it as well as could be done, though.  The relatively dense development is true to the GTR flavor I remember, and I bet the 6-lane avenues with streetcar tracks included in the game were inspired by the GLR-in-AVE of SC4.  The city hall looks nice, but it's a little unusual to me to see a heli pad on the city hall grounds.  Good work, Hal!

GTR is back! Woot woot! It'll be interesting to see you adapt to the manifold limitations of the new game and keep the look you want.

Umm is that bus... driving on the wrong side of the road?

Oh, it looks pretty. I mean close-up shots would make you forget how small your city is.

Growing grass on road must be one of those eco-friendly roads, but the reality is you can't use deleterious materials to make concrete in general as they create cavities after they decompose.

i dont like it

graphics are realy poor for new zoomed simcity

Couldn't agree more. I get so dissapointed everytime I see images of the new game. Your photos are great but the games graphics look awful. It looks very cartoonish and unfinished like what you would see In a toddlers game. I cancelled my pre-order when I saw the video Maxis uploaded about the last trailer. It looks like I will continue playing the great SC4 until the proper "sequeal" finally comes out. Cheers

I somewhat agree with the game's criticisms, but there are ways you can get it to look good... You just have to work for them and find the best angle :P

That is a bus performing a U-turn, which they can do from all 3 lanes. It makes no sense whatsoever. They can also turn left from the far right lane. Because f*ck logic.
