Hi Voltaire and all.

I'm working on some intermediate width (130'/41 m) runways that I hope will integrate nicely into your great project.  These may be available in V0.9 form over the coming weekend...

So, how's the progress for the Runway intersections going along Dedgren?

I'm close to completing all the textures today.  Here's a teaser...

assortmentteaserbd1.jpg

What I would like to do is flip the completed raw textures to someone who would assign IDs to them and then LOT them (the textures will be organized by lot, so that part should be really pretty easy).  I'd love for that to be Voltaire, but he/she seems to be MIA.  If there are any volunteers, please contact me ASAP.  You can take all the credit (please give credit to Voltaire for developing these great textures in the first place, though), post them on the STEX* under your nic, etc.  I have so many other things to do, and this project will drag on for weeks unless I can get someone to step up to the plate.

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE:  (Friday, May 25, 2007)  Still workin'!

Voltaire's RMIP packs would need to be noted as a dependency.  -DE

So with the ACE pack approaching completion, is RMIP for large runways going to be released at the same time?

Not yet... it's next on the list though. The RMIP release coming up is a taxiway pack, with pieces incorporating the 747 gate pavement.

If I were to build an airport with this RMIP pack, will I get a commercial boost as well like with the normal airports?

Release planned for tomorrow, RMIP-2 Small Airport Edition Vol. 4. The main attraction is compatibilty with the new pavement style I've put on Ace_bovenopdeberg's 747 passenger gates.

    747editionju9.jpg

    - The six lots in the lower left of this formation are additions to Volume 3 which were never released. They provide a continuous centerline for a diagonal taxiway crossing an orthogonal. The new ortho-diagonal set includes these markings as well.

    - Placement helpers are here! Now you can build terminals faster and better than ever before, with no guess work about which direction the Lot is supposed to face.

    helperdemo1ft1.th.jpghelperdemo3pr1.th.jpghelperdemo2wb0.th.jpg

    - New designators are included, for RMIP-2 asphalt runways (previously released but not on the stex) to provide variety in your runway names. The helper for each one is simply an "R" facing the same direction as the numbers.

    - Thanks to updated modding techniques, multiple instances of each Lot are combined into one line on the budget panel. The same modd allows you to permanently rename each lot if you so desire.

As always, each lot is game-engine neutral except for slight landmark effect, and maintenance costs. By the way... you can make up a lot of those costs with Ace's 747 gates... along with the terminals, they should go a long ways toward balancing your budget. Unless of course, you build 6 runways, 30 taxiways, and a 10-gate terminal 20.gif

@Shukie: These lots have a small landmark effect which only gives a slight boost to local commecial demand. It has to be that way -- because I have no way to know if someone will use these to make a 100-piece landing strip, or a 3000-piece mega-airport. If each Lot were powerful enough to really affect demand, and someone built a ton of them, it would wreck the simulation parameters across the whole region.

@ShadeSlayer: yeah, "a while" covers it pretty well... honestly I don't know when I'll get to it because SNM and Ace's 737 will compete for my attention too.

Yay! Now I don't have to do trial and error or guess what the lot is supposed to do. Thanks!

    lol... (cough) (cough)

Although I did post this already in Ace's thread, my 5-tile runway set is nearly done... All I have to complete now are the diagonal taxiway exits and the transitions between standard RMIP runways, my runways, and the still-in-beta 3RR runways well as some fixes to the current lots. I think that the amount of lights on the lots, however, might be excessive... I will have to look into that and paste some pictures of them later so you can help me with the issue. I am also planning an RRET for this set, but my very poor skills on texturing may prevent that from happening at the moment. (I used MS Paint for the majority of the texture editing and making!)

Haven't posted in a long time, but I must say, why did you have to release this when I was on my vacation to Salt Lake City? >43.gif. Anyway, when I went on the plane, at least I knew what all the markings at the airport meant.

Oh, and Voltaire, you probably know that the Network-Addon Modd (NAM) changed a U-Drive-It train. They changed a Steam Train to a Elevated Rail (Edit). I don't know how they did that, and you probably don't know either, but do you think you could change one of the planes in U-Drive-It to a small jet?

I've downloaded trains on the STEX before that actually added themselves in without changing another one. They were the BNSF engines and it added 5 new trains into the list without going over-top another. So I believe one could make flyable planes without overwriting the other types.

We probably could but what is the reason that still no passenger UDI planes exist? (I've never been able to find that UDI 767 that was posted about a few times in ST.)

Also back on that wide-runway thing: I'd say 4 tiles is probably best. Melbourne and Sydney's runways are between 3.5 and 4.5 tiles wide.

I would personally vote 3-tile wide as each tile is approximately 52 feet. The current two tile runways are 80 feet wide because of the shoulder markings which aren't on a lot of runways. If cut out on the 3 tile wide ones, you could have a 150 foot wide runway which is the norm for nearly all major airport runways at least in the US. LAX has three 150 foot wide runways and one 200 foot wide one. Seattle has two 150 foot runways. O'Hare has five 150 foot wide runways and one 200 foot wide one. JFK has three 150 foot wide runways and one 200. La Guardia has two 150 foot wide ones. Boston's got four 150 foot wides runways and two 100 foot. The 4-tile runways could always come later, but for airports with 747 and 767 operations, 150 foot wide runways are the rank and file.

I disagree with you saying that shoulder markings aren't on a lot of runways.

Every airport I've checked on GE, that has runways (not including shoulders) of at least 2.5 tiles wide, has shoulders. Only airports servicing tiny cities/towns don't have shoulders (from what I've seen). The 150-feet wide runways of JFK are 6 tiles (I measured 92m) wide if you include the shoulders!

I was including the shoulders when I said '3.5 to 4.5' tiles, by the way. If I hadn't, yes they would have been about 150 feet wide. But definately: shoulders must be included...

...of course this is Voltaire's work, not ours.:$
