Yes, yesterday was my first day working in Canada. Not much different than working in the U.S. really. However, I haven't seen yet how much tax is taken out of my paycheck.

I made another spelling mistake... darn. A fudge brownie was what I wanted in the first place. Oh well.
It's really good though! I'd also like a a platter of chicken wings, plain, and some spaghetti.

Well, well, new folks keep showing up. Welcome all.

@Shadow_Assassin: Actually, I don't think he was in Ontario. Here, there are lots of maple leaf flags, most of them appeared since 9/11. However, we don't pledge allegiance to our flag, only to the queen, and not very often. Usually only when you become a citizen, then it is as Queen of Canada (not all the rest of her titles). The new GG is over at Balmoral yesterday to kiss hands. She takes office soon. She is our second landed immigrant GG of non-white extraction. Adrienne Clarkson (the retiring GG) is part Chinese. The other times you might have to pledge allegiance to HM is if you are taking high office, like a Member of Parliament or a Cabinet Officer. We don't need to be reminded of our patriotism. Just get us in a corner and see what happens.

@Rymac91: The order appears, packaged to go. We used to have a moratorium on take-out, but I have changed the policy, especially for students. The autosystem includes both an autobar and and autochef with materializers. Orders are taken by telepathy to ensure accuracy, plated and teleported to you as required.

@zelgadis: Wait until you get your first set of tax deductions. There may be some catch up, but not likely. I expect you have already put in your TD1 form to cover your status and any dependents you want to claim. Taxes here are higher but you don't have a health premium to pay. There will be the usual first-year complications because of your U.S. Tax return and credits here and there. I don't know if you have seen non-refundable tax credits but if not, if your credits exceed what you owe, you only get back the refundable portion. Any overage of non-refundables just goes into the bit bucket. Get a income tax program. We are using Quicktax, and have been for some years.

@Bookworm: Wings platter served. Since you didn't specify how you wanted your spaghetti, it is served with grated Mizithra cheese on the side and a pitcher of melted butter on a warmer. Spaghetti Homer! Enjoy.

*eats wings and all other food* Acually, I prefer my spaghetti without cheese, but it was delicious anyway! What are zukes?
Oh, and I'll have some Mint Cocolote Chip ice cream in a large bowl for dessert, with some milk.

Bartender, are there any other things of culinary fame in Canada?? If so, I'll have some thanks. 48.gif

Had a shockingly tiring day today...Had the biannual school concert yesterday (great bw, had Mozart's Requiem and Fantasia on a Theme by T. Tallis) and cross country today. 14.gif Soooo tired...

But I guess you pay for what you get. Australia is one of the best countries in the world to live. I mean, nothing bad ever happens on an island right?? 3.gif A VERY BIG island at that.

@ephorex_77: Boy, you must be fagged by all the baroque music. What part did you play in the concert? Do you normally go for baroque? The autosystem delivers up a plate of silver dollar pancakes with first-quality maple syrup. A medium rare moose-meat steak is also served, on the side. Enjoy. Canadian specialties also include BBQ Beaver Tail, but it is now illegal since beavers are protected being they are the national animal.

@ gggg: Well, if you go read the first post on page 1 you'll know more, gospodin. Think of what you would like to eat and drink, and the autosystem will supply it. You can also open a conversation with others present. Currently, there are a lot of people in here.

@vidioman: Hey, I'm the one who is allowed to have senior moments. How you been, vid?

@Bookworm: I think the zuke will need more buttering up than that. The autosystem delivers a barrel of the best butter. If you want to know about zukes, ask Leech10, or review his earlier posts.

*The zuke begins exhaling on the butter, causing it to partially melt, then lowers his head, sticks out his tongue, and begins to lick the butter, while telekineticly sending a signal to the auto-bar to add syrup to the butter.*

I have driven for a total of 2 and 3/4 hours now, some of it in town, and the rest out in the country.

Thanks for that bartender. 48.gif I heard that Canadian pancakes were good. I'll have a light beverage; three week holidays starting tomorrow!! 39.gif

Our school is a rather traditional school (although no boaters and the like 3.gif). We have Latin, (comparatively) strict rules and a music programme like no other. Not many schools in Victoria have a traditional orchestra, much less a string orchestra (playing the T. Tallis).

Music is AMAZING!!! My only regret is not starting earlier (started halfway through Grade 7 15.gif) due to circumstances (being born in Malaysia where the closest thing one generally gets to music is singing). 15.gif

A real Canadian drink. You have to down it in one go. Victoria? I thought you were in Oz. The only Victoria city I am aware of is in British Columbia.

@Vid: You could ne nice to Celine, you know. Pluto isn't it. It is Uranus.

Those are my classes for the first third of the year.  Pre-Physics is basically without the infinitesimal math and was probably joined with Pre-Chemistry for a subject called 9th Grade Science when you were in school.  I wonder why they have to be so technical these days!46.gif

High school is only as hard as you make it. Sure, you could work your rear off, but you don't have to. People say you need good grades in high school to go to a good college. Rubbish. I was a C student at best and still was accepted into Georgetown.

@djrules5454_simtropolisedition: Aha! Euphemisms! Why not call it what it is, general science-1. Since it is a first year situation, it doesn't have to have a fancy name. I suppose it will spend a lot of time teaching the scientific method and quite a lot about measurement. It is not that they are being technical it is that the educaterers have got a hold on the curriculum. All this blather is just to hoax the yokels.

@gggg: The autosystem complies. That's an odd combination, but every one to his own poison. High school is not hard. The content is maybe a little higher in quality than previous, and hopefully you don't have to unlearn anything, but hard is what you make of it. I rarely took any work home and finished third in the school at graduation.

@zelgadis: Well, a C average wouldn't get you into many Canadian univerities these days. The cut-off is higher because of limited enrollment (funding). Overall, my average was a strong B, and I got into Queen's University in Engineering in 1957. Probably wouldn't get in today. I like your revised avatar, it is much stronger than the old one.

At my school, you are required to get two credits on a Performing Arts or just an Art class, and most colleges are looking for students fluent in a second language now.  Many schools require taking a computer course to graduate.  My school has always had one of the top music programs in Minnesota, and Minnesota is the only place in the world with a Professional Choir for adults.  Talk about wanting to stay near the top of the music world!  I am finished ranting now ...at least for a few seconds.38.gif

I don't remember doing any work at home in my first year of high school other than a project in biology where you had to classify a lot of insects, and studying for Spanish vocab quizzes. This year is about the same, only no bug project and instead there are spelling tests to study for.

Thanks. I like the new avatar too. Particularly since only a handful of people could possibly know who it is.

Still, if I can get him published, he could be more well-known and I would like that too. The trick is to find someone who can draw so that we can collaborate. I'm a pretty good storywriter, but my drawing skills stink.

In other words, I didn't draw that. Somebody more talented than me did.

Well, the more the world shrinks, eh? Victoria is the capital of B.C. and it is on Vancouver Island across the strait from Vancouver.

Whitehorse is the capital of the Yukon Yerritory in the north (next to Alaska).

It would be interesting to know if Whitehorse suburb had any relation to the Yukon.
