Here is Spokane, Washington USA. I'm from Colville, which is north of Spokane, but now I am going to college in Oregon now as I have for the last 4 years.

Here are some pictures from Halifax, NS, Canada, my hometown. Halifax is a small city (360,000) but it's the business and regional hub of Canada's Maritimes provinces (approx 2,000,000 in the three) and the provincial capital of Nova Scotia. The city is built on a steep hill beside what is the world's second largest natural harbour (Sydney Australia being the biggest). The city is a busy port and home base for the Canadian navy's Atlantic fleet. Anyway, here are the pics.

Left to right, the bank towers, the city's signature highrises Purdy's Wharf and the Sheraton Casino. Purdy's Wharf is actually a really neat building. It's built half on the water and it uses tidal energy to air condition the building.

From the fortress on top of Citadel Hill down to the harbour. The Clock Tower is very much the city's landmark of note. It was built by the Duke of Kent who was obsessed with round buildings. Like Montreal and Uppsala, Halifax has height restrictions in the downtown. Any new proposed development will have almost no hope of approval if it blocks any of the remaining view planes from Citadel Hill or is taller than the Hill.

Halifax's skyline also boasts a lot of old buildings since the city dates back to 1749 and a lot of them are still standing. In fact, the urge to preserve and maintain consistent historical streetscapes has hampered the development of new skyscrappers. Not that that is such a bad thing. It would be a shame to destroy such beautiful old buildings.

The MacDonald Bridge (aka the Old Bridge) is one of two big suspension bridges that cross the harbour in the Narrows. For special events and holidays, such as Canada Day, they set fireworks off from the top of it.

I'll end this photo tour with one last night picture of the city's downtown skyline from the Darmouth marina.

Reykjavik city. Funded arund 870 ad.

Reykjavik is a small city's compared to other European and American city's but it is the largest one in Iceland, population around 114.000, if you count the entire Reykjavik area the population is 150.000 witch is quite high considering that only 300.000 people live in Iceland.

I've never been to Halifax yet! And I'm kinda sad cause those pics are really nice.

Now that I think of it, I went to Sydney, NS when I was like 8 years old. Maybe I went to Halifax on that trip but I don't remember:S

I'm guesing you must have been travelling to visit family? Cape Breton is very a big tourist destination and parts of it have the some of the most scenic sights in Nova Scotia, but Sydney itself isn't exactly a draw. Industrial Cape Breton has had a real tough slog in the last couple of decades because its industries collapsed but even in its glory days it wasn't exactly a tourist destination (as the name Industrial Cape Breton indicates). That said, the Miners Museum in Glace Bay is really excellent.

I'm biased when it comes to Halifax since it's my home but I really think it is a wonderful little city and its connected to such pretty scenery (Peggy's Cove, Lunenberg and Mahone Bay are only about an hour out). It looks like I'm moving back in August (I have been in Calgary for the past year and half) and I really can't wait. No place like home.

The city where I live isn't particular fascinating, but still I'd like to show a bit of it to you 4.gif
Binnenstad%20Nijkerk.jpg
the street you see here is the central shopping street of Nijkerk... with the big church tower in the background. Actually, you can see that tower from every road leading to Nijkerk. And that's a pretty cool view.

Tankmank: That is a pretty picture. As for the second largest harbour, well having grown up in Halifax and being taught and told that the city's harbour was second biggest, I automatically figured you were wrong. Nevertheless I went and looked around. This is what I found on wikipedia which, admittantly, is not the best source, but hey you use the tools you have.

"Located in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Halifax Harbour is considered to be the second largest harbour in the world after Sydney, Australia, although this claim is also contested by roughly a half dozen other harbours, depending upon how harbour limits are delineated."

From further digging it seems Cork Ireland, Falmouth Britain and Rio also share Halifax and Poole's claim as second biggest. So it seems that we're both right and both wrong depending how things are counted... who knew there were disputes in the way you count a harbours area?

Since this site is over run by Canadians, why not one more? Vancouver, British Columbia; the most beautiful city in Canada. Or at least people in BC think so, and probably Calgary, Edmonton, and every one else save those who reside in Toronto, Montreal, or any where in Nova Scotia. vch20035149us.jpg

Well actually, most of the buildings have to conform to strict hurricane codes. The newer buildings (which is most of them), have hurricane resistant windows, and some even have automatic shutters. And besides, a strong hurricane hasn't hit Miami's center since 1926.

I'm posting two images here, as I was born and raised in Utah, but feel so much more 'at home' here in Las Vegas

This is looking South down Las Vegas Boulevard (The Strip)

skyline003.jpg

Another of the southern half. New Years Eve i think. There arent a lot of readily available North Strip pictures that i have seen tho.

050513_VEGAS_CENTENNIAL_hmed.hmedium.jpg

And here is my actual hometown of Salt Lake

hp_gateway.jpg

(I was nervous about this one....its hard to find a good skyline pic of Salt Lake. This one does it well tho. The glass building to the right of the pointed red roof is the Wells Fargo center, the tallest in Salt Lake at the moment. (Yes, buildings can be taller than the LDS Church offices)

Well I consider Houston and Austin (Texas) both my home. I spend half the year in each.

Here is Houston with it's wonderfully large freeways. 4th largest city in the U.S. if I remember correctly.

DOWNTOWN-HOUSTON.jpghouston_skyline.jpg

And since I couldn't find any good photos of the Austin Skyline, I'll post some pics of the state capitol building I took. It's the largest state capitol building in the U.S.

This is Cape Town. I was looking through this forum and only saw mainly pictures of boring American cities that all look the same. So I thought I'd add some variety with Cape Town. I was born there and went to visit it two years ago and it's an absoloutly amazing place.

My first post!

The first picture is my original home town (where I grew up), Mount Airy, North Carolina (US).  Not much of a skyline there, but it's a great small town!

The next two pictures are my new home town (for the last 18 years), Portland, Oregon (US).

Hmm... I don't see my pictures.  Maybe I didn't do that right.

My hometown, St. Petersburg, Florida and nearby Tampa. St. Petersburg probably has one of the best downtown waterfronts in the US. There are 4 yacht basins and 5 miles of waterfront parks. There's also a great mix of older (1920's) architecture and newer developments. The city also boasts 2 of the top 10 beaches in the country.
