I'm glad dirk got rid of the side navigation bar. Modern websites are moving away from that style, and its good to see ST is keeping up with the times. And the forums load WAY quicker, like flipping pages of a book.

Just a general message to everyone: Theres no point in griping about all of the problems, threatening to leave, or whining about new features (or the loss of old ones.) I can guarantee that the admins are well aware of the issues, and they working 'round the clock to fix them. Even if some things aren't fixed to your liking, you'll get used to it.

The same thing happened when ST switched from 3.0 to 4.0... everyone whined about how ugly and unusable 4.0 was, but we all got used to it pretty quickly.

Well, it's starting to grow on me, though, some small things will still need to be changed [for example, better showing of pages on the forum index]. But yes, I'm getting used to it.

edit: I found a bug, dunno if you've noticed, but if an user with a number in his name posts, it will make his name all numbers on the forum index in the replies box. Can you fix that?

another edit: Another bug: The topics don't show in any order at all by date. How do we fix that up?

The new Simtropolis 5.0 looks awesome! If you use Internet Explorer, i mean. I don't know if it's just temporary, but the layout doesn't work properly in Mozilla Firefox. Fix it Dirk, or else...

To answer some questions:

1. You can now sort all listed topics by Topic Title, Last Post, Originator, Views. Just click the column heading to sort the topics. By default they sort by last post.

2. The forums were designed to work 100% in both IE and Firefox. I use Firefox as much as IE and currently see no problems. If you see a problem, be specific. Or else.

Wow!! This is awesome Dirk. Of course, it is completely different from 4.0, with the replies per page, the layout, the extra features etc... but people, like Cheese89 said, please please please don't threaten to leave the site or complain about the bad things... remember, this project still isn't finished. I remember when 4.0 was released and I was like but I got used to it within a week or so.

Anyway, its awesome!

Oh yes, it feels so good! Even though I really can't say that I love the new look and feel, but I guess it's just a matter of time to get at least somehow used to it. If only the other themes actually worked... It's a shame that they don't. And I think somebody already mentioned this: The topic arranging is really messy and bug-infested. For example, I did a search for the RHW topic since I didn't see it elsewhere and it showed the last post being on 02/23/06. Correct, I think. But then it isn't in the transit modding section at all! The url had 'catid=124' when I checked it. So... please do something to that problem. It's hard to enjoy anything if it doesn't work. And I really miss the ability to use HTML... I'm not threatening to leave, but I'm afraid I won't be as regular poster before the worst bugs/properties get fixed. I could make a veeeery long list of them, but I haven't contributed anything moneywise. I wish I could do that, but I can't. Whatever...

Things are running alot smoother now. I'm glad there is a stricter limit on sigs and avatars. It will help keep the site running fast, and it will make it look more professional too (I don't like alot of peoples sigs, lol).

I noticed there is a rate this user thing in the profiles. Is rating anonymous? Can we change our rating at a later date (if the user improves themself)? The help thing isn't very useful, it basicly tells me everything I already know, lol.

At first I was skeptical, because it was different, but there are lots of things I like about this new forum.

One question I have... Can we still subscribe to individual threads (such as an individual CJ) instead of ALL the CJ's? I can't seem to figure out how to do it if it's possible.

And I love the different skins you can use and I also really like the flexibility with the number of posts per page... I, for one, wouldn't mind doing away with the welcome to page #X posts... perhaps it's just a personal preferance, but when you have a limited amount of time to check out ST, it just seems like a waste of time and server space. Even if it is just a small post, think of how many topics have 25+ pages... that's 25+ posts saying just about nothing.

Ok, well, I've kinda got slightly more used to 5.0 now.

Still a few problems though:

*We really need a 30 posting-page limit on all topics, since as other people have stated, it will become hell when people welcome new pages in CJs etc.

*Get our old smilies back!! Pleeease!

*Changing the colour works, but messes up all the sidebars and everything. Would it be possible to have the base background grey instead of black? Its moch more easier on the eyes.

*Side navigation!!! I hate thats its at the top. Now I have to scroll to the top of every page to navigate where as before I only needed to scroll half way up, it looked much much more neater too. (Cheese89: ?! How is a side bar behind the times? I found it great. I have to say, that websites with navigation at the top really really put me off.)

*Sig size limit needs to be increased alot more.

*Possible to get our lovely dynamic header back? I loved it.

*Sub-forums, HAVE TO GO, please, they make navigating the site much more difficult and time consuming.

*Could we be any chance put Simtropolis Related back into Off Topic?

I like the new design, no problem with it. But the old one thou was so special, because it was unique, different from the others, and this one looks like a regular forum. Anyway, I still love it!!

there are two ways to do this.

one is through the reply window. right under the Reply to Topic button, you will see a box with Subscribe to this topic next to it. clickity click.

the other is at the very top of the topic, on the right hand side. it is in the colored area, right above the posts. you will find a box reading Topic Tools. it is a pull-down menu, which includes a quick reply, subscribing to the topic, and adding the topic to your favorites.
