Greater Terran #1: Region Selection and First City

Well here it is... The first 'update' of Greater Terran.

As always, click images for full size!

Decided upon the region: Discovery Delta.

Discovery_Delta_Region.png

The first city I chose was 'Spooner Plains', a city tile with some coal and a lot of oil.

It's a very 'green' city, welcoming visitors by letting them drive into 3 foot tall grass blades.

Seriously, why all the grass?

At least there isn't as much at the other entrance:

My initial city setup. Wind blows toward the north so that's where I have my industrial zones located. A coal mine has also been set up to provide coal to my power plant.

While a small town, it still has its problems. The lineup for health care is out the door:

And fires are little rampant as most of my residents aren't very educated and don't know not to play fire:

...But overall it's a nice town. Here's a look at the main intersection with the mountains in the distance:

I'm also starting to extract the vast oil deposits as well:

...And of course a the video component. I livestreamed/commentated on everything you see above, so you can see how I built it. The playlist should continue after every part below:

If not, direct link:

Update 2 will be a continuation, showing further development of the oil fields and town growth.

Thanks for your feedback from the initial entry! I appreciate the comments, positive or negative (as long as they're constructive lol)

Anyways thanks and hope you enjoyed this update!

Perhaps the snow ploughs can be turned into grass mowers for the summer months. Nice work, though. :)

I'm glad to see even your roads got into the spirit of "St. Patricks Day" and had some green on.   lol.

Lol all the grass..... But you made a great city !

Ya I try... The more I play this game, the more it frustrates me.

Somewhat off topic: EA is giving me a free game to help apologize for the SimCity (2013) mess. Which one should I get?

Battlefield 3
Bejeweled 3
Dead Space 3
Mass Effect 3 (I played Mass Effect, but not #2)
Medal of Honor Warfighter
Need For Speed Most Wanted (The remake? I played the one for the PS2)
Plants vs. Zombies
SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition (own it)

lol poor choice of "free game" rather have me money back but since thats never going to happen I'd get SimCity 4 Deluxe again and then send it back to them saying this what a simcity game should look like.

Haljackey,

Nice start...   Take a look at my CJ which is a "sister" city in the same region.  Basically started where you did and have grown around the bay.

Dude, are you aware that they are offering a digital copy of one of those games, and not a physical one?

I see two connections to the outside. I suppose you used that mod that allows you to modify outside roads, right?

Great work! Love the creativity with the layout and the use of the terrain.

And the grass? I'd argue SC 13 has the most hilarious bugs yet. :P

No some maps do have two connections to the outside. A central road runs in a few maps and exits.

Nope, I made this with the debugging tool. You can see me using it in the video playthrough.

Pretty sad we had to hack the game just to extract the core features that are missing.

EA/Origin said they will ban anyone who uses mods in their game... Imagine if that applied to SC4... I'd be banned thousands of times!

-For the record the debugging tool is not a mod since it is a game component developed my Maxis.

Looking great Hal.

I'd go for ME3. Its another EA-ified title but its does bring the game to a reasonable closing. Also the interactive story remains intact and important. Either that or Bejewled that is so fun.

I settled on the new need for speed most wanted. Never played one of these games on the PC (always console) so may as well try if its free

Hopefully this will keep my mind off my frustrations with SC13 as they (hopefully) continue to fix all the bugs and server issues. I don't think I want to start a new city without cheetah speed.

Looking good. The game can be frustrating at times, but its probably the most I've played a SimCity game in a few years, so its keeping me interested. As modding improves I'll be interested to see how far we can push it.

You chose Discovery Delta too. I'll be interested to see how yours ends up compared to mine, probably completely different, which will be really interesting! cant wait to see more.

Wow. I remember back then how they said that they'd be stupid to not allow modding. Mods should at least be allowed for solo-play.

If you like FPS games I think you should get Battlefield 3, it's a pretty good game
