I ask can I modify your DC-7s?  I am thiking of making a United Airlines plane (to be more American and time-friendly), and maybe a fictional airline such as Nivramel Airways.

If you were to put the Pan Am and the KLM Skin together, would there be both of the planes in SC4 with random skins, or would the skins not change at all?

Thanks GMT! More on the way, as I find time here and there in my schedule.

GoldenKevin, this is one of the longest-standing issues with Maxis automata: because of the way the game was progammed we cannot make different skins appear at once. If you put more than one file in your plugins, the game will show the one that loaded last, and ignore the others.

daryl you're going to have to wait until I'm finished with it... I'll let you know. Until then, try and complete one of your own projects. Such as that wooden hangar, it looked like a decent piece of work, why didn't you complete it?

    Hmm this hangar?

Unfortunately this one's file became corrupt though.

    Or this hangar?

    smallhangarpreview01rp6.th.jpg

Well needless to say I've never worked on any wooden hangars in the past.

I hate to nagg and ask because I know you are working hard on this stuff but may I ask if the widerunway pack is going to be more than 3 months away? I'm asking because I'm itching to get started on my airport with your great packs but I also want wide runways 3.gif

    Thanks in advance.

Yoman, we know how wide Voltaire is planning at having the wide runways, 5 tiles, so just save that space for the wide runway(s) when you build your airport!

If you could, could you make non-skid marks for the center of a runway? I've noticed that almost all airports have no skid marks at the middle of the runway. Probably because planes don't land in the middle of the runway? I don't know, but could you still make a new transition lot?

Wow, check out the size of this thing. Google Maps Link. I hope that's not a displaced threshold. I think it's just a taxiway extension, but that is looooooooooooooooooooooooooooonggggggggggggggg...  Check out the other side on the runway too, that's also very long, probably for noise restrictions, but it's even longer than the displaced threshold at San Diego Lindbergh Field and that airport has lots of noise restrictions and lots of tall objects to clear.

the longest runway in existence i believe is the secret "AREA 51" north runway, which some say is up to 13 miles long! now THAT is a runway for me and my "secret" plane eh.

if u use google earth and do a search for "AREA 51" u will see what i am talking about. its huge to say the least.

I got something like 4.57 miles. But there was a weird error where the ruler line had a bump in it. I tried to check it out, but then my computer crashed. There were also some makings right next to the long runway that I couldn't identify in what I thought was a lake.

EDIT: I went back, and took these pictures. I think the makings are runways, because the numbers match the angles.

The line is straight when I measure it:

    51stte7.th.jpg

But when viewed from an angle:

    51bumpyn8.th.jpg

    A better perspective:

    bumpsf5.th.jpg

    A shot of the markings:

    markingsir5.th.jpg

And even if it isn't as long as dadyrghluv said it was, it still is really big.

What surprised me about the Runways is that it's really more like multiple runways in one strip than only one runway. Like 4 of them in one strip. I measured about 4.5 miles across all of them.  I got the same bump problem like you, at the north end, it made a curve.

Though they have a huge to say the least desert to overun into, though im guessing 4 miles is by far enough for any aeroplane yet built to land on

I believe the threshold at JFK (referring to Goldkevin's post)is initially displaced to keep it from being too close to the water.  then the threshold would have been too close to the crossing runway so they displaced it furthur.  Just a guess maybe someone can give us a definitive answer.

OMG THE A380 LANDED IN VANCOUVER TODAY29.gif AND I TOTALLY MISSED IT!!!32.gif  NOOOO!!!

    Well many reasons for that:

The snow--hard to drive all the way to the airport and back

Work--I had to go to work this morning

Hockey--Went to the game last night and was totally tired from it.

And if I could see it in the pattern for one of the 26 runways from home it would've been a blast.  But it landed on one of the 8 runways!  Why:

Wind--Winds were NE today and it came in from Georgia Strait.

Altitude: Better to approach it from the sea than from land due to the mountains and strong headwinds.

I saw it on TV though.29.gif

I would guess that those big displaced areas are due to noise restrictions, as there are residential streets immediately behind both ends of the runway. It's not the water, there are other runway thresholds at JFK and LGA which are almost on the shoreline.

goldenkevin the tire skids will be reversible, just like in RMIP 1 -- since the centerline dashes are centered within the transition piece, it can be rotated to face either direction. Yoman I estimate that these runway lots will take a month, maybe two depending on how I split my time between the 5 projects I have going on right now.

Delta "Gold Crown" DC-7, now live on the STEX... get it here. IMO the sharpest-looking of all the DC-7s yet.

The DC-7 looks great. It's nice to see more historic planes in the game.

How do you tell when your airport has reached capacity???

Also, is it possible for the planes to taxi from there gate to the runway. Just a suggestion.

Voltaire, is it possible that you could create more runway designators such as 10, 19, 28, and 1? Occasionally, I run into the problem of having more than three parallel runways. Since this is the official way to solve this problem in real life, can you make these designators in RMIP too?

I agree with you golden kevin. Its easy to do this with the old large runways but with the small airport runways its a little more difficult. Would it be possible for you to do this Voltaire

Done! The download link is in the first post of this thread.

    desigextrasqn1.jpg

A little pack of extra designators, for compass points lower & higher than the standard four directions... for those with big airports, this'll let you make up to nine parallel runways. I'm interested to see pics of airports large enough to need these.

Thanks Yoman and Hanson. Look for the final 3 DC-7 liveries coming soon!

Littleapple the maxis airports have query boxes which show capacity & usage... you'll get messages from your transport advisor when it's time to upgrade. Also you'll see near-capacity airports looking dilapidated. The plane animations would be cool but it's not possible for many technical reasons, mainly because we would have no way to make the planes follow the taxiway layout of different airports.

    hey all,

Very basic and stupid question, but if i create runways to the proper guidelines (ie those american/canadian ones listed in the volume 1 readme) will animations work on them? also, is it ok to combine the custom taxiways and airstrips with pre-fab terminals? (ie curved arm, wing-shaped etc) Finally, do you have to have approach lighting/aiming points/designators etc at each end of the runway for it to function? Thanks heaps.

PS although you are re-assured of it ALOT voltaire, these lots truly are amazing, thankyou!

There are a few special runway pieces that add takeoff/landing animations for different types of aircraft.

Yeah thanks for that Voltaire. And so quick too! I'll be sure to post some pictures of my airports when I begin construction. Right now I'm working on a new region but like Ace and xiziz im at college so time is short but we'll get there!

Do you think we could get a Menu Management Lot for Volume three? The existing lots don't appear to work for the new release.
